Just recieved from the KC Following a recommendation by the Dog Health Group, the General Committee of the Kennel Club has agreed that the Chinese Crested should be removed from its list of high profile breeds with immediate effect. The breed was added to the list in 2010, in light of welfare concerns about the shaving of some dogs for exhibition. The General Committee is satisfied that this issue is no longer of sufficient concern for the breed to remain on the HPB list. Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Communications Director said: “The significant drop in the number of reports received by the Kennel Club is a welcome indicator that high-profile breed categorisation has been beneficial to breed welfare in Chinese Cresteds. “The Kennel Club hopes that this decision will pave the way for further breeds to be considered to have undergone sufficient improvement to enable them to be removed from the list in due course.” The requirement for judges to report back on exhibits of the breed will remain in place for a period of three years, though this will be reviewed after two years. Both Chinese Crested breed clubs were notified of this decision in writing ahead of this announcement. |

Lets hope this is the way forward and more breeds will be taken off the KC hit list! I wonder what number have to pass vet checks consistently before coming off the list? |
