Zoids: Battle Legends.

What can I say?

How can I express exactly what it is that this means to me?

Well, when I was just a wee tyke, I loved the Zoids television show on Toonami (YET ANOTHER THING I'VE LOVED AND LOST :'( ) and one day when I was in my local Game Stop establishment, a picture of my all time favorite Zoid, the Liger Zero, caught my eye. And upon snatching up the case, I was exultant to discover a game, a game to end all games, the Zoids: Battle Legends, game.

And I nearly shat myself.

I purchased it with shaking fingers and a fluttering heart. Upon arrival to my abode, I bade a hasty farewell to my family members and locked myself into my own personal batcave, where I loaded up my Gamecube and with trembling fingers, placed the game in.

I was blown away.

The story mode isn't much, no real autonomy with your human characters, and you never really understand what the hell is going on (lol what?). The missions assigned in story mode are sometimes unclear, and difficult.

But it's the battle play that makes me nearly wet myself.

First, I think you'll need to understand what exactly a Zoid IS. Well, a Zoid is, for lack of a better word, something of an animatronic animal creature, weighing several tons, who can carry a human pilot in the cockpit (most often located in the Zoid's head) and can be made to do battle against other Zoids.

Okay, moving on. This game is magnificent. The graphics are superb, considering it was made by Atari (sorry), and that it's a Gamecube game. The battles are actually super difficult, so you actually feel a sense of accomplishment when you win, there is a nearly infinite supply of Zoids to pick from in tournament mode (unfortunately, you have to buy them) and the gameplay is great.

There are only a few minor problems. The targeting systems for the energy weapons (i.e. plasma cannons and such) is difficult to use, which can inhibit gameplay and take up a lot of additional weight. Also, physical attacks, such as the "master attack" (such as Liger Zero's Strike Laser Claw) are difficult to execute unless you are virtually next to the enemy, and cannot be stopped prematurely, but this is only really a problem if you have no effective weapons.

Also, the game is very accurate, as far as Zoids go. For example, a Gojulas, (a massive, ungainly, dinosaur type thing) is a nightmare to maneuver. You can't jump, can't run, can't really do anything, because it's so big. BUT, you're very difficult to kill, because you're so large. However, small Zoids, like the Rev Raptor (personal favorite for gameplay) are tiny in comparison, easily killed, but maneuverable as hell. When equipped with boosters, it can make incredible leaps and is so fast that it can attack and run, before it's hurt. The downside is, it's very ineffective against big Zoids. One hit, and you're toast.

Another minor issue is that some Zoids, notably the Blade Liger, are very popular because it's easy to win with them. They only need to activate their blades and run in a circle around you, and boom, you're dead. It's not really fair.

Also, can either be a perk or not, but the game, especially in tournament mode, gets ridiculously hard. The battles are against several of the same teams, but they get better and better, so it's hard to win. Personally this annoys me, but if you like a challenge, it's just the game for you.

This game is overall a magnificent game. There's hundreds of pilots to choose from, as well as a ton of Zoids. And as Zoids are based off of animals, you can pick a Zoid that IS your favorite animal. They're also customizable, with several colors, weapons choices, and options, like boosters and shields. This makes the game much more fun, because you can do practically anything. Also, there's about twelve maps to choose from for battles, with interactive landscapes, it's never boring.

Also, there's about a billion cheat codes that you could find, so it would be worth it.

I love this game, and I doubt anyone would disagree. :)

I had no idea what zoids was untill I saw your pics. The pics brought back sooooo many memories... I USED TO LOVE THIS SHOW!!! This sounds like a very customizable game with countless variations... and just my type of game. Not only would I get to relive my childhood... I'd get a challenge from it as well. :)
