To my dearest Brother, I have some grievous news from my monastery high in the mountains, while the world below does not bother us monks we still see and hear many occurrences from beyond our stone walls. Even as high to the northern mountains far from our home in Durram. I fear that our whole world will change soon. I am still sorry I had to leave you and our family for a more secluded life, but now I feel that it was required, and I still believe I felt called to leave, plus I would have had to join the military if I hadn’t, a fate I still wish you could have avoided as well. But this letter is not just about our lives, it is of great importance! You must take it whole hearted, for you are the only person I can trust outside of my order. You no doubt still know the tales we were told as children, the great captain who lead our ancestors to a new life abroad. You also remember the tale of the first cities being built, the ancient ruins that were scattered, an ancient civilization that we still don’t know much of even to this day. Have you ever wondered who those people were? What happened to them? Well after careful study of texts and relics… I believe I know the answer and many would not wish for me to tell you this, but I feel I must, for the entire world might be at stake. We know the names of these people are roughly translated to "Aluid", which means "different", but many in the historical world seem to commonly refer to these ancients as “The Precursors”. The Precursors disappeared from all known existence at the time as it seems the first records of the Old World, the name of which was the name of an ancient continent that was destroyed by fire and rock from the heavens long ago is now gone from our records. But it seems that the first occurrences of those early men seem to pop up around the time that the Precursor Race disappeared. Do you notice any coincidence, Brother? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Creation Even in this time, the oldest man to the youngest child knows the ancient tale of the creation of our world, Pateras, the Lord-Creator took rock from the heavens and molded it into a cube, he then used his feet and stomped out the valleys and hills formed around his feet, he called out for light and it came in the form of our nearest sun, Lux de caelo and he wished to light the other side of his world and took what had been left over in molding the world and threw it into the night sky, making the moon and all the pieces that fell off the moon were scattered and became the stars. Pateras sweat and his sweat formed the oceans and seas and after hard work making his world Pateras grew tired and decided to make those who would make the fine details of this new world, and so he created the controllers of the elements of the world, Ignus, who controlled fire and destruction, Lympha, ruler of waters and storms, Terram, controller of the earth and plants, Ventus, holder of the eight winds and storms, and finally, Bestia, holder of the silver thread of life, who would control the future creatures of the oceans and the beasts of the fields. And when all had been made and the workers jobs had been given Pateras slept. Thus was the creation of our world and the creation of the elemental gods. Pateras slept for a great time, time enough for the workers jobs to have been completed; Ignus had helped form the minerals of the earth, Lympha had aligned the tides to match the moon making her job easier, Terram created the plant life to grow all over his world, Ventus blew cold air north and south and formed ice and blew hot air east and west which formed the tropical areas, and Bestia, the youngest and most naïve, made many creatures to roam the world his brothers and sister had finished. With their jobs completed and their father gone into deep sleep the demi-gods became bored, and after much descusion they decided to create their own life, so Terram took earth and sand and formed a shell to resemble himself, Lympha took water from the sister oceans and put it inside the hollow shell forming blood, Ignus used fire and a special mineral to create magnificent bones, Ventus blew air into the shells new formed lungs and Bestia made the final organ of most importance, the brain, and placed it in the shell, he then placed life into the shell and together, the gods named their creation Aluid, which mean different With the aluid now formed the world their father-god had created and the world they had worked so hard on now had a purpose. The fire of exploration and adventure from Ignus burned in the aluid’s heart and eyes. The blood from Lympha pumped through the body that Terram had formed, the winds from Vestus caught up the aluid and their creation spread all over the world and the life that Bestia had given coursed through aluid’s mind. These were the first men, those who wandered a new, unexplored world with no fear, who made food from the animals and plants, who learned new medicines from the blood and who sailed across the seas and lakes and rivers, who built structures of wood and stone and glass, and who honored and worshiped their god creators, not realizing their true creator was fast asleep. Thus is the beginning of the Aluid race. Everything seemed to be going fine, Aluids and gods worked together and the aluids multiplied and made many magnificent and amazing things. But such a utopia could not last forever, for the fire of man was unquenchable, always aspiring to more, always aspiring to greater, and always multiplying and expanding. Ignus, the god of fire saw the aluid race grow and multiply