Snake Eater provided a very effective origin story that shows us what set in motion the domino effect that lead to Big Boss's evil. It was a very effective telling of the story, just look at how much both the fans and Kojima revere this game, particularly the ending. If anything has ruined that, it's Kojima. Let's say you hadn't played MG 1 and 2, and didn't know about the things he had done. How would you get the idea that he'd go on to enslave children, recruit them for war, murder them, etc? There is absolutely nothing indicative in MGS3's ending that leads tot his. Even if you HAD played MG1 and 2, there is still nothing in MGS3's ending that can lead one to believe he'd go on to murder children. (On the note of people who've played MG 1 and 2, I don't think anyone here except myself, you (seems that way) and maybe Pete has played them. Could be wrong.) Yeah well there are differing opinions on that in the MG community. I think If you eliminate either PW or PO it is a lot easier to understand why BB is still so attached. If they both exist in the canon, it doesn't make much sense, it would mean that PW devalued PO. Because in PO he gets over the death of the Boss and in PW he does it all over again.

But I feel that if you did know about what BB would become in the end. Then MGS3 is very effective. Kojima used dramatic irony very well IMO.

I don't think Kojima really cared about PO when writing the subsequent games. After MGS3, Big Boss no longer believed in blindly fighting for a country, as The Boss did, in a way. So he began MSF, fighting for people who needed help in stead of countries. But at the end of PW, he was forced into a defensive position, since Zero openly declared war against him. He isn't planning on letting them erase him. And in GZ, it seems like Mother Base is attacked because it has nuclear strike capability, which in turn makes Big Boss even more bitter. It's a process, a chain of events that eventually leads to Outer Heaven.

Yes, it should be a slow process, but if you start the process at MGSV you devalue all the character building in the previous games. Which I believe to be effective. So are we PO fans here?
