Ix Gamemaster

The rain continued to drizzle down from the cloudy skies over the island arena, visible to Technician Xavar Krel from the large viewscreens at the heart of the Gamemaster’s program headquarters. In the distance a storm was brewing. Oh, it would likely beat around the island for a time- the heavy auric shields the Ix had set up over the island would see to that- but Xavar was sure the Gamemaster would one day decide to let the storms in.

Then it would be Xavar’s job to obey him, to make the game more enjoyable for the thousands of Ix watching, betting on the various competitors that were dropping one by one in the claustrohophic enclosure that was the Vortixx island. So far the games had ben enjoyable, Krel thought, but they were still in their early stages. While the violence had been brilliantly admirable so far, Xavar, an old hand at these Eternal Games, knew that it couldn’t possibly compare to the level of excitement reached when the playing field shrank to a handful of competitors.

These games were run by only a small number of people, but their significance to the Ix Empire was great. Xavar knew he, and those who worked on these games with him, were the unsung heroes of the Empire. The greatness of their program knew no bounds.

The Program, Xavar thought. I’ve got a few surprises of my own to dish out today.

The Ix watchers and betters always relished surprises. And it was Xavar’s chance now to spring one on the competitors before their numbers dwindled further. At 46, the greater portion of the competitors still remained alive.

But not for much longer, Xavar thought. It was his duty to prepare and, when the Gamemaster authorized it, release the many surprises he’d sealed away within this massive complex that served as the Program headquarters.

His surprise would give the competitors something to fear. Rising to his feet, he walked over to where two other Technicians were waiting. Both looked at him in askance.

“The Gamemaster has authorized the release of the Tahtorak,” he said. “Ensure it reaches the lava flows are a safely.”
The two Technicians gave brief nods, then spun about to do their tasks. Xavar kept his outward expressions cold and emotionless, but inwardly he smiled.

It was done.

----

“Goooooood morning, contestants!” The Gamemaster called out over the island. “It’s been far too long, and I’ve found myself missing you. It’s the beginning of day three, and only 46 of you remain. That means- basic math lesson, people- two of your fellow competitors have perished in the last twelve hours.”

The Gamemaster was silent for a time, then he spoke again. “Well, I’d best kill the suspense early. The unfortunate duo were N036: Evuk and N042: Q3-000. I for one don’t feel particularly sorry for them, but I’m sure someone somewhere cares. Or maybe…well, not.

“Anyway, moving on, I’ve found the way these Danger Zones to have worked before to be awfully boring, haven’t you? Well, no longer. Now listen carefully. For exactly half the next twelve hours, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the Northern Woods and the Inland Woods will be danger zones. Then, from 12:00 PM until 8:00- which is not another half, again, basic math, but who cares- the Inland Woods will be freed but the Eastern Shore will become a danger zone.

“Well, that’s all. Listen closely tonight for another modification to the Danger Zones, and one more thing: I’d avoid the Lava Flows as well if I were you.”

The Gamemaster switched off the PA system and grinned. Then he reclined back in his armchair lazily to watch the fun.

OOC Stuff:

So, like…inactivity. We really need some people to get more active. This wouldn’t be a problem if said people had entered only one, but these people often have four or five characters. We really need said people to get posting, because certain characters are running way behind the rest right at the moment.

You know who you are. I’d say only two posts an in-game day is the bare minimum to stay active, but I’d like to see at least a little more activity at this point.

Please post, people. We need you.

Anyway, rolls. I’ve got three:

N001: Tabaris N049: Solarus (CeziuM_, Hero Card used)
N046: Nalek
N053: Apex N057: Empress (21bub21, Swap Card used)

Anyway, that’s all for a week. I’ll be seeing you next week with a special announcement if some people don’t get caught up in-game this week. Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor! :D

I'm glad none of my characters are in the Lava Flows at the moment. But I feel the Tahtorak is only the beginning of the surprises the Ix have in store.
I'm also getting increasingly nervous as each new set of rolls is posted. :'(

I'm not sure whether to feel bad for the Tahtorak or Nozev....
All things considered, I'd shift my sympathies to the Tahtorak.

Thirty-five international credits say Nozev survives an encounter with the said beast.
