Need to get this section of the forum busy! After next week I will have much more time to discuss various topics. Does anyone have any queries regarding any of the exercises? Or how did you tackle the difficult exercises? What worked for you and your dog? There are many successful ways to train a dog or perhaps should we train the handler LOL |

The training classes I attended always said that they didn't train the dog, they trained the owner to train their dog! I found it easier to use words that my dogs knew already for certain exercises - one dog for example I could drop into a sit anywhere in hearing distance so for the stop I just told him to sit and he did! I also train mine not to eat their meals until I give the command eat so that came in handy for food manners. The hands on bit is easy enough for show dogs anyway as they are used to it. Mine being Whippets I was allowed to use a blanket for the send to bed exercise but one of mine went into their cage (the examiner didn't mind!) and whilst he was there we got a cuppa and he passed the relaxed isolation as he was asleep. I had to go and wake him up for the next exercise!! |

Consistancy is the biggest help to training and yes its the owners that need the training most of the time - the dogs just aim to please ;) |
