What.
Quite simply, Albus was a little bored.

He, Rusty, Nu, and Ashley had eventually went their separate ways after exploring the Manor and Valkenhayn's collection. Rusty had gone off to work on his weapon, and he wasn't quite sure what the two girls were up to. And well, even if you are in a mansion like the Alucard Mansion and have a love of history and culture like Albus does, you still manage to stop fanboying over everything.

The 'effing formation of NATO and the Warsaw Pact were inside this mansion, for god's sake! That's pretty damn tough to beat.

And so that leaves us to the present, in which Albus is walking down a random hallway to god knows where. He had his arms causally crossed at the back of his neck. Although he still very much appreciated the wonderful designing of the hallway, it had lost its initial pizzazz, and now he was in need of entertainment.

"Jeez, where the hell is everyone?" He muttered to the air. "Even I've lost interest at gazing at furniture for hours on end."

"Maybe you should work on your stealth? A voice that loud and a sniper could peg you off from a mile away, if the wind's right." Emerging out of a doorway, head bowed like a monk to squeeze through, Iron Tager made his presence known. The Red Devil towered over Albus as he towered over anybody and his demonic features contrasted with the smooth bass voice that was issued forth.

"Good evening." He greeted. "I take it you're another of the group Rachel managed to teleport away from somewhere. Although, I must admit I did expect to run into Ragna the Bloodedge here first. He tends to have a knack to find himself in trouble."

Looking back at Albus, he straightened his glasses.

"My apologies. Kokonoe's influence here is slightly weaker than in our own space in Wadatsumi. I must be losing a few protocols that she controls like my brain functions. I hope my appearance did not cause too much alarm, Mr...?"

Albus is slightly startled by Tager's sudden appearance. Hey, even if you were actively searching for anyone to talk to, you'd be surprised too if the Red Devil came out of nowhere. He recovers quickly though and grins at him.

"Non, it's okay." He shrugged. "Had a building collapse around me not too long ago, so you really didn't startle me anymore than anyone else could have. The name's Albus Scaslivy, by the way. I went on the mission to retrieve some equipment from the Duct Tape with Rust, Ragna, and Yayoi, if you were aware of that mission."

He looked the giant man over. "So, what you doing? I was just walking around for something to do myself."

"I wasn't made aware of their mission, no. I only just recently managed to arrive here myself." Tager nodded at Albus. "And I hope the equipment salvaged was of high enough quality. I seem to have damaged myself quite a bit with a few of the manoeuvres that I've been performing. However, I should be able to neutralise any problems with circuitry or what not. If worst comes to worst, Hetfield might be able to do the more mechanical repairs if instructed how."

Albus' next question gave the giant some pause.

"To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. Normally I'd debrief to Kokonoe, but as I said earlier, her presence is diminished whilst I'm in this manor. That might have more to do with Rachel's privacy than any fault of our equipment. As such, I appear to have quite a bit of downtime."

Looking around the architecture, Tager released a little steam from his gauntlets. Residual energy tended to build up even when not in combat mode, so releasing it every so often helped.

"I take it you've had enough sight seeing for one day," the Red Devil grinned very slightly at Albus, "Hearing your complaints earlier. I take it then, that you wouldn't mind an old soldier joining your company for a few hours?"

"Well, you'll be disappointed in that regard, I think." Albus said apologetically. "We couldn't get much out of there, and I'm not sure on the quality of it. That damn...thing in the air fucked everything up. Ragna took a couple of hits but otherwise we're healthy."

Albus made a toothy grin at Tager's suggestion. "Khndir ch’ka man. You're right, I'm pretty bored right now. Rusty went off to work on a new weapon, and I have no idea where everyone else is. Just having someone to talk to would be nice."

He started off down the hallway, pacing himself to ensure Tager was right with him. "So, what'ya wanna talk about?"

The heavy footfalls of Tager somehow didn't shake the manor, nor the armour sets that lined the hallways. I was almost like magic. Or Ronseal.

"Well, to be entirely honest, I was wondering what exactly I could offer in this place. Science and sorcery have a tendency not to be as compatible as we'd like them to be. The laws of nature seem to be slightly altered here, what with no sunlight, the plants managing to survive despite no adequate means of photosynthesis, me weight apparently doesn't cause any material strain on the structure, et cetera. Therefore, I'm not as capable for combat or for my science know how in a place like this."

