Whenever I hear about big Metal Gear news I always start thinking of the weird and wonderful. I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I am particularly interested in Liquid Snake and his backstory. I'm going to copy and paste parts of the wiki, excuse me.

Raised in the UK after birth, he joined the army and was assigned to an SAS unit to track down and destroy mobile Scud missiles. In truth, he infiltrated the Middle East as a sleeper agent for the British Secret Intelligence Service, but he was taken prisoner by the Iraqis and went missing.

Because of his status as a prisoner of war in Iraq, he also never got a chance to enter Century House. In 1994, he was rescued by the U.S. Government. After Solid Snake "killed" Big Boss in Zanzibar Land, Liquid's hatred for Snake grew even more, since he had been denied the chance to exact his own revenge, due to his belief that Big Boss had undergone the Les Enfants Terribles project willingly, and "chose" Liquid to be the "inferior" clone.

During this period he learned Arabic and became near-native. His hair was also bleached blonde by the sun.

Now here's where it gets interesting. Did you know that Roy Campbell had a brother? Matt Campbell. Legal father of Meryl Silverburgh. Here's his backstory:

Matt Campbell served in the Marines with his brother Roy Campbell. However, they eventually fell in love with the same woman. Roy Campbell, for his brother's sake, quit the Marines and decided to transfer over to the Green Berets, using the excuse that he was doing it to serve his country, which he intended to do anyway. For many years, it was believed that Matt Campbell was Meryl's biological father, though it was later revealed that it was actually his brother Roy, due to an earlier affair between the latter and Matt's wife. Matt was killed in action during the Gulf War.

Gulf war.

Here is my idea for a possible "Metal Gear Liquid" game:

Start off not knowing who the protagonist is. He's got an English accent, but he's got brown hair and looks exactly like Big Boss (perhaps with a beard or moustache to confuse you, maybe a moustache seeing as they were all the rage among British soldiers at that time, and he could look like a young Old Snake). He's got a name you've never thought of like James or William, with a surname and everything. He enters Iraq with the SAS, mission is to investigate possible WMDs (actually Metal Gear), also as a sleeper agent for the Secret Service. His codename is "Snake". He then goes incognito - missions based around disguising yourself a bit like MGS3 uses camo. You eventually get captured by the Iraqis.

Think Bravo Two Zero

That serves as the "Virtuous Mission" of Metal Gear Liquid. Your hair is bleached yellow by the sun during your period in Iraqi captivity (if they want to go down that route still, it's a bit silly) but you have a long beard. You are then rescued in Prison by Matt Campbell, who becomes your commanding officer in a similar way as the Colonel except takes part in the missions like Plisskin. You retreat into the mountains and meet Kurdish freedom fighters, including Sniper Wolf. Eventually Matt Campbell is killed during the events of the game, you destroy Metal Gear and end up uncovering Patriot influence.

By the end of the game, you have shaved your beard. You look exactly like Liquid Snake. You abandon Britain and join Foxhound.

Now, in between all this he's going to find out he's a clone of Big Boss. Does he even know he's related in any way at the start of all this? Who knows. Kojima can work his magic there. You're also going to probably see some Zero links considering this is UK related. Isn't it interesting that Zero put the dominant-genes clone in Britain and the recessive one in America? It would be interesting to see the Patriots and their relationship to Britain.

What do you guys think? Could you see Kojima doing something like this?

Regards,

Pomydor.

You can tell me, man, what’s the English for sotter, or greip, or smore, or pleiter, gloaming or glunching or well-henspeckled? And if you said gloaming was sunset you’d fair be a liar.

I also think a Liquid Snake game could be awesome. Unfortunately Kojima doesn't really seem planning to do so, at least in the near future, but there are a lot of possibilities here, I agree with that.

Here is what I wrote about it a while ago:

Quote:

Solid/Liquid’s first missions

One of the possibilities is to go back in the timeline rather than forward, and take for example the time when Solid Snake was a very young soldier as a point of departure. This was even before the Outer Heaven events, and Snake and Campbell touch on it very briefly in the Mission Briefing of Metal Gear Solid 1:

Campbell: Liquid Snake. The man with the same codename as you.

Snake: Tell me what you know.

Campbell: He fought in the Gulf War as a teenager, the youngest person in the SAS. His job was to track down and destroy mobile SCUD missile launching platforms. You were there too I believe. Didn’t you infiltrate western Iraq with a platoon of Green Berets?

Snake: I was just a kid myself back then.

Campbell: The details are classified, but it seems that originally he penetrated the Middle East as a sleeper for the SIS.

Snake: He was a spy for the British Secret Intelligence Service?

Campbell: But he never once showed his face in Century House. He was taken prisoner in Iraq, and after that there was no trace of him for several years. After you retired, he was rescued and became a member of FOXHOUND.

What is interesting here, is that both Liquid and Solid were in Iraq at the same time, without even knowing the other existed. They could build on this by possibly have the player control both characters throughout the game, switching between one and the other to show their story and perspective on the setting.

It’s also nice that this short piece of information is the only story written about this particular event, which would leave Kojima with a practically blank slate and a lot of creative freedom to write the story for this game.

There is a piece of dialogue, uttered by Liquid in MGS1, that is never fully explained.

Liquid: But…I’m the one father chose. [...] He always told me I was inferior.

It isn’t really explained how Big Boss ‘chose’ him, when that happened and in what context. It is also interesting that apparently Liquid did meet Big Boss at some point in his life. So maybe this could be further fleshed out, in whatever form.

It would also be nice to see what Solid and Liquid are like as very young (teenage) soldiers and how they see the world at that point.

EVA: You think you know him, but I know him better.

The plot thickens. What if Solid Snake is among the Green Berets led by Matt Campbell that save Liquid? He isn't aware of it at the time of course. Could he encounter Big Boss in the mountains with Sniper Wolf?

I swear, whoever comes in here and asks who Matt Campbell is, I am going to ban them.

I suppose one problem is that Matt Campbell was a marine, not a green beret. His brother was a green beret. That's not to say we couldn't see Solid Snake out there.
