Yeah, I'm glad to have this place and as well the forum egf created to keep in touch with the good users of old GT, lol. Always better to discuss games or whatever really with people you know and care what they have to say about certain things, as opposed to obnoxious 11 year olds![]() Interesting.. True that man, especially when it comes to talking about MGS. Great pic, it's definitely Big Boss in the one on the left. I can see the strap of an eye patch on the right one as well. |

True, although the thought of having that dense jungle as a level in Ground Zeroes is pretty exciting, I would love for that to happen

meh... though I'm guessing the way this game is going to be set up, is to be one huge map with bases/camps inside it and you have to move around gathering intel (like in MGS where it was basically an open map/base you had to unlock area's to gain access to them) except the scale will be vastly improved. Replaying MGS3-HD really made me apreciate how dence that jungle and world is, and sneaking up on an enemy camp is so fucking awesome, its also present in MGS4 and just as awesome. Being able to do that on a larger scale and having the enviroment be massive and more dynamic would be a dream. I hope he can do it, and I hope GZ can really make that mechanic work. The only problem is making a world like that takes along time and you always end up with compromises. I hope it dsn't suffer the same fate that Crysis did with its 'open world'. |

Yeah, that is something I'm excited for as well. My favorite area in MGS4, or one of my favorites was the final one in act 1, that large camp you were at it just felt very tense and dangerous sneaking around at that. That huge military base in here with rain pouring down like crazy with superb atmosphere, it's gonna be a joy just safely making your way through the base I hope it is very open ended and that the gameplay is in some ways non linear, like using several methods to get to Chico in the base we just saw in this trailer, and ofc that is what MGS is all about, your own pace and stuff, but it'd be great if you're not totally constrained by a set of very specific set of steps to take before you can do that. I also hope there's challenge in it, I want getting to Chico to be a daunting task, enemy patrols, dogs sniffing you out, I don't want the mission to be set up in the sense that "go interrogate these 4 soldiers for intel and learn about Chico and Paz then go get him" and the part of getting to him is just effortless and the build up just there to add another 30 minutes to the mission. I also want the campaign to be coherent, I wanna have a clear goal of what I'm doing and I don't want it to feel like I'm being thrown around in a sort of half assed sloppy campaign, think Batman Arkham City, now before you kick me for bashing the game, I think it's a great game and I really enjoyed it, but the campaign there has no focus, the first game just did a way better job there, and while this by no means made Arkham City a bad game, it would really bum me out if Ground Zeroes suffered the same thing, just a sloppily thrown together campaign where you never really feel like what you're doing makes sense in pacing and from a story perspective, etc. I also hope it doesn't suffer the same faith that many games/developers do when they first go open world, where they just don't do it right at all and missions just feel like incredibly cheap and half assed. Oh and I was also gonna comment on the world itself, I think as evident by the trailer, we'll have a set of different environments that are open world but I don't think the entire game is set up like a GTA, where if you want you can walk from that rainy level a totally different one, I think as shown, the helicopter will take you to a different country and that will be it's own big place where you do your shit, but you're not gonna be running inbetween these places, that is my guess anyways. Also not sure how you're calling that dense jungle shown in the tech demo "meh" only to follow that with you appreciating the dense areas of MGS3.. Don't you think it'd be a pretty cool experience to run around in a very dense jungle with plants and grass and trees everywhere, just a totally busy jungle, slowly sneaking around that shit, reaching enemy camps and shit, etc.. basically like MGS3 except no loading screens, larger environments and a much more dense jungle, etc. |

Yeah Cartman I really suspect there'll be a jungle area to be honest, it's a given since you're going to have the ability to go to various countries. I it'll be slightly like PW in that there'll be many different levels/locations but unlike PW which had quite small areas it'll have very big areas, if the scales so huge maybe it'll have many levels that were the size of like one of the MGS4 levels - That would be amazing! And I get that same vibe with Arkham City, I loved it and the campaign was one of the funnest i've played in a while but it did lack focus really. It was all abit all over the place, most people pin that down to them trying to shoehorn in so many of Batman's rogue gallery |

I think it'll have co-op. Not sure about head-to-head like MGO. It doesn't work as well in open world games from my experience. It'd all sound good to me, because I enjoy games that promote and reward teamwork over individualism. |

Not really, dence Jungle's arn't that great and I'd prefer to move around man made enviroments, becasue tree climbing is a difficult thing to do right, if your going to do it. And I don't see why it can't be one massive huge map like GTA. Though I'm not sure how that would work from a story point of view unless it was structured like MGS3... also this Edited by baldgye, Sep 3 2012, 01:25 PM.

I don't know if someone here has already mentioned it (if so, sorry), but Kojima confirmed that GZ is NOT Project Orge. http://www.psu.com/a016789/Hideo-Kojima--MGS-Ground-Zeroes-is-NOT-Project-Ogre |

The map could be massive like GTA, but I'm not expecting it to be that. I mean it would be amazing if you traveled by foot or jeep through a desert to reach an enemy base, it would add to the sense of adventure a shitload and I'd really love that. I'm just not expecting it for some reason, specially with the helicopter being shown as the way of transport between countries |

I remember you. I actually doubt it will have co-op. In the trailer they specifically mention it's a one man job, and also it seems a bit much to have a game with such scale and graphics like that in co-op. Haha, nice one.

it wont have coop as nyxus said the trailer points out there wont be coop and snake has to sneak solo. and it could have competitive multiplayer just because the single player has huge maps doesnt mean mgo is going to have big maps. they can scale down maps or use old maps or just create online only maps for versus modes. in MGO in mgs4 they had maps that werent in the campaign they can just do that. |

I'm more thinking of it as being a map about 1/4 the size of DayZ (to walk from one side of the map to another takes a real time of probally a day or two... so about 1/4 the size of that, but have it mostly empty wilderness that you can explore but its pointless, and then have that populated with a few dence area's. |

Yeah, I'm not expecting that at all. I'm more thinking we get a few open world levels, rainy base being one where you have that entire area to freely sneak around, and once done there you use the helicopter or something like that to travel to a different location where you're thrown in a new open environment not sure why I am, the natural reaction to hearing "open world" would be that it is literally seamless, but I don't see it. The rain on this level is clearly something that is scripted, it is part of the level, character models all have wet clothing and that just isn't something I can imagine being dynamic, I think this level is textured to be a wet mess from start. So in my mind if they wanted a seamless world it would have to be dynamic and I don't really see that being the case. Of course they wouldn't have to have a dynamic weather system, it could gradually change between trips of these locations but that would probably be pretty strange So yeah, maybe I'm just being overly un-optmistic about the open world aspect for some reason, lol.. I really don't know, but in my mind I do feel almost certain that this will be how the game is set up |

I think that's how it is going to be as well, and I would prefer that over one large world, unless it would be like MGS3 as baldgye said, but that isn't really open world. |
