Skills and Attributes
Entourage Aldryd has picked three of the best City Watch as part of his personal guard. The names of the watchmen are Ser Gil Hayford, Ser Janys Bywater and Ser Carl Waters. Since being appointed Hand of the King, Aldryd has added the brothers Granos and Thanos Slynt to his retinue.
Hand of the King As Hand of the King, Aldryd Payne is the second most powerful man in Westeros. He is counted among the members of the small council and rules the Seven Kingdoms in the king's absence.
Psychological Profile Formerly the master of laws, Aldryd took sadistic pleasure in consigning criminals to death, the Wall or worse during his tenure. His cruelty behind closed doors has lead others to call him "the Hangman", a title he has apparently done everything in his power to earn. A thinly veiled sycophant, Aldryd is prepared to overlook "minor" discrepancies if the accused has the coin to spare. His loyalty to the King is born from reluctance to give up his office more than anything else, and to this end he does whatever he can to keep his seat, no matter how shameful. For all his misuse of power, Aldryd genuinely believes his actions have done the Seven Kingdoms justice. It is from lack of faith in others that he feels the law must be taken into his own hands. Corruption and paranoid has skewed his concept of right and wrong to where nobody can be trusted with power but himself, not even the King. Indeed, Aldryd is so warped in his perceptions that he keeps his personal guard with him at all times, believing there to be no one more worthy of their protection.
