Staff Guide and Forum Rules
Updated as of February 23, 2012

Administrators
Admins are the highest authority on the forum and leaders of the overall staff team. They specialize in background and technical work, working to improve the forum from behind the scenes, and will have the final say-so in disputes if they are required. If you have any technical issues to report, make a topic in the Feedback Forum, and they will be sure to review it. They have orange names on the forum

Global Moderators
Global Moderators are assigned to deal with more common issues a forum experiences, like member disputes, enforcing the rules, and general maintenance of the overall community. They have moderator powers across all boards, and can suspend or ban members, among other things. If you have a problem with someone on the forum, a mod is a person you can trust to help you out. They have green names on the forum

Organizers
Organizers are assigned to host and organize a variety of social events for your enjoyment on the site, such as video game tournaments or chatroom gatherings. They have the same powers and authority as a Global Moderator, and should be treated as such. If you would like to see a particular type of game or event come up, an organizer can help you out. They have purple names on the forum

Chat Moderators
Chat moderators are in charge of maintaining the chatroom; they have the same responsibilities as a Global Moderator would, only in the chat as opposed to the forum. They have the power to delete chat posts, kick and ban people from the chat, but if they are only a chat mod, they do not have the same powers on the forum. They do not have special coloured names on the forum (as of now)

Forum Rules

1. Be civil and polite to all members: It's important to be respectful not just to staff members, but to other members as well. Please refrain from flamebaiting or trolling in order to get a rise out of people. An added caution: be aware of the context of a situation, as joking and sarcasm are mainstays of the internet

2. Please follow basic forum etiquette: There are several rules concerning this

  • Do not post in a very old topic unless you have something meaningful to add to the conversation. This is called "bumping" or "necroposting". If you do not see a topic that has been made recently about what you wish to talk about, feel free to make a new topic
  • Refrain from double/triple/multiple posting. This is posting multiple times in a row, it inflates post count and it's disruptive. If you would like to add to a point you just made, please use the Edit button
  • Post meaningfully. If you make a post, make it contribute towards the discussion. Spam is very much discouraged
  • When making a topic, ensure the topic title is indicative of what will be discussed in the topic
  • Please write legibly. This is not a hard rule, and we don't expect you to be a master of the English language, but first impressions count for a lot, and at the least we want to understand you
  • Refrain from backseat modding. We are qualified to handle it. If you see something amiss, send a report or a PM to a member of staff, and they will work on it ASAP

3. Do not link to illegal content: This goes for ROMs and the like. It will be deleted if we catch it

4. Do not link to explicit and/or offensive content without warning: If you are going to link to something especially explicit, violent, or bloody, we expect you to provide at least some warning as to what it is and how severe it is. We do have young users on the forum, so if you want to share something like that on the forum, give us some indication. "NSFW" (Not Suitable For Work) is a good idea

5. Do not use alternate accounts: All users are entitled to one account. If you forget the password to your account, please utilize the Forgotten Password system. Contact an admin to help you if you're still having problems. If we know someone of having alt accounts, we will likely act swiftly on it

6. Do not share your password with anyone: A member of staff will never ask for your password. Please take precautions to ensure no one will get your password

7. Please respect the staff team: They are volunteers who work hard during their free time to make your experience enjoyable. If you feel a member of staff has treated you unfairly or harshly, contact an administrator or other member of staff, and they will investigate the matter
