It had been a long night for Jin Kisaragi. He'd just completed his latest assignment, sent right from Jubei. Distract the NOL forces, so that Rachel would have an easier time extracting the mercenaries, as well as their own forces scattered through the area. A simple enough task.

However, his only way of escape was a portal left in the middle of the forest, and he had to ensure that he wasn't followed. The easiest way to do that was to hide himself with an ars, and sleep away the night in the forest.

The result was entirely unrestful sleep, along with plenty of dirt and other trappings from the forest. He certainly wasn't going to be winning any beauty contests as he was now.

However, it had payed off, he wasn't being followed any more. Sure, there was likely surveillance throughout the forest, but they didn't have the manpower to chase one fugitive throughout an entire seithr waste.

Reaching the portal, he tosses a useless glance over his shoulder. Hopefully, the witch would be aware of his presence close to one of her gates, and be ready to close it. He didn't want to have to chase her down. As he steps through the portal, he is immediately assaulted by the smell of roses.

"At least the cursed thing works..." He mumbles, muttering to himself.

The other side of the gate is already occupied by Rachel, who sits nearby on a garden bench, a black evening dress adorning her newly-grown body. "Mr. Kisaragi." she greets with an inclined head. "I am glad you have returned. Did you encounter much trouble during your return?"

A slim books rests in her hands: Der Erlking. She closes it and sets it aside, as she glances Jin over. "I have set aside quarters for you. Gii will guide you to them when you are ready to retire."

Jin needs a second to recognize Rachel, but once he does, he smirks a bit. Although, the offer of a room was quite enticing, almost enough to prevent him from commenting on the change. He just slept, but he still felt worn out. Perhaps a shower and a change of clothes would be enough.

"Well. Did something important happen while I was away? I'm curious, what prompted the change?"

Getting back to the matter at hand, he shakes his head.

"Unfortunately, my presence didn't seem to distract many powerful people. My wounds are minimal, more the result of traveling quickly through a forest than soldiers who could barely touch me. Was your end of the mission a success?"

Rachel releases a tiny exhale. "There was a great deal of work to be done, and my younger body binds away a portion of my reserves - I found them necessary for the strain of my role. Transporting three teams and their respective building inventories, along with engaging whatever hostile forces were present each time . . . it was an arduous experience."

She shrugs and waves for Jin to follow her as she stands. "They are all successfully extracted, but they are all, more or less, mundanes. I don't believe they'll be making much difference over time. Most are injured already."

Jin walks along with Rachel, he has little better to do. He needs to get briefed, besides a short message relayed through Jubei, he is woefully distanced from current events.

"Hmm. Well, we could always use cannon fodder, if it comes down to it. Are you sure you gained nothing of value? Losing that much energy on wasted effort can be nothing but failure."

"We have Shishigami for that." Rachel replies idly. "And, as terrifying a concept as it might be, he is actually less annoying."

She flicks a glance over to Jin. "Really. And here you are, fresh from . . . failure, was that the word you used? . . . at distracting worthwhile opponents. And now you are rank. My, at least I didn't come back unwashed."

A faint smile threatens the corners of Rachel's mouth - she'd never admit it, but the verbal sparring is pleasant. She opens the mansion doors with a wave of her hands and leads Jin towards the kitchens.

"I apologize for that. I haven't exactly had time to take a leisurely bath, training in the wilderness tends to leave little time for that. And you could hardly call it my fault that I was designated a low-priority target. I might almost feel insulted at the Library, if they don't change that opinion soon."

Following Rachel into the kitchen, he raises an eyebrow at the vampire.

"I can hardly believe that you're being so hospitable. The only time we've truly met, aside from the fight with...Mu...you attacked me. Such a sudden change of treatment is odd, even coming from you."

Jin cracks his neck, resulting in a rather loud sound.

"After all, I had to waste the first week of training dealing with...whatever your butler did to me. That was certainly a pleasant experience, you can be sure."

Rachel shrugs. "Being in that eternally pubescent form was unpleasant." she answers honestly. "Returning to my natural body is relieving as you would not understand."

The kitchen opens around them, and Rachel takes a seat, gesturing towards the eternally-filled counter of food (courtesy of the enchanted kitchen) as she takes a seat. "As for that beating? You deserved it."

Taking out some food, Jin sets himself to work. He was nowhere near as skilled at cooking as his brother was, but being a soldier meant you picked up some basic skills, cooking included.

"I'm not going to attempt to deny that. Frankly, I'm just glad you didn't smear me into a paste. Though, I'm sure that would have left a rather unpleasant smell in your rose garden."

Growing slightly more serious, Jin scowls down at the food, as if willing it to finish faster.

"Has anything changed while I was gone, Rachel? Are we any closer to being able to stop Terumi?"

Rachel considers.

"I believe so." she murmurs. "Quite by accident, it seems the thirteenth Murakumo - or Nu, as everyone seems to insist on calling her - has absorbed the Wadatsumi Cauldron as a result of her imprisonment and subsequent release. She is now even more potent than battle than I. She may even be able to hold her own against Jubei, at this point."
