Crying Wolf is definitely the best boss in the game though
I disagree 100%.

Liquid-Ocelot fight may be clunky, but it's my favorite boss fight in the game. Maybe not for the gameplay, but for other reasons.

Crying Wolf was my favorite too, with Octopus being a close-ish second.

Rex vs Ray was dull, I got over the fangasm rather quickly once the battle started.

Yeah agreed.
There was kinda nothing to the REX vs RAY fight, it was pretty dumb and just seemd like fan service.

And yeah the Octopus battle was awesome like OH SHIT SHE IS INVISABLE GOTTA USE MA GOGGLES TO FIND HER OOOHHH SHIT I FOUND HER!!!

The thing that's awesome about crying wolf though, is that they really craft the perfect balance between an interesting boss battle for a new system and game, while making it seem old school and giving it call backs to sniper wolf.

It's pretty amazing and for sure one of the best boss battles in the whole game.

ehhh, better than Raging Raven and the others at least

But yeah some people overhype the Rex Vs Ray thing a little too much, wasn't anywhere near the awesome of Rex, Ray and even the Shagohod

I liked it because it's the first time you actually got to control a Metal Gear, and the most awesome version at that.

The homage it makes to the Sniper Wolf battle is a really nice added bonus. I played through MGS1 numerous times, but even more often I loaded my save to the part where I had just defeated Hind D and played till Wolf's cutscenes ended. Rinse and repeat. Having grown to sympathize her for what she tells us after the battle and knowing all that I had to kill her again had a real impact on me. It remains my favorite emotional scene from any game.

Actually, it's even better now, because we've been closely exposed to Big Boss since then. Back then "Saladin" was just a name and an illustration on the manual to me, now he's my favorite video game character. I'm really excited for the possibility we might get to see child-Wolf in MGSV.

I liked it more because it was the best boss fight in the entire game, matched only by the Liquid fight at the end. Boss battles are generally a few gameplay mechanics tied together with some stupid story conceit to make it make sense and be meaningful. Those two instead where total fan service and instead of relying on dumb/boring mechanics to beat them; like having a shitty sniper fight in snow that's too thick and with random Frogs everywhere only making it more painful, or having to constantally use goggles in order to find your static boss.. they instead simply rely on you having fun and enjoying the moment, rather than the actual mechanics of the fight.

That's why those two are my favorite. The other boss battles in MGS4 are for the most part re-hashes of other older MGS boss fights and just aren't as good SUP VAMP YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT.

It is too bad that they spoiled all that, including the return of Shadow Moses as well, it would've been fucking amazing to discover that when playing the game yourself

Hopefully they hold back a little more with MGS5 cause it's gonna be fucking impossible not to watch trailers for it and not browse forums n shit

I watched everything they threw at ya before MGS4 released, but afterwards I left GT's Metal Gear section and in general avoided anything that mentioned its name. MGS4 I pre-ordered and everything, but for certain reasons I had to postpone getting my PS3, so I didn't get to play MGS4 till June 2009. I was successful in avoiding most all spoilers for the game, but I don't want to go through that again with MGSV. It'll be a Day 1 purchase.

I decided to stop following forums about a month or so before MGS4 came out and stopped watching any video's other than the first couple of launch trailer things they did and I had it pre-ordered.

Nothing got spoiled.

I got spoiled on the Big Boss return, I can't remember how but it definitely was not intentional, it was just blatantly posted somewhere with an image of the guy

Huge bummer

I feel bad for you, when the name rolled in the credits I was all like waaah?

Some great points in that review but the ones that bother me the most are the lack of character of the B&B and the rehash of old bosses

Johnny going cannon was dumb

The concept of playing as an old snake was great, even if some people seemed to worried with the lack of a stereotyped six-pack hero

I had a blast playing the game for the first time but when you go all csi with the game it really shows its flaws

I'm glad I wasn't spoiled on the Big Boss thing. I will probably stay away from forums around the MGSV release, but hopefully I will be able to keep visiting this forum.
