Same thoughts as both of you. Anyways, item is called the orb of inversion. It can be used at any point up until the final 4, at which point it becomes useless. |

Oh, so not usable when rebel is the better power?bThat's a shame. Though ideally we'll win Rebel this week so it'll get used up before the F4 anyway. Does anyone think they can get a Scorpio to throw it for them? Scorpio shouldn't be expecting that throwing a rebel comp to help a friend on Gemini would cause one of their own to be at risk of elimination. |

Week 34 Rebel Challenge: 5 Degrees of Epic Struggle For this challenge you will be tasked with linking pairs of Wikipedia articles to each other in as few steps as possible. Your path must only contain other Wikipedia articles that have a link to them in the previous article of the chain. For example, if one of the paths you had to make was: START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Stalin Your answer could be Apple, religious, atheists, moral nihilism, Joseph Stalin. 1. For your submission, just include the chain as a list of words as they appear in the link. For conveyance sake, please do not use the titles of the articles themselves. For example, the actual article on Wikipedia is "atheism," but it is the word "atheists" that links to it. 2. Excluding the start and end points, you will receive 1 point for every article in your chain. 3. If you cannot find a path for a pair of articles, you will receive a penalty of 100 points. 4. If your path is unique among all players, you will lose 5 points. It is possible to receive a score of less than 0. 5. The start and end points cannot be swapped. 6.. Do not edit the articles. Suspicious answers will be investigated, and cheaters will be eliminated. 7. The player with the fewest points will be the Drunken Rebel. You will have 10 pairs to connect. 1. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayo END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machete 2. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Et_tu,_Brute%3F 3. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiac END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebony_and_Ivory 4. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epona END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocobo 5. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweden 6. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waffle_House END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quit_(band) 7. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Winner_(novel) 8. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rest END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PISCES 9. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminati END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_intoxication 10. START: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Host END: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Error You will have 48 hours to PM me your submissions. Deadline: http://goo.gl/qbCX2k I think this is the sort of thing Gemini can win, especially if we keep Scorpio feeling like there's no reason they have to try. |

We should keep in mind this rule: "4. If your path is unique among all players, you will lose 5 points. It is possible to receive a score of less than 0." So only one person should submit our best paths and we might want a backup person or two to submit other paths because we don't want Scorpio winning because they get bunches of 5 points off while destroying our own ability to get 5 points on some of them. |

With the way Coc answers sometimes, I wouldn't be surprised if he purposefully found a chain 101 articles long for one of them just so that he would score worse than Swift. |

I've confirmed there are no length-2 paths for the first pair and got frustrated with looking for length-3 pairs, so here's a length-4 pair. Please improve it to length-3 if you can. start on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayo click on "Mayo Kagura" and it redirects to 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_My-HiME_characters 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunai 3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knife 4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machete Btw, Link asked me if I'm using a program to do this or doing it manually. I told him neither, since Gemini is doomed this week regardless. So as far as non-Gemini know, I'm not helping this week. >_> Oh, and if you can get a program to do most of the rest of the work, then awesome. I tried 2-3 programs but they didn't really work, so I just went back to manual. Edited by Dreamwalker, Feb 25 2015, 08:33 PM.

The fourth one: Start. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epona 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epona_%28The_Legend_of_Zelda%29 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Animal_characters_in_video_games 3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocobo If Mayo allows Category links. I'll have to ask. Otherwise, my intuition would be to go for a particular Zelda game on the SNES and then maybe to SNES itself and hope that the most popular games are there and include a Final Fantasy game. Or something along those lines. |

Eighth one.. I thought I had a nice one for getting Pisces the zodiac sign, but notice the article Mayo wanted is something harder to reach. And apparently Wikipedians don't like Pakistan because you can't reach it directly from pages like Earth or United States. Start. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rest 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rest,_Kansas 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States 3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_and_dependencies_by_area 4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan 5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Investigation_Agency 6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PISCES I hope you guys can find something better. >_> Btw, if you want to vary it up I'm sure there are other length-2 paths between United States and Pakistan. |

Most useful thing Link has ever done. I'd love to see his reaction after Kirby uses that Orb of Inversion. (We'll want to double-check that they work, of course. But I'm too tired to do that right now. It's 5am and I need to go to sleep so I can wake up at noon or so. >_>) Edited by Dreamwalker, Feb 26 2015, 06:08 AM.

