Skorr's Big Game Hunt

The heart of night dominated the arena. Nothing escaped its spell and nothing avoided its notice. It concealed the competitors in its shadowy cloak, offering them protection, but with no guarantee of shielding them from others who used it to disguise their movements. The night was the ultimate backstabber. Just like one noteworthy Zeverek who was now striding casually through this island death maze, confidence radiating from every step he took.

Skorr chuckled to himself as he wandered alongside the great river that flowed through the heart of the River. Whilst he did not particularly like the idea of him being forced to compete in this death game (especially without a salary), he had settled to try and enjoy himself as much as he could. After all, a little bit of galactic publicity on the universe's favourite reality death-match programme could do wonders for his reputation when he won. Skorr had heard the announcements. He had heard of some of his competition. All of them were powerful, dangerous and of high repute. But that's exactly how Skorr liked to play these sort of games: with very high stakes.

Sure, there was a chance he could be killed, but when had that ever been a serious problem? 100,000 years of hardcore bounty hunting and still going strong. That wasn't a claim every brainless killer could back up. Skorr caressed his new weapon affectionately; a handcrafted sniper rifle of Xian origin. Skorr had heard the legends of the Xian Javelin but had never expected it to wind up in his hands. In someone else's hands, the kickback alone could take out its users. In Skorr's expert hands, it was an unstoppable death machine.

It was all so deliciously murderous.

Still, Skorr wasn't stupid enough to believe he was a guaranteed winner. By the time he crossed paths with his newfound enemies, he would be nothing less than a cold-blooded killer. His wit would still be there, but he would not allow arrogance to get the better of him. He needed to be smart, but until he made his first kill, he could enjoy himself. Although the lack of payment was more than a little irksome, the chance to hone his fighting skills would satisfy him for now. A one-of-kind weapon, a veteran bounty hunter, a big game hunt and one big 'round-the-clock brawl. What wasn't to love?

Pausing for a moment, Skorr stopped to decide his next move. Where should he go? The Amphitheatre, the Cliffs, the Lava Flows? So many places, so little time. Hopefully, the competition there would be better opposition than the beasts and natural predators that had tried to take him out in the wilderness. So, without a clear idea of where he was going, Skorr pressed on down the river, determined to follow its course until it offered him a fool worthy of death.

Beware you dull-minded fold, he thought with a grin on his face. There is a new player in the game.
