It certainly goes hand in hand with MGSV, and imo is this game's ''Main Theme'' for me. |

Some interesting points of view you guys have, also am I the only one disappointed that we never got to play as the later Venom, you know, the one with the hair to the back you see in some concept art, and the one Gatsu uses in his pic, we saw him a bunch so I figured we may at least unlock a head skin/wear to look like that, or be able to unlock a head skin/wear that makes Venom use his scarf (for once lol) and his goggles, all in all I wanted to see a lot of head skins/wears but we didn't get anything :L This pic shows the exact three skins I wanted to see

Also in case no one has noticed. Next time you're in ACC, have a gander at the window to Venom's right.

I just kept looking at it for a couple of minutes and nothing seems to happen, other than the whole rain and stuff, if that's what you meant. Edit : Bahaha what a stupid typo. Edited by iExPreZz, Sep 9 2015, 07:56 PM.

It would have been nice to use some goggles etc :)...but I'm ready to accept that can't get everything ;(. Also found this, it's good read especially if didn't understand the ending :)... "Metal Gear Solid has always been something of a meta-narrative first and a literal narrative second. That’s why it’s not really important when things make no sense or plotlines go unresolved – each game’s own identity as a game takes center stage, and we’re willing to suspend as much disbelief as necessary to allow that to happen. And the series has always been very interested in its own status as a game. It’s most prominent in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, where Raiden becomes a proxy character for the player: young, inexperienced, trained off of VR and existing in the shadow of Solid Snake. Everything falls apart just as it looks like you’re nearing some kind of traditional success, and a series of weird meta-screens and absurd situations more or less shatter any notion that we know what’s going on. Raiden is at the whim of the designer." "The true ending of Metal Gear Solid 5 takes it one step further. We don’t need Raiden anymore, because we’re doing that job ourselves. From that perspective, it makes sense why this new game focuses so much more on gameplay and less on half hour long cutscenes: the real story is about the player becoming Big Boss. That’s the medic, and that’s why the tape playing at the end addresses the character as “you.” Kojiima is usually pretty brazen about the way he breaks the fourth wall – e.g., Psycho Mantis – but there’s some uncharacteristic restraint going on here. His farewell video showed a remarkable tenderness in his relationship with the players, and that shines through here. The player is the center of the story in a fictional, meta, and actual sense." "It’s what makes the true ending actually satisfying, in a classically Metal Gear sort of way. It’s not ending the actual plot – lord knows how anyone would actually go about doing that – it’s ending the game, and the series as well. You’ve made it through every mission, you’ve backtracked, perfected, gotten your S ratings and employed perfect stealth. That’s it, you’re Big Boss, you’re Snake, You’re “you.” And you’re done." What have I missed !?I'm gonna try that later when I play thx :), a little busy currently. Edited by Gatsu, Sep 9 2015, 07:59 PM.

Yaaa! Huge comments, lol. For me a story has to have a basis that is consistent and logical before I can take it seriously and meaningfully. In Kojima "setting up the scene" he broke all sorts of things and thus detached me from the characters and the story when I was suppose to care the most, my first response is "This is stupid and should not have happened anyway". To get to my heart you must first get through my brain, if it doesn't make sense I won't care or get involved with it. It is poorly written BECAUSE of how it uses stupid and convenient plot devices to set up the scene, good writing would be setting up the scene while still making sense and not being random. And here is an interesting food for thought. Random makes up a huge part of our lives people live and die randomly, it is life, but to do ANYTHING randomly in a story is incredibly bad writing. Writing is a tool used to deliver specific messages, themes, and emotions, it is not meant to perfectly portray life, because to perfectly portray life would be bad writing. For example a story has a beginning middle and end, a build up and conclusion, foreshadowing, etc, where as real life isn't built like that, you could be in the middle of changing the world and die randomly by slipping on the road. Random is bad writing, if something isn't properly foreshadowed, and or explained in universe it leaves the viewer cheated and lost, why did they sit through all of that to have a conclusion that has nothing to do with the rest of the story and is random end? (not speaking of Quiet here, lol) |

I mostly agree with you here, but I disagree with what you consider random in this cutscene. I believe that if you spent time to deconstruct books, games or movies you love and consider good writing you'd see that there are much more unlikely happenings like the ones you've pointed out in this cutscene. Now there is a huge difference in how you treat them depending on how strong your suspension of disbelief is - the more you're into something the more you're forgiving so maybe those things stick out to you like a sore thumb because something earlier (or something at the beginning) broke that suspension and you now notice, and are disturbed, by more elements. My only two real problems are - why did she get caught and why did they just not sneak their way away from the army. Quiet can jump over the hills and Boss can get away unnoticed without a problem. The latter is not so much of an issue though, as this is story lending itself for gameplay which is done every time and everywhere. Nevertheless neither of those was even close to being enough to make me cringe - I am a very willing suspender :). I sympathize with your feelings and understand your stance. It's a shame you weren't able to enjoy it as much as I did. Heck, I just remembered I have a friend who destroyed his ability to read books after finishing philology studies because he now notices all of the devices used in writing and he things everything is crap. He is simply unable to suspend his disbelief for even a shorter moment. In other news I finally managed to defeat Extreme Sahelanthropus and it was insane. The chopper overriding my supply drops didn't help. Edited by Maurycy, Sep 9 2015, 10:00 PM.

There is a LOT in the song and how it connects. The song itself is often thought of as one man speaking to another image of himself which was sold to the world. A lot of people make it as David Bowie talking to his inner Ziggy Stardust, a stage personality he created. The song echoes duality of a single individual, such with the lines as "I never lost control" and then "We never lost control" showing that both people are in fact one person The name and lyrics of the song also fit with Big Boss and Venom. Big Boss being the man who sold the world, he sold the world that Venom was really him and that he does not exist, he sold his lie and his phantom to the world, he sold the world of the idea that Venom was the real Big Boss. In the song Big Boss is the man who sold the world, and Venom is the other person in that person So yeah, there is a lot of connections and dualities between the song and Big Boss/Venom. |

I am deeply disappointed. You can't destroy or even damage or even slow down Sahelanthropus in Hellbound mission :/

Really enjoyed the game, ending and all. However, I am slightly disappointed about the cut content and the fact I lost SOMEONE I won't be getting back. That being said, I'm pretty sure it's one of my favorite Metal Gear experiences to date. Probably up there with 3. The gameplay was phenomenal and I still have some stuff to unlock. Spoiler: click to toggle FOB is fun but kind of annoying at the same time. I might be turning it to offline only until MGO comes out. I'm pretty excited for MGO but I'm not that great at shooters in a competitive way, so we'll see how that goes. If the online free roam mode still has enemy AI scattered about that'd be awesome but I'm not expecting it whatsoever. Also, it still makes me laugh how much Kojima and the majority of fanboys still discredit Portable Ops for having such a big influence on the series. From the recruiting soldiers, side ops, building military divisions, to subtle story things like... Spoiler: click to toggle It genuinely makes me laugh. But seriously, The Phantom Pain went hard af. |
