I like to go back to this line, and think of it as a dead ringer, for anyone who HADN'T figured out the twist yet, as to who Venom isn't. (Dem ashes) |

Nice, Scotia. That's a good point.WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I did want more Skullface, but he definitely left his mark. Almost had the ability to have complete control of nukes all over the world, not too mention getting rid of the english language. Also, I did like the jeep ride, up until the point where Sins of The father came on. I also just wanted to grab Venom and just scream "WILL YOU FUCKING SAY SOMETHING TO SKULLFACE, YOURE ALLOWED TO HAVE AN OPINION BECAUSE WHAT THIS DUDE IS DESCRIBING WILL FUCK UP THIS ENTIRE WORLD LOL" I believe that jeep scene would've been MUCH better had it been a one-shot cutscene like the rest of the game. Might I add, the cutscenes are done so fucking well. But having control of the camera felt awkward. I did love SF's monologue during the whole thing, it blew my mind that Venom didn't say a word. But when the song came on and nobody was talking. That was strange. Could've been a lot better. Edited by SolidLiquid, Sep 11 2015, 10:53 PM.

bumping this One of the reasons I came up with why he did it, fits with one of themes with the game and the series. "Words" "Language" are a big part of MGSV. Words can kill, words to control the subconscious. I believe it's relevant to the ending because for 28 years, BB is known as the villain. We were told so many bad things about him, through words and information. In MGS4, EVA does state that Big Boss's identity as a bad man was exaggerated with lies. We've constantly been told that we will play as Big Boss, see him break bad. We listened to those words and believed it. Similar to how Venom is constantly told he's BB and believes it. My next point is what The Boss mentions in MGS3, that one of the biggest enemies is the "times". Over time, today's enemy can be tomorrow ally. Throughout the entirety of this series, we know Big Boss as the greatest soldier of the 20th century turning into the biggest villain in MGS and affects each title in the series when he's not even in these games. His legend, his meme, his corpse is so damn important. So in a sense, when this ending is revealed to us that Venom isn't Big Boss, but a phantom created in his image. It ruins our perception of Big Boss. It completely alters the perception of good and evil. Words and the "times" created our perception of Big Boss and this ending shows us that we can't believe everything we are told. Similar to MGS2. That's how Cipher (Patriots) controls the world. Through words and information flow. Kojima controlled our perception of Big Boss through a similar process. Also for NP4H "because honestly I know the ending of TPP will be taken to each corner of the known universe and back, you can interpret it in a million ways. If Kojima has some plan, what is it?" Your quote right there says it all for me. You already know my stance on it, as we've previously discussed. I just love the impact that it has on the community and betraying expectations. This kind of ending, whether you perceive it as good or bad, will be talked about for some time. We might never know why he did this, and maybe that's how he wants it to be. He knows the fans will try to decipher it in a million ways and talk about it for years trying to understand, and never figure it out. Which is the prime example of leaving things to interpretation. I actually had a couple of people watching me while I was watching that jeep cutscene, and the SotF started playing, and one of them was like "well that's random" and I wanted to defend it, lol, but what I said was "The lyrics aren't, its placement is". Yeah I loved the ride with Skull Face until the song started playing it made the whole thing seem weird, why the pause? why nothing from Medic Boss? EDIT: Glad I was able to sum it up in one sentence Solid, lol, Kojima likes that kind of thing too much haha. Edited by No Place For Hayter, Sep 11 2015, 11:04 PM.

Yeah, it's like someone said 'just throw the song in there until they arrive' About the plot, I was invested until it became all parasites, son. Those code talker tapes... jesus. I did enjoy the real ending with BB just being a dick lol |

Do you mean that, Big Boss does not have personal feelings for his comrades and thus couldn't be Venom because Venom has personal feelings for his comrades? |

I didn't have a problem with all the parasites. If something like that were to be true, it would be pretty catastrophic. It would spread like fucking crazy. Now there is a bit about the parasites that I didn't like. I can't remember exactly which "Code Talker and his research" tape it was but he talked about the origin of it and it got to be pretty fucking farfetched haha |

Wasn't the origin basically "I've found a man who already had this and extrapolated from here"? It's weird but not that uncommon. Virtually ALL of the parasites and viruses that exist just appeared spontaneously somewhere

I mean that Big Boss would remember this, and carry it out because he knows The Joy is truthful in her words. He let his feelings get to him once, with her, he saw what it causes. Venom just has emotional ties to everyone, and it's foolish. It is a clear giveaway that he isn't Big Boss. |

Spot on. Venom's emotional tie to Quiet is a dead giveaway (Big Boss learned from both The Boss and EVA, that having personal feelings ultimately is the worst possible thing he could've done). No, not that part, I'm referring to how he started to talk about how the parasite gave humans language. When we learned to walk upright, that wasn't the final step. Then so on and so on. I need to go back and listen to it again, it got pretty complex. Edited by SolidLiquid, Sep 11 2015, 11:34 PM.

Actually I am pretty sure we can say that he let his feelings for Paz get to him too. Not romantic feelings obviously, but rather one of guardian/parent figure. And he was backstabbed again. Now that I think about, he trusted Eva and she just ran away (semi-backstab). He trusted Kaz and he worked with Cipher behind the scenes, another backstab. Man, that guy has more holes in the back than a fresh swiss cheese :). Ah, that thing. That was... I think I just instinctively removed it from my brain. The cassette is "Code Talker and His Reasearch [4]" -> "The Parasites Gave Us Language". I am relistening it now... Edited by Maurycy, Sep 11 2015, 11:34 PM.

Which proves what Scotia said. At this point, Big Boss has learned this by now. Venom has not. He might have Big Boss's memories, but not the emotional impact that came with them. This is why he's so emotionally tied with everyone. The way he tries to interact with Eli also points out that he's not Big Boss, he tries to reach out to him several times. Big Boss wouldn't be having any of that bullshit. This goes back to the Paz scenes as well. Venom is holding onto his memory of Paz. He's so emotionally tied to her that his subconscious is blinding him of the memory that he didn't save her. The 2nd bomb was never found. She is his form of PTSD. He can't accept that she is dead because of him. When it's revealed that she was never there and you come to terms that 2nd bomb was never found and she died, it hit me hard. We accepted that false memory of finding the second bomb just as easy as Venom did to shield the guilt. Anyway, I'm rambling again. There are just so many hints that you're not playing as Big Boss throughout the game. |

Alright, got through that tape. Now I am not a specialist in everything, but I think a vast majority of the MGSV science is mostly scientifically sound, especially for a science fiction. But that one part is just bollocks through and through. It's pretty amusing though :). I wouldn't mind if someone smarter than me did a decomposition and analysis of all things claimed there. |

Yeah that jeep ride was something that bothered me quite a lot, even though I was okey with silent Big Boss. I just wanted him to SAY SOMETHING to Skull Face :D, but no he just kept turning his head and watching the scenery lol. Epic Skull Face moment :). Edited by Gatsu, Sep 11 2015, 11:47 PM.

Haha why? I didn't mind it, I found that revelation to be beautiful actually. She's an embodiment of his PTSD. Which I thought plays a good representation to many real-life PTSD situations. I remember my uncle, who has PTSD, describing that he can see some of his friends that died in Vietnam in other peoples faces. The way he describes it sounds so haunting. So these Paz sequences make a lot of sense to me. Gatsu, that video just made me laugh so hard. That "Who are you" reference couldn't of been any better. Edited by SolidLiquid, Sep 11 2015, 11:48 PM.
