I have faith in Platinum making it a very good action game but I'm doubtful if it won't completely destroy Raiden's character.

Yeah, same for me, but it's just a spin-off, so I don't mind that much.

Kojima Productions just did a motion capture session with wires.

That cyborg with a moustache sure looks... inspired by Vamp.

Also, lifting a Ray like Raiden does is too silly. I'm sorry, it is.

Somewhat looking forward to the game. Not nearly as much as I used to, but still somewhat.

I'm in the same boat. I was one of my most anticipated games of 2012 before the re-reveal, now it's still on my list but much lower. And I agree, not only lifting the RAY, but tossing it high in the air was completely over the top, even for Metal Gear standards.

Up there with the Stinger-jump.

Yeah. But also his character seems out of place in comparison to the other MGS games, and MGS4's ending. KP said there was a reason for this, but still.

I don't think anything good can come from fans of the series playing this one, I really don't.

Aye, me too. I look forward to playing it.

As for Raiden's character, not sure, but I'd be inclined to agree to an extent. The game takes place AFTER Guns of the Patriots, right? if so: on one hand you have a really loose, free-spirited Raiden who's really embraced his role as a soldier in the world - much like Snake. On the other hand it does rescind what we were lead to believe from MGS4's epilogue, that Raiden, himself, would change his ways/basically call it a day. It would just go to show that he couldn't fight his nature, and that his past still haunts him. As to whether Rose and John have accepted this and are a part of his life, yet to be seen. Rising does complicate the integrity of the MGS universe, but if it's officially a spin-off and non-canon, then I can't see why anyone would be up in arms over it. Take it for what it is and try to enjoy it, I guess.

About him throwing a Ray around like a rag doll, well yeah, a bit silly, but then again he did...somehow...stop Outer Haven in it's pace.

Fans should just play it as an action game with a Metal Gear theme, rather than an installment in the saga. That's what I will do.

@ Matieo10: Stopping Outer Haven was still different. It was shown that it cost Raiden great effort to slow the ship down for just a few seconds, and he almost lost his life in the progress. The ship was also ploughing through concrete at the same time. But in Rising, he's tossing RAY into the air like it's a piece of paper.

You didn't like PW, so your opinion is invalid

I have no opinion on Peace Walker's story, all I've said is I don't like how PW is set up, which is a very valid argument imo, considering it doesn't play very similarly to the titles I've come to love, but whatever.

This clearly is a piece of shit though, I mean you don't have to be a PW fan to judge it. I mean I'm sure it can be played if you just completely ignore everything that happens in the game and play it for the gameplay, but then you have to ask yourself why you're playing it instead of an actual hack n' slash game, this game looks like it'll just piss off fans of MGS because it'll be nothing like it, just a dumbed down piece of shit

Perhaps. His potential strength was still measured during that moment. How big was Outer Haven? now how big is a Ray, and more importantly how much does THAT Ray weigh compared to the former, and what kind of capabilities does it have? we don't know if what aided Raiden's throw was, for example, some kind of advanced 'hovering' technology Ray could have been outfitted with - we already know it's a very agile bi-pedal tank.

I know, I know, total longshot and purely speculation haha

Oh, and as for the new "Vamp" type character, I see it, but I don't see it - meaning he doesn't remind me of Vamp all that much TBH. I do like his look.

Yeah, there could be an explanation for Raiden's strength. I think it will be something like a 'devil trigger', when Raiden goes into 'Jack the Ripper-mode', with red glowing eyes.

Hopefully it's nowhere near as QTE heavy as Asura's Wrath in that case.

Knowing Platinum Games it won't be. Maybe there are some QTE super moves, but the combat itself looks similar to something like Ninja Gaiden.

PW plays like an evolution of MGS4, which plays like an evolution of MGS3 which plays like etc etc... its called progress, I imagine there are people out there who LOVED the MG games but fucking hate the Solid titles because 'the gameplay is just bad and generic blah blah'. Kojima can't keep making MGS2 over and over...

MG:R is a totally diffrent game, its not an MGS game, its not even going to be a stealth game, its just a diffrent take on the MGS world, why is that a bad thing and why does that automatically make it shit? MGA isn't total shit, tis just diffrent.
And how is it dumbed down? You've not even played it, and if you've played Bayonetta or Vanquish you'll know that the games they make have fairly deep and complex combat in them (especially Bayonetta) that is anything but dumbed down.

If its anything like Bayonetta the QTE's will actually be pretty minimal and fairly well done

I don't think you've realized what I mean when I say I don't like the way it plays.

I hardly think a mission based campaign is an evolution for the series, if anything it's it's the complete opposite. You're coming back to MGS2 again, I'm not saying I need another game to play like MGS2, what I want in an MGS game is a good setting, Shadow Moses, Tanker, Plant, MGS3's jungle. These were great settings, you weren't just running in a straight line through the game, you spent time in these bases and that's something I like in these games, they had great settings, you were put in them to infiltrate and do your sneaky shit and I KNOW PW is set in ONE location, but it's still based on missions, structured around that, back and forth between a mission, how the fuck is that an evolution for the series?

That's because it's a handheld game, I don't think they will do the short mission structure for the next console MGS title.

I definitely understand that, it fits the PSP and all, I can understand that even if I don't fancy it all that much, but he said it's an evolution for the series, which it hardly is.