Oh, and according to what Mayo said about categories, my #4 works. Actually, I specifically sent that #4 and asked Mayo if it would work and he said yes. So that's 3-long instead of 4-long and so it beats Link's program. I guess he didn't have categories enabled as an option. |

This could go pretty wrong, if either a) Link is setting you up or b) Scorpio happens to use the same website. I think we should create alternate versions of all of them, just in case. Even if they are longer. |

Question about this orb thingie: in case we can pull it off, does it mean auron can or can't participate in the next Overlord challenge? Because if not we may want to keep him alive. |

Keep him alive? He'd be Rebel anyway, so presumably Gemini would nominate Auron and either Swift or Coc, then Auron would save himself with the Rebel power, then Gemini would nominate Coc or Swift as the replacement. Gemini can't get out Auron even if you guys want to. I suspect since the roles are switched that the Gemini who wins Rebel and becomes Overlord will be the one sitting out of the next comp, but based on the quicktopic Kirby linked it looks like Machete made the item, so he might not even be around for clarification anymore. Hopefully Mayo knows for sure who's supposed to be sitting out. |

So does everyone know what everyone is sending? We wouldn't want 2 people to accidentally say the same things and lose a bunch of points. Since Choco got that PM from Link, we can troll Link the hardest by having Choco use those answers (except maybe use my #4 instead of Link's #4) and then have some other Gemini (maybe Cody, since he did some manual work on this) take Link's #4 plus a bunch of our manual work or modifications we can find of the good solutions. I don't know if there's a point in having a 3rd or 4th person submit - that might be more work than it's worth to you guys - but definitely have at least 2 submit. Edit: Actually, if we want to troll Link the best then Choco, Cody, and Kirby all have to submit. I think he'll believe Baruch (having not been nominated) might not bother to submit, but he'd definitely expect both nominees to submit and also Cody to submit since Cody is Cody. Mayo actually made the item, Machete just hid it. And he actually PM'd me telling me (before I asked him) clarifying that portion about its use. Neither the original or the new overlord will sit out of next round's competition. I'll put something together to submit when I get the chance. If anyone around here wants to use any of the chains listed here, then they should claim them. Anything unclaimed when I have free time tomorrow to do this might get taken by me. |

Choco, Kirby, and I should all definitely send something different. Baruch too if he has time, although us 3 for sure. The more good answers we submit, the less chance of someone from Scorpio stealing the win. Choco got Link's PM, so he should send that, along with the improved #4 and any other improvements. Kirby and I can pick from the other chains in this topic, or find a few more if need be. Everyone should definitely confirm their submissions in this topic before the deadline so we don't overlap. |

Indeed. This is what I was going for with my post asking what everyone is sending. Since Kirby seems to have taken the path of saying "I'll take things other people haven't taken", I guess that means we can assume Choco is taking Link 1-3,5-10 and Dream 4. Cody should list what he's taking and then Kirby should just take stuff that's not what Choco or Cody took. It would be nice to see an actual list written out with everyone in one post and formatted well, but I'm a bit too lazy to compile that atm. >_> |

Well we know what Choco's submitting, so he just has to confirm. Sometime before the deadline (hopefully sooner rather than later) I'll come up with my list and post it. If I'm feeling studious, I'll put together a 2nd list for Kirby as well (no promises). |

I didn't see an instance, but I'm confident many exist across Wikipedia. Sometimes when you're on an article about (this is just an example and I haven't checked it yet) world demographics and you click something that just says a country name it will bring you to a page about the demographics of that country instead of just that country. |

Working on it. Attention Choco, Dorking is hidden inside Articles Related to London > Government and Geography > London Commuter Belt. I'm basically using Link's tool by adding one of the articles inside Choco's answers in the Skip Articles field. Also the Page Source in FF is stupidly useful to find links hidden in the collapsed categories at the bottom. Edited by ArchangelBaruch, Feb 27 2015, 01:46 PM.

Compared to some other challenges (like 12 teams each with a google doc with hundreds of cells on it that had to be checked against other teams), this one actually won't take super-long to score. And if Scorpio ends up not even submitting, that will mean Mayo has only 4 (if all Gemini submit) to score. Submission deadline is in 15 minutes, btw, so hopefully everyone who wants to send has done so. |

Nominating Auron makes sense both to speed things up (so Auron doesn't need to wait for speeches to use his Rebel power) and to ensure Gemini doesn't have to be named as a replacement, even though technically we'd still have the votes to keep a Gemini safe.
