So, you want to learn how to roleplay, eh? Well, you've come to the right place. First, though, you need to grasp the general rules. I call them the big three.
1) No God-Modding
2) No Mini-Posting
3) Obey the Rp's Founder
One is the most important. God-Modding means to make your character 'OP'. An example of this would be:
Quote:

Joseph got his hands cut off. "Argh!" he yelled. He only had one shot left... He spit on his opponent, his spit impacting the opponent so hard that the opponent was knocked unconcious.

Now, even the most experienced rpers God-Mod sometimes. Its okay. Its only bad when done excessively. Another example, and this one is EXTREMELY bad, is to take control of another person's character.
Quote:

Joseph cut off Alice's hands

Now, Alice doesn't have a chance to 'dodge' the hit. How would you feel if someone did that to your character?

Mini-Posting, in my definition, is a post less than three sentences. Its OK to Mini-Post, just not excessively.

Now that you understand the rules, lets go into what is a good post and what is not.

Quote:

Phil walked into the barn. He used the bottle he picked up on his way in to hit something. He had sensed it moving, and was scared, so he had relied on instinct.

or
Quote:

Phil walked into the barn, unaware of the danger inside. He bent down and picked up a glass bottle that was lying on the hay-covered floor. He had felt something else in the barn... Something evil. Suddenly, his instincts told him to throw the bottle! He threw it, hoping that the outcome of his rash decision would be good.

The second one's better, right? You may not realize it, but when you post, the first one is what it looks like. Everybody does it unconciously. It is the job of a good rper to ingrain it in their head that DETAIL IS KING. DETAIL IS KING. DETAIL IS KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got it? Detail overthrew King Cotton during the Reconstruction.
Now, a good way to do this is to keep pronouns down, and also re-read you post. Since you've learned that, I'll tell you a secret... Quantity is quality, to an extent. Of course, if you've ever done a 1000 sentence post (I have. It's possible.) you'll disagree. But I said to an extent. If you try to do 100 sentences, you'll soon run out of material to write. What do you do then, if you really want to make it to 100? You go back and add sentences that are all about detail. It works.

That's all for this chapter. In the next chapter, you'll learn about the 'roll' command, and how you use it to attack on this site. You'll also learn about 'levels.' After that, in Chapter 3, you'll learn about 'attributes.'