The Red Devil didn't seem disheartened however. He sounded just like a veteran of his calibre would. Determined.

"That leaves me with my last option. My life has pretty much been war ever since I started to serve under Kokonoe. Perhaps even longer, but I...cannot recall. It's all too hazy with only brief flashes. But regardless. The reports on the attack on Wadatsumi HQ revealed one thing. Tactics and surprise were the only things that saved them. Let me offer a veteran's guess about your mission, Scaslivy."

The giant looked down at the glass wielder, face unreadable.

"You went in as soon as possible, despite knowing it was an ambush and basically raced against the clock to get as many items as necessary before retreating and reinforcements from the N.O.L showed up, am I correct?"

Albus' reaction to Tager's explanation of how the laws of nature are altered can be summed up as this:

"...Eh?"

But he kicks back in and understands what Tager says after that. He thinks a moment about the situation at the Duct Tape.

"More or less, yeah." He answered. "Basically, we wanted to salvage what we could from Rusty's shop before it was likely turned into a giant crater when the Library went in for the mass assault on Wadatsumi. Monoc- that's the guys Jagd is with- also needed to get the hell out of there. While Monoc bailed, Rachel sent me, Rusty, Ragna, and Tsu to the Duct Tape to try to get what we could. We were on our own; Monoc was too busy evacuating, and Nu was seen as too risky to send there should she be recaptured so quickly."

He scratched his chin. "I called my sis, whose in Intelligence, to look up what was watching the Duct Tape. We knew that the Air Corps and Airbourne Marines were waiting for us, but...well, obviously that giant ship was a dirty little secret in the reports for sis to not have found out about it. That thing is what caught us off guard. Shaved the whole top half of the shop of with a laser, dropped the Marines, and we just held them back until Rachel showed up and got us out of there. We only managed to get a few different boxes of supplies back."

He paused. "Alright, so what's the advice from the veteran? I can already see just what could've gone wrong. If any of the others died, it'd would really hurt us. I'm more disposable I guess, but still."

Instantly, Tager answered.

"Did you prioritise what equipment would be the most valuable to what essentially is a siege? Was there any plan for if the shop had been more ruthlessly prepared for your arrival, via remote detonation or otherwise? And perhaps most importantly, if Rachel hadn't shown up in time, what would you have done?"

Instead of letting Albus answer, Tager instead raised a hand to silence any arguments to his claims.

"Easy, Scaslivy. I'm aware I'm focusing on the what ifs. Truth to be told, with limited resources, you pulled out an extraction relatively well, even including your only recent introduction to the group. Who was the commander to the operation?"

Realising the army speak may have been a bit too formal, the Red Devil relaxed his speech a little.

"Who was calling the shots?"

Albus listens obediently at the Red Devil, respecting him due to his experience. He is one of the only person he knows that is a soldier, not a brawler.

"Rachel was calling the shots." He responded. "She's pretty much the leader in all of this shit, and the only one who can compete for that would probably be Koko Pu- Úgy értem, Kokonoe when she shows up." He hopes that he won't be offended by his nickname for the beastkin.

"Rusty's the one who suggested the extraction, since it was his shop after all. We saw it as worthwhile, despite the risks. The end result was disappointing, we got out of there relatively unharmed." He pauses.

"And for the explosives question, I've been keeping tabs on the place myself. My sis never found any information regarding the place being rigged with a trap, besides the obvious surveillance on it. My sis tends to look pretty deep if she can, and something as dangerous like explosives can't just be kept under wraps to often, less they risk a soldier or civilian being injured or killed by them. As for the other questions...you got me."

"Kokonoe won't be too much help right now, I must admit." Tager replied. "Her activities have been forced to a minimum ever since the N.O.L laid siege to Wadatsumi."

That thought raised a particularly intriguing idea.

"It might be worth seeing if there is a portable radio or television set around here." The Red Devil muttered. "It may help to know what exactly is going on in the 8th Hierarchical City, even if it is somewhat tainted by the media. We can at least grab a sense of the scale involved. And any announcements made by the N.O.L are going to be crucial right now."

The ogre nodded at Albus' description of the mission.

"Not bad, rookie." Tager honestly complimented. "You went in with a far inferior force and despite that, managed to gather some of the supplies and get out with no fatalities. Realism is often praised in war, but a bit of optimism didn't hurt now and then, did it?"
