The Atlanta Falcons announced today that Falcons defensive end Patrick Kerney will have season-ending surgery after suffering a pectoral injury in last week's game against the Browns.

Kerney, 6-5, 273 pounds, was injured in the second quarter when he tackled TE Steve Heiden on an eight-yard pass from QB Charlie Batch. The stop forced a 3rd and 2 situation, which the Browns did not convert, to force a punt. Kerney, who is an eight-year veteran Pro Bowler, had tallied 19 tackles, two forced fumbles, two passes defensed and a team-high five sacks.

Last week's game marked Kerney's 105th consecutive start, a streak dating back to 1999 that ranks third in Falcons history behind Bob Whitefield (122) and Jeff Van Note (1970-84). Kerney earned Pro Bowl honors in 2004 after recording a career-high 13 sacks.

charlie batch? charlie frye. :P ;)

but this is a big blow to the team, hopefully he will be back and ready to play next year, and hopefully he will resign to a reasonable salary and retire a falcon.

get well soon PK.

Yeah, about PK, that hurt, man. I love the way that guy plays the game. He gets knocked for not being able to effect the left side without a superstar at RE, but the guy has impeccable work ethic, attitude, and a motor that will never quit. I would love to see them sign him to an extension that lets him retire a Falcon. He deserves it.
