The Snakemelon These Eudicots live in Australia's Northeast, east, and Southeast forests where they form trees with fruit about as large as a human fist. These fruits fall and usually are picked off by Anurognathids, mammals, and dinosaurs but for those who hunt it while it is still connected to the tree they fly or climb with caution. Cyan headed overkillers have adapted to be the same color as the fruit so their prey comes to them rather than try to pursue them. Three snakes can tolerate each other if the tree is large enough. The leaves are light green with a lighter green underside and are made of three points with serrations. The trees themselves are short and thus make up part of the understory within the forests. The fruit is cyan with dark blue stripes and is named for the melon shape and the snake that calls the tree home. Scientists studied the fruit and found that when off the tree, it darkens and becomes sour like a lemon. But if fresh, its sweet and tastes similar to a mango. |
