Good Citizen Classes at shows?

How commonly are Good Citizen classes scheduled at Breed Club shows? The North of Scotland SBT club schedule them at open and limited shows, we haven't tried them at Championship shows as yet. There seems to be a lack of understanding that these classes are judged to the breed standard the same as any other class but the entrants must have "qualified" by passing at least at bronze level. I have had complaints in the past that the class exhibits in the good citizen class have not been given the same credence at Crufts as in the breed classes much to the distaste of the exhibitors some of whom have been in the class with champions! I wonder if the good citizen scheme has been promoted in the right way in the show world? Thoughts would be welcome

I have judged Good Citizen classes at Crufts. I did judge them as a breed class, however, you are right, it's like they are an after thought. Perhaps putting them on after Open creates this impression, the Open class being traditionally the last 'serious' class of the sex.

Maybe with more feedback a proposal to the KC could be made. I do think you are correct the tag on after open does it no favours.

totally agree with you there Julie,, tagged on and thought of a micky mouse class gggrrrr

I tend to enter them if scheduled regardless of if I have entered another class or not ,,

three things stick in my mind,

1) Kaos goes into a G,C stakes Class at Leeds champ show,, first time I had entered the gc stakes,, counted 39 dogs in the ring,, CH this CH that, all breeds bigs uns , small uns,, fluffys, smooths etc we got first wow won fifty quid -- the new dog igloo bed still going strong. enters our breed class later on ,, 11 dogs -- binned lol,, still humours me to this day ,

2) entered Windsor champ show the year after Kaos gained her stud book number at the same show by a 2nd in limit,, so this time only entered her in gc , what happened ?? goes in for class only entry , so by default in the line up,, took my place in order ,, limit, open , G.C,
steward "fingers"me follow me madam,, and moved me down to the corner ,, next to minor puppy lol ,, when asked why ,, he replied only doing what Ive been told,,
ignored completely by the judge,, later on bumped into judge on the field --- oh he told me didnt know what I was talking about , lol mmmmm pull the other one ,,

3) Birmingham,, hell on after the dog g.c. class -- judge told exibitors,, "I'll give first to you because the other dog already has its gold " mmmm ,
Kaos goes in for bitch G.c, a few entries ,, judge chatting away to them all asking lots of questions about what they do with their dogs in relation to whether they visit homes, schools etc,, asking if they have bronze silver gold, got to me and I told him that is not relevant, he must judge to breed standard and place accordingly , oo,, he said Im just intereested,, love to hear theses stories,
when about to place he told us all -- something abiut dont worry about placings do things a bit different eh ??
any ways Kaos got first,, so beside open bitch in line up -- me !!! determined gona stand my corner and not be shaffted lol

when judge made his decision for the cc he said to me -- watch this ,, really going to upsett the applecart ,, me I was utterlly tottaly flabbergasted.

all judges need to understand that the class if scheduled is no different that bred by ex, etc and judge the dogs in the class to breed standsrd
