The whole pokemon franchise has quite a lot of oddities, but Black and White has some of the most disturbing new pokemon to be introduced. Such as Yamask: If the picture doesn't show, it's basically a shadow with red eyes that looks vaguely like it's crying, holding a mask in its tail. The disturbing part comes from its pokedex entries: "Each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human. Sometimes they look at it and cry. These Pokémon arose from the spirits of people interred in graves in past ages. Each retains memories of its former life." So this is a pokemon that used to be human- which raises questions by itself, such as using dead people to fight for you and having them contained in a pokeball for the rest of their afterlife- but not only that, it's stated they retain their memories of being human, carry around their faces from when they were alive, and they just look at their former face and cry. If there was any doubt that pokemon was being aimed towards an older audience, then this is it. |

One oddity that may not be noticed by the casual player, as it only happens once every few times you travel through the area, is the ghost on the bridge. To see it, simply enter the Marvelous Bridge a couple of times on the eastern end, and you'll soon see a little girl stood next to a man that's always there. Approach her, and she will vanish before your eyes- talking to the man she was with will just get a quote of 'did you see that? she just disappeared!'. If you then go back into the gate before the bridge, and speak to the old woman in there then she will mention a girl that used to play with her Abra before the bridge was built. As such there's varying theories as to whether she's a ghost of that little girl (as she hasn't aged) which raises unfortunate implications of Abra teleporting her off, or the more likely version that it's just the same girl with her Abra teleporting away every time you come near. Here's the video: So far it's unknown if there's any reason for her being there, from what I've seen many have suggested going to her with an Abra in the party but no word on if it does anything. It could be part of an event that hasn't been released yet, or it could just be a random oddity that the makers threw in because they could, like the similar ghosts in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. |
