I found this amazing little site that describes the classes and books used, plus some history on past professors. Everything from here on out will be copy and pasted to this site from http://www.harrypotterfanzone.com/?ID=info/classes in hopes of educating members and will in no way be copied. There, that should suffice for citing. Oh, on the ones where we have teachers I added that to it. Hogwarts Classes Ancient Runes: Teacher: unknown Textbook: Ancient Runes Made Easy Class Description: Students in this class practice interpreting and translating the magical significance of ancient runes. Arithmancy Teacher: Professor Vector Textbook: Numerology and Grammatical Class Description: Very few Hogwarts students take this complicated course. Those who take arithmancy consider themselves intelligent, and are willing to learn and take on the challenge of this complex study. Arithmancy is often considered boring, except by Hermione, who greatly enjoys this subject! Some of the work includes studying the magical art of numbers and equations, and very complicated number charts. Astronomy Teacher: Professor Sinistra Textbook: unknown Class Description: This class meets at midnight on top of the Astronomy tower, the tallest tower at Hogwarts. Some of the work includes essays that involve learning numerous facts about astronomy, filling in star charts, etc. Care of Magical Creatures Teacher: Hagrid Textbook: The Monster Book of Monsters Class Description: Care of Magical creatures involves the feeding, handling, and controlling of different magical creatures. With Hagrid as a teacher, you can always expect to meet dangerous and strange creatures, such as Blast-Ended Skrewts, and creatures that others consider dangerous, but Hagrid is able to tame, such as Thestrals, and Hippogriffs. With Hagrid in charge, many students consider the class to be full of excitement; others however, sometimes consider it dangerous, and too over-the-top. Charms Teacher: Professor Flitwick Textbook: The Standard Book of Spells Class Description: Many students think that Professor Flitwick makes Charms a very fun, exciting and interesting class. In this favorite Hogwarts class, students learn many entertaining and cool tricks to do with their wands. Defense Against the Dark Arts Teachers: Book 1: Professor Quirrell Book 2: Professor Lockhart Book 3: Professor Lupin Book 4: Professor Moody Book 5: Professor Umbridge Textbooks: The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection (used by Moody, and most likely Lupin as well) Defensive Magical Theory (used by Umbridge, who solely depended on this text throughout the year) Class Description: This class basically studies how to defend yourself against dark creatures and those who practice the Dark Arts. Many people think that the teacher is cursed. Divination Teachers: Books 3-5: Professor Trelawney Book 5: Firenze Textbook: Unfogging the Future Class Description: Although Professor Trelawney believes she possesses a rare gift of 'Seeing the future', many consider her predictions to be absolute rubbish. Trelawney's classroom is located in the North Tower of Hogwarts, and usually smells of burning incense. Being Firenze is a centaur, he has a very different outlook on the subject of Divination. He believes Divination is much more useful for predicting major changes and important events, rather than Trelawney who uses it to predict day-to-day events. Flying Lessons Teacher: Madam Hooch Textbook: none Class Description: Students immensely enjoy learning how to control their brooms, and how to swiftly fly through the air while maintaining control during Flying Lessons. Although Madam Hooch can be a bit strict, she does an excellent job of teaching her students how to fly. Herbology Teacher: Professor Sprout Textbook: One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi Class Description: Most students seem to enjoy this class and find it very informative. Professor Sprout does an outstanding job sharing her knowledge of magical plants with her students, in a fun, comforting atmosphere. History of Magic Invisible Cloak Teacher - Cade Browen Teacher: Professor Binns Textbook: A History of Magic Class Description: History of Magic is definitely not one of the most popular classes at Hogwarts. The class is often considered very boring, as Professor Binns' style of teacher consists mainly of boring lectures about various aspects of magical history. Muggle Studies Invisible Cloak Teacher: Anabelle Firidian Teacher: unknown Textbook: Home Life and Social Habits of British Muggles Class Description: This class studies the lifestyle and habits of Muggles. Students learn about Muggle technology, such as the importance of electricity in the Muggle world, along with important historical events. Potions Invisible Cloak Teacher: Andrew Flanagan Teacher: Professor Snape Textbooks: Magical Drafts and Potions, and One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi Class Description: Potions class is located in the dark, cold dungeons of Hogwarts. Professor Snape teaches the art of potion making by having his students memorize various ingredients and compositions of certain potions, prepare them, then walk around and criticize his students' work. Snape also assigns long and detailed essays on the properties of different potion ingredients. Transfiguration Invisible Cloak Teacher: Anastasia Rowan Teacher: Professor McGonagall Textbook: A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration, Intermediate Transfiguration, Advanced Transfiguration Class Description: Transfiguration is a very complex branch of magic, in which many Hogwarts students struggle in. Professor McGonagall is extremely talented in transfiguration, and reveals the secrets of this subject to her students by giving interesting lectures, and allowing students to have a practical session. |
