ok guys. whats your thoughts on this? to me this is probably one of the worst mgs games i have played i mean its not terrible but it was just out of all of the entries this is my least favorite. the missions felt lazy and unoriginal and just meh. the story is mgs1 but with big boss and FOX instead of FOXHOUND and it tried really hard to please fans. to me they cheapened snake eater by saying it SPOILER: operation snake eater was a set up. idk to me that just killed it for me.

Gameplay-wise it could've done better, but I think the plot was mostly fine(I do agree some revelations about Snake Eater were lame). I really liked the characters, especially Gene and young Campbell.

It's the worst of the canon-solid series, but still not a bad game imo.

I liked it. The story was pretty good (though not up to par with the other MGS games), and so where the characters, especially Gene. The gameplay was fine as well, and it introduced the basic structure that was expanded for Peace Walker.

They should un-canonize it? Saying that snake eater was a set up was a stupid idea. Like when i thought they said shadow moses was a set up in mgs2 (They didn't, i mis-heard). That just ruins everything. How can i go back to replay MGS3 after that. But in my mind Portable Ops never happened.

And bringing Sokolov back, i mean come on.

I agree they didn't need to bring Sokolov back. But in all fairness, MGS3 was always a set-up. Portable Ops only added some to that.

i wouldnt go that far to un-canonize it but i wouldnt consider it a true mgs game. like i feel like you can skip portable ops and not miss anything.

It's canon, but the events on PO aren't that important to the overall storyline. One of the things that was revealed there for the first time though, was the fact that Zero, Big Boss and Ocelot founded The Patriots.

Something that major heh? Does it play similar to Peace Walker? I might just emulate it. I have to stay away from Plus though right? A friend of mine absolutely hated it.

It's my least favorable entry to the series. I still enjoyed the game. The gameplay was pretty average, nothing spectacular as compared to Peace Walker (Peace Walker has my favorite gameplay outside of MGS2). The story was pretty good though, not up-to-par with MGS standards, but good nonetheless.

The quality of Portable Ops compared to Peace Walker isn't even close. Kojima didn't have much involvement with PO other than it's story. Peace Walker, Kojima was involved in it 100%.

The characters were good, like Young Campbell, seeing Frank Jaeger when he was really young, and Gene was an awesome character.

But, the story is pretty important to the timeline, like the revealing of the Patriot founding members.

It doesn't play similar to Peace Walker, other than the fact that it's a PSP game. (I know that PW is now on the HD collection, it's besides the point). The controls in PO are much clunkier and harder to adapt to, as opposed to PW.

In basic structure it is comparable to Peace Walker, with recruiting soldiers and building the base and such. But if you played PW first, it's a big downgrade, so be warned. :P

From what I know, Plus doesn't include the story mode, so in other words, it's worthless.

Yeah, you pretty much shot yourself in the leg for playing Peace Walker before Portable Ops. I do still encourage you to endure it for the story and characters, they're pretty good. Besides the aforementioned brainfarts.

What are the biggest differences between Portable Ops and Portable Ops Plus? the latter is mostly multiplayer and doesn't include the campaign, right?

Yeah, and it has some extra maps and characters I believe. But the Portable Ops servers have been shut down recently.
