Portable ops isn't cannon anymore
Do you know why?
I just thought there was just a rumor that Kojima disowned it.
I haven't read any articles where Kojima as been quoted that it didn't happen.
If you have i'd like to read it ^^

I don't have any links, but I'm pretty sure it was announced as non-cannon around the 25th Ann, because its absent from the collection, yet PW is in it.

Though it's in the 20th Ann collection so who knows... I'm sure adbro or nyx know or have some link or some shit but I remember reading it on here

This is a timeline that lists all official and canon titles within the franchise.

http://www.konami.jp/mg25th/truth/

It's in Japanese, but yeah. I can read it and confirm. :p

His excuse for David Hayter not being in the game was absolute garbage

>Recreate the Metal Gear series
>It's new type of Metal Gear
>By no means new outside of how gameplay works still follows the old plot and builds on it
>japanese version still has original voice actor

I'll try not to dwell on all this too much, I already have, but it's a big deal to me and it sucks.. and his reasons for doing it aren't even story related just some lame excuse about reinvention? He's basically saying fuck Hayter.

Bring on Doyle/Cygan then.
If Hideo is planning on doing a game after Phantom Pain 1984 and before Outer Heaven 1995, then this is a good time to change BB'S voice, so Hayter can do Solid Snakes (David) voice to create a contrast between there voices. From there they could redo MG1 & MG2 or tell them from another vantage point.

WOW, so from September 2, 1964 - end of Operation Snake Eater to 1974 the beginning of Peace Walker the only thing that may have happened that's cannon is 1972 - Les Enfants Terribles Project..

Weird i wonder why Hideo got rid of PO it would be interesting to here that story. that's a shame i really liked Null, Python & Gene.

(In the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database, the event is also referred to as the "San Hieronymo Peninsula Metal Gear Seizure Incident)

Kojima basically answered that
Yep:

Quote:

Kojima explained that the new unit, Diamond Dogs, has many different meanings behind its name. One of them is a reference to a David Bowie album. It also refers to the term Dog of War, but at the same time they have their pride (which is reflected in the Diamond part).

It sounds like Ground Zeroes & Phantom Pain has kill bill 1&2 parts feel to it, but divided where GZ is 1/3 of the MGSV experience.
I wonder if Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain will be released separately on current gen consoles and collected for next gen consoles. I also wonder if Ground Zeroes will be more of a demo or DLC, because it sounds like this prolog is shorter then Phantom Pain. This way they could releases a next gen collected edition later. It sounds like fox engine will be scaled down for current gen consoles, they may just do this just for the Ground Zeroes game, that is if Phantom Pain doesn’t land on current gen consoles. This would make it easier to put Ground Zeroes as a Pre- DLC. Either way it would be interesting to see gaming company’s do Pre-DLC before the core game comes out.

I think the Fox Engine will definitely be scaled down for current gen consoles, but I want to believe it wont. It looks way too good for current gen. I wonder if it's the way the engine works allows them to have it look better, without having it suffer from being outdated? If they have to scale it down for current gen consoles, how much?

Well Kojima said in the interview he can't promise it will look exactly like what we have seen so far, but it will be very close to that.

have to say, TTP and GZ's don't look too mind blowing to be on current gen systems... you only have to look at what GTA and Uncharted achieved.

On the intro part of the trailer you can see that the character models aren't super high detail or complex and defo (to me) look current gen.

I'd imagine that yeah FOX is designed around next gen systems, but allows them to scale to PS3/360 and Vita without any problem.

I figured that if the game has been in development for so long, they probably know what they're doing.

Yeah bits do and bits don't... its hard to tell... though the fact Kojima is openly running it on PC hardware kinda indicates (least to me) that it's being developed for next gen systems aswell, otherwise bringing a PS3/360 unit is alot easier/cheaper than bringing a PC rig you have to set up and kinda hide the spec's off
