Desmond mutters a low curse, seeing their main escape route crash into scrap metal. The only way out seems to be a fight. One that he's not sure he'd win, with surprise taken from him. Dashing out of the building, he runs out of the warehouse, aim focused on Oberon. Invoking the Shroud, Desmond tries his best to close in. He has no idea if the NOL officer's power can affect him while shrouded, but at least he should be able to buy the Red Devil some time to act. |

Watching in horror as the Shebalve is swatted out of the sky, it occurs to Micah that the plan just went right out the window. "Fuck! Dammit, everyone, grab what you can and evacuate – contingency as briefed. I'm gonna buy us some time.” Bringing Fornax up, Micah runs to the loading bay door. As he does so, the normally-bright filigree on the receiver suddenly goes white – almost blindingly so. Reaching the loading bay, he aims just in front of Oberon and pulls the trigger twice. The gun roars, spitting two loads of white-glowing pellets at the Admiral's feet. As they impact, they explode into a firestorm nearly six feet across and maybe four high. Iron Tager was not known to flinch, but as he saw the wreckage of the Brigand fly towards him, he did take one uncertain step back. Then, his face hardened as his soldier's instincts kicked in. He raised both gauntlets to the sky and charged up his power. This would gravely injure any who were close, so he hoped that the Sureshot people had gotten in gear and moved out. Flicking his gaze over his shoulder, he took aim at Oberon and smirked. "Is this ALL, Library?!" he taunted, metallic gauntlets reaching out as the Shebalve got closer and closer. And then, it connected, Tager being pushed back a few feet as the Brigand got closer and closer to hitting the floor. The wind knocked out of him, the Red Devil recalculated and with a gigantic surge of strength turned his body around. The Brigand was raised high vertically... ...then was slammed with the greatest force available towards Keaton, the ground buckling savagely under the colossal impact. |

Keaton shoots straight up over the Shebalve, bourne on a whirlwind, as it slams into the street below him, although the whizzing shrapnel draws blood in multiple places, including the removal of most of one ear and a chunk of airfoil that embeds itself in his shin. His face is cold as sleet as he uses two hands; one, to direct a wind carrying an entire detached wing of the wrecked Shebalve as a blast shield against Micah's shots; and the other, which sweeps a highly oxygenated breeze down into the firestorm caused by the pellets, igniting it into a blazing sirocco, which he hurls at Desmond like a sheet of napalm. "ENOUGH." The twisting winds above Sureshot erupt into an almighty tornado, ripping the top of the building off entirely and carrying multiple tons of cement into the air, then slinging it in all directions. The sleet passes through Desmond, shrouded as he was. Clattering on the ground beneath him, Desmond lands atop the burning ash. Cursing as the shroud ends, Desmond carefully navigates the ground, he's trained with caltrops before, and this should be no different. Seeing Oberon in the air, Desmond doesn't even bother trying to throw a knife. He's sure it will be intercepted by his power over wind, and would likely hinder more than it would help. Climbing up the side of a nearby building, he tries to position himself for another attack. Even if he just serves as a distraction, evacuation is key. An asset as strong as the Red Devil must be evacuated, that much is obvious. Edited by Smitejr, Jul 18 2012, 03:13 AM.

The Red Devil himself was rather nonplussed that Oberon was focusing on eliminating the Sureshot residence and crew rather than focusing on him. If this man was a high ranking officer for his power, his smarts must have been fairly lacking. No one should just ignore Iron Tager on a battlefield, even if hindered by mobility. Seeing the tornado whip itself around the wind user, Tager's mind went into overdrive. He concentrated and felt a slight pull. Oh yes... he'd magnetised the Brigand's wreckage, hadn't he? --------------------------------------------------- Keaton would soon see Iron Tager shoot up into the air, even higher than he was flying, thanks to the jump servos in his legs. The ground had cratered underneath where the Red Devil had taken off from. His gauntleted fists glowed bright yellow. All of a sudden, the wreckage of the Brigand flew once more, up from the ground and towards Oberon at high speed as Tager pulled with all his magnetism might. He began to spark slightly with the effort. But what comes up? Must come down. And Tager stopped pulling with the magnetism just in time to drop a flying elbow towards the N.O.L officer's form. |

Luckily, most of the SureShot team is on their way out the side entrance when the downburst hits. Stephen is the last one out, carrying a duffel bag and a pair of gun bags. He's knocked off his feet and sent sprawling down the short flight of stairs from the exit. Jack runs back to help him to his feet, but Stephen waves him off and attempts to get up - and promptly starts swearing as as his left wrist complains vehemently. Trying to bend it, he's rewarded with a grinding sensation and more pain. Broken. Seeing Stephen's trouble, Jack comes back over and helps him to his feet. They both break into a run as Tager starts throwing the Shebalve around again, dodging aluminum and cement chunks from SureShot's roof before disappearing into the parking garage next door. Micah is thrown bodily from the loading bay door as the whirlwind tears into SureShot. He lands sideways on the asphalt of the parking lot - a drop of about four feet - and he yelps as he feels something give in his right shoulder. Rolling to his knees as he's pelted with small bits of debris, he finds that the shoulder is still functional - just extremely painful, possibly a torn muscle. Swearing to himself, he realizes he's pretty well out of commission. Getting to his feet, he notices something else - his right forearm is bleeding profusely from several long scrapes where it hit the pavement as he threw it up to protect his head. Growling, he pulled his combat knife and cut a chunk of his shirt to serve as a temporary bandage. Resheathing the knife, he goes to tie the piece of fabric around his arm when he notices the wreckage of the Brigand suddenly levitating out of the corner of his eye. Glancing up at what was happening, his eyes go wide, and he starts swearing again as he breaks for the parking garage as well, trying to pick a path through the debris that will get him away as quickly as possible. He just makes it to the garage as Tager impacts. |

With a roar of effort, Keaton turns the tornado's funnel sideways. The herculean winds envelop his form seamlessly and sream outward, shearing force off of both ends of the pincer assault - but Tager's magnetism keeps him and the Shebalve attracted to each other, and only the shielding tornado prevents Keaton from being smashed in between hammer and anvil. He is caught. This is, perhaps, why his face drains of blood when a tall blonde woman in a black dressing gown steps seamlessly out of a fold in space, like a pop-up book. There are dark circles under her eyes, and her cheeks are hollow and white, but her hands do not shake as she lifts one and points it at him, fingers crackling with thunder. "Get out." she says, and a bolt of lightning splits the gloomy morning, cleaves through Keaton, and hurls him into the upper atmosphere, his howl of rage echoing behind him as the swirling winds fade. She sighs, and turns a tired look on everyone present. "Please. Tell me you are the last group choosing to skirmish with the Novis Orbus Librarium tonight. It is growing - tiresome." It's evident that she'd just gotten out of bed. The dressing gown is the only thing she has on. |

Having reached the relative safety of the parking garage entrance, the SureShot crew is startled by the sudden appearance of the woman. Micah steps forward, still holding the piece of cloth from his shirt against his arm. "Pardon me, ma'am, but, who might you be?" It's fairly clear that the woman is extremely powerful, and Micah's pretty sure that he wants to avoid offending her, so he resists the urge to comment on who was choosing to skirmish with who. |

Desmond slides to the ground, kicking off the roof as he gets low enough. Dusting off his robes, he turns to Micah, nonplussed. "She is a very powerful woman, who defeated the NOL officer and saved out lives. Is any further introduction truly relevant?" Turning to Rachel, he lowers his head, cloak concealing his face completely. "Thank you for your assistance. I do not think we would have been able to see the sun set were it not for you. Is the Red Devil here on your orders?" |
