oh yeah, Adman is the guy I was thinking about

And yeah.. I've become incredibly tired of it, I thought early on this gen there was some innovations for console games in terms of how they played, controls were improved.. I mean in the past you'd have stupid shit like firing your gun with like square, it didn't make any sense..

So not to totally bash this gen, there has been quite the improvement in a few areas, but the past 2 years it is like all developers have become fucking blind to what makes a game a fucking game... and meanwhile games like Metal Gear get shit for having cutscenes, well yeah they have a lot of cutscenes but when you play the game you're at least playing a fucking video game..

I don't know how people couldn't be tired of what we see over and over in video games these times, it is literally all the same, these fucking trailers on e3 showing medal of honor, tomb raider, fucking running down a straight like with the game playing up every fucking thing for you, the only gameplay there is is you walking forward and pressing the button that shoots.. I mean I'm not gonna say it doesn't look good, it looks impressive but what about we spread it out a little.. maybe a game has 4-5 of these really heavily scripted moments that display some cinematic action going on, but when literally all the game has are these scripted moments it is time to realize that maybe you should do something with your game to keep the gamers attention that isn't flailing shit in front of the screen with 800 million helicopters crashing in your face

Also right now as I type, my sister is falling asleep listening to the MGS2 soundtrack, fucking. proud.

Yeah. Apparently a dialogue system like Mass Effect has is much better.
You are forced to endure the story every time you play through the game, but its much better than a cut scene you can skip :P

Or better yet, story into gameplay, were i'm forced to listen to the same banter between two characters every time i play the game, and that is much better than a codec call i can skip :P

Seriously, WTF!!

Things the main stream media calls revolutionary, or ground breaking, i call a nuisance. The first time i play a new game, it is for the story, the second time i play a game i'm playing for the gameplay, and to collect or do something i didn't do the first time. But a stupid dialogue system gets in the way because i'm forced to go through each conversation again.

MGS4 got crucified because of it's cut scene length, yeah well at least i can skip them. And the characters in MGS4 aren't stiff! or look like they are molded out of plastic! They look real, and that makes it easy to care about them. unlike shephard

So with this in mind, a seamless open world does seem more likely.

Also, at your new article on Ground Zeroes, Nyxus about the Kojima tweet regarding boss units and theme, I'm hoping this is at least some hint at him planning to continue the trend of a theme and having a unit of bad guys you fight

I'm seriously not even joking when I say I'm not expecting traditional boss fights in this game, it seems to be what the series is going for since the westernization of it, with PW only having pretty much huge unmanned vehicles and shit you went up against.. I would not be surprised if we don't have MGS1-2-3-4 esque boss battles here

I'd say your 100% spot on.

The lack of a hud leads me to believe GZ will have "scripted boss fights" similar to those in Uncharted.

I don't think so, I think GZ will feature traditional boss fights. Kojima said he wants the game to have an MGS1 feel, too.

Wow, was not expecting that. Mr Cartmen you. The series being westernized? Well, you could say MGS4 did this, but definitely not Peace Walker and we have no evidence to suggest this is a super westernized game yet. Only the fact that it's open and you can drive cars. I mean why should an open game be only a western trait.

I don't know, but i think Kojima meant that GZ will have a first time feeling like MGS1, and not necessarily be like MGS1.

They're not my words... Kojima himself and the team talked a lot during development of MGS4 to westernize it, and they seem to build on that

I'm not necessarily being negative about it, but if things turn out the way I expect them to, I will be very sad because to see MGS succumb to these absolute shit boss battles we've seen every other developer do this gen would be... tragic, Kojima is way better than that and has had so many brilliant boss battles, to ruin that because a traditional boss fight isn't up to the "cinematic standard" of today's gaming is a fucking travesty.

gosh, I'm gonna rant again but seriously what the shit does it mean to me to have some boring fucking automated boss fight where I press 4 timed buttons to counter an attack then follow that up with some other timed ones to hit the bad guy.... it's horrible, it might look more cinematic but from a gameplay standpoint it's a god damn abomination.. He can make GZ cinematic without sacrificing boss battles, who cares if you firing 10 bullets into the head of a boss doesn't make sense... that isn't the point, it's the experience and it leaves a much better impression to have that than you having something that looks good but it absolute horse shit from a gameplay standpoint

Hopefully Kojima won't give up on boss battles, specially seeing how many fucking cool and clever ones he's had in the past

I think the atmosphere in MGS was perfect for stealth infiltration. Dirty, gritty, dark and tense. This seems to take that to a new level. If it weren't for flight of the Valkyries of course.

I really don't see Kojima make boss battles based on QTEs. Doesn't seem like his style. I actually don't know many games like that, some have QTEs in it, but they also have traditional gameplay.

I really don't think it should be so black and white. Western or Japanese. If QTE's happen then I wont be a happy bunny, i don't like em and if they get rid of traditional boss fights i wont be happy either. But i see no evidence to suggest these two will happen.

You're right, Kojima explains he also has an international way of thinking: he is influenced by both western culture (through movies and such) and Japanese culture (because that's where he lives and grew up).

There are two areas in which PW westernised.

1. Two weapon limit. In previous titles there are multiple weapons i can use anytime i want, but with PW we're limited to the two weapons we chose at the start of the mission. The two weapons limit is a staple of any western shooter.

2. Big multiplayer push. Probably the most talked about feature of PW before it's release was Co-op multiplayer. The series up to this point was about Solo Sneaking missions, but PW strongly encouraged Co-op play. And while previous MGS games had multiplayer, it seemed to be a bigger selling point for PW. Multiplayer is more popular in the west than in the east.

I only see this continuing with GZ. From the lack of a hud, to the absence of vanishing weapons.

Multiplayer isn't more western than eastern. Especially on handhelds. Look for example at the Monster Hunter series, very popular in Japan. I think that's more what PW's concept was based on.

Also, the two weapon limit is only for specific suits, the battle suits have more.

And PW also felt very Japanese in other areas: lots of menus and experience gaining for example/
