Reforged; Necessity is the mother of invention

Rusty shook his head.

"Nope, not yet." the mechanic interjected. "Look, I'm going to need you to trust me on this, okay? But step the hell back and I do honestly mean it."

Gingerly, Rusty picked up what looked like a katana but was jagged edged like a sword. At the unanswered question, he spoke: "Was an unused weapon idea. Now I just use it to cut shit in half when I work with metal."

With a heavy breath, he slashed, blade aiming for the middle of the axe, trying to neatly split it in two.

-Ten Seconds Later-

Rusty fell out of the wall, eyes swirling.

"Anyone...catch the number....of that bus?"

Desmond offers an arm, pulling Rust back up.

"...Bus? There was no bus. We are in the Alucard mansion. Did you suffer a brain injury?"

"...I knew that. Honest." Rust replied, springing back up like nothing had happened. "No buses. Cause we're in the Alucard Mansion. Of course. Obvious." The words rolled off his tongue as if he was trying to reassure himself more than anyone else. Eventually, however, the mechanic got his head on straight.

"Alright, now let's see if this has worked."

Walking over to the now dimming pieces of metal, Rust began to grin wider and wider.

"Okay, this worked out better than I thought. Finally some luck for a change."

Picking up the axe shaped piece of metal, he held it aloft in one hand, obviously being a LOT lighter than the Halford had been previously. Checking the edge of the blade, he whistled as it easily cut through the workman's gloves he had been using.

"Very nice indeed." Rust muttered, holding it out to his side, blade towards the floor in a relaxed stance. "Feels lighter, bit more dynamic...yeah, this feels right..." He gave a one handed practice swing, the metal WHOOSHing through the air with ease. Nodding, Rust then took a breath. "Final test."

He twisted his wrist.

The axe split right down the middle vertically, bottom half sliding to the floor.

Silence reigned.

"An....interesting design. All the more so, for being made without seithr."

Turning up to Rust, Desmond picks up the fallen half.

"Is this a feature you intended, or a design flaw? If the latter, it's nothing major. It's to be expected, trying to design so intricate a weapon without Ars. I'm no mechanic myself, and trying to get the reloading spring of my blade was...tricky."

Rusty just chuckled.

"Desmond, my friend." the mechanic started. "This? This is the base. We're nowhere near finished yet!" Taking the other half from the mercenary, he held both blades, one in either hand. Instead on the typical battle axe, the metal blades looked more like single bladed hatches, one left and one right. These, somehow, felt even lighter as Rusty gave them a couple of practice swings.

At the moment, the blades were just simple long pieces of metal with an axe blade each on the end. Offering Desmond a grin, Rusty held both halves together from a moment and twisted his wrist again. With a click, the single blade was made whole once again.

"Nowhere. Near. Finished."

"If you wish to make it more intricate, you will likely need seithr. Unless you have access to more advanced fabrication tools than you currently possess."

Desmond can't understand why Rust wants to make his weapon more intricate. A weapon needs no embellishment, it's beauty is determined from how well it accomplishes it's task. However, he doesn't tell the rocker this, as he lives his life far differently.

"Or, if you have some tricks up your sleeve...let's see it."

"That's the problem Desmond."

With a final inspection, Rusty gently laid the prototype down on the nearby workbench.

"Can't use seithr as well as I could any more. Not since the attack on Wadatsumi HQ. It just doesn't flow the same way. It's like...say before my seithr output was like a hosepipe. Now I'm trying to get that much through at one time, put instead, I'm using a tear dropper to try and accomplish it. I guess that's what happens when you fire a goddamn laser out of the side of the building."

He groaned as he looked at the dull drab grey weapon. It seemed lifeless, cold.

"Maybe to you, this thing needs no more added to it." the mechanic told him. "But to me? Well, it needs proper handles, the rough edges need to be sanded off, the seithr circuits need to be laid, the barrels need to be attached, the connection relay needs to be re-established and improved upon, the blades need to be sharpened and shaped, a badass design and colour scheme needs to be created, the excess metal needs to be taken off entirely and I need to find a way for it to convert the seithr into what I want. I mean, I'd ask Rachel for help, but she's completely tired out from so many trips."

The mechanic frowned, before taking another swig of water.

"Maybe I should take a break before tackling the problems.I got the hard bit out the way by actually forging this beast." he muttered. "It's not gonna do me any good tiring myself out mentally and physically when I'm this close and some how irreparably screwing it up something fierce."

He stood back from the joined weapon. It looked completely serviceable, just utterly plain and boring. Grey on grey with added grey and a touch of grey with a grey hue.

"I bet something like this seems finished and complete to you, Des." Rusty told him. "I'm a little showier than you though. Would it really look right for me to go out with something as boring as that?" He grinned, the rocker clearly satisfied so far despite how tired he looked. "You know me, man. I'm a wannabe rock star. Gotta have a bit of spice to my stuff. Can't just go to ANYTHING after a pure white electric guitar battleaxe that shot out fire and shockwaves, am I right?"

"...Barrels?"

Desmond doesn't ask any more, if Rust wants a fancy toy for his weapon, then fine for him. The Ikarugan's insisted on making his blades look like more than an industrial tool, perhaps hoping to strike more fear. In any case, his points were valid. Much of what he said would indeed make the weapon more efficient.

He refused any additions to the Shroud, and was refused when he asked it dyed dull grey. He would bear the outspoken nature of the garish white. Just the same, he would argue against any changes that reduced it's efficiency as a weapon.

"I would be willing to gather and convert the seithr. The task shouldn't be too hard, not worth bothering Rachel. She looked quite exhausted last I saw her."

Still, that doesn't mean he wasn't eager to help. The way the blades looked now were beautiful to behold, and hopefully the garish additions wouldn't take too much away.

Rusty nodded.

"That would be...hang on, sorry..." The mechanic yawned in exhaustion. "...a really good idea, Des. Thanks a lot, man. But honestly? It's a hell of a lot of seithr work and I already know you used so much for the Shroud. You're sure you're okay with it? I was gonna ask Nu..."

Rusty trailed off, rethinking that. Would that have been the right idea though? Nu had shown that since the rescue she hadn't been able to control her strength right. Nearly throttling Albus had shown that.

So sweet Amaterasu, how strong will she be seithr wise?

The thought made Rusty blanch slightly. Just what had the N.O.L done to her? Another yawn came from the rocker.

"....scuse me. But yeah, either her or Tsub- I mean, yeah, you'd be the best choice now that I think about it..."

"Rust. You require sleep. It is pointless to push yourself, at this rate you will only cause needless damage to your new weapon."

Sighing, Desmond is pretty sure that Rust will ignore him. Still, keeping the man talking might cause him to sleep before he blemishes the beautiful twin axe blades.

"While you may be right on Nu...why would Tsubaki be a poor choice? She has an excellent ability to channel seithr, the moves she can perform with Izayoi are incredible. You would not do wrong if she were to assist you."