and take more and more of the world that they had worked to maintain, and he became jealous of them, so he went to his brothers and sister and said, “Look, this race we have created has become greedy and overwhelming. They have turned from us, their creators and have stolen this world from us! Come, let us strike them down, take back our world, and begin anew!” They agreed for the aluids had tainted Lympha’s waters with debris, and they had moved much of Terrams earth to make way for their cities, and they polluted Ventus’ air with smog and had killed much of the animals that Bestia had created. All of these things were minor, but the true greed, jealousy, and corruption of the god’s burned against their creations was shown and the gods waged war on their creation. Thus was the beginning of the Aluid-god War. Aluid-god War The gods, with their uncontrolled powers attacked first, striking Aluid cities on the coast with powerful waves, and cities on the hills and mountains were swept away by driving winds and cities on the parries were destroyed by fire or swallowed up by great ravines. Truly the gods seemed to be unbeatable and they fought against the Aluids, but the Aluids fought back as well, rather sacrificing themselves for their families and cities and nations then accepting defeat, until only a handful or Aluids remained, it was at this point, when all hope seemed lost that the youngest, yet wisest of the gods, Bestia, felt pity for his creations, for he had breathed life into them and journeyed to wake his father-god, Pateras. But his brothers and sister gods found out about his turn and caught Bestia in a trap and killed him by tearing him in quarters, one piece for each god, but they were too late, for their father had finally woken because of Bestia and seeing how his children had treated the world he created and all in it, and seeing the death of his most favored child (for he had given Bestia the gift of life) his anger and rage burned against his rebellious children, but instead of striking them down himself, feeling pity for them, for he could not bear to lose all five of his children at once gave upon their creation, the aluid, a tool to defeat their god-enemies; the knowledge of how to completely defeat the gods and lock them away, as a punishment for their crimes. The Aluids readily accepted this great honor and the wisest elder and elder took it upon himself to catalog the words of the father god into writing. A single book was written, and given to the elders of the Aluid Kingdom for decipher for the old hermit had died and could not explain further. Before his death the hermit said there was one part that he could not finish with the book, one vital piece of information that the book did not contain, that he would die with. The stories say that upon the second of the hermits death a bright light shown out from the hermits mountaintop home, a light so bright it was seem for miles around. When guards can to investigate all they found was the book that the Hermit had invested his entire life and soul into, no body, no answers, just the book. The minor-gods realized what their father had done and thought to try to defeat the aluids before their complete realization of how to use their weapon, to crush them and destroy the weapon forever. But the aluids was not willing to let that happen, so they locked the diamond gates of their costal capital city and made the decision to fight to the last to buy time for their elders to decipher the weapons uses and how to use it. A dark cloud formed overhead and a storm and winds and waters raged outside the cities walls, but the Aluids were not afraid, fire then began to rise up outside of the city, in all directions the earth was opening up or ablaze. Then the gods began their real assault. Terram easily knocked down the iron gates and outer walls, Lympha flooded the cities harbor and the lower sections, Vestus blew his breath over the city and knocked down buildings while his storm raged overhead, and Ignus melted away the weapons of the Aluids and burned much of the city except for the central tower, where the elders were “hiding”. The Aluids defeat seemed imminent and when the gods turned their attention to the tower, having destroyed the rest of the city they saw the king of the Aluids, standing on a great platform jutting out from the top of the tower, and he, the most fair and wisest and strongest of men had in his hands the book, written in the words of the dead elder, and opening the bonded cover began chanting the words that were written in it. He chanted as the last of his soldiers fought and died, while his people were being slaughtered, while his whole nation was being destroyed, without fear. As the king of the aluids chanted the sky became darker and the clouds swirled overhead. Vestus was puzzled for even he had no control of this massive storm, it wasn’t wild and terrible, it was calm, yet eerie, as if the whole world had gone silent, for it has. Then the aluid drew his sword of diamond and thrust it to the sky as he shouted the last words from the book. Suddenly sparks started flying from the pages of the book and finally a band of lightning shot out of the book’s enchanted pages, the power of the elements left the book and shot to the sky and then a much larger band of lightning shot back down from the center of the swirling dark clouds, striking the tip of the sword, down the blade, and into the king’s body. He cried out and knelt, but only for a few moments, he then lifted his head and the sight was amazing to see, his eyes were glowing pure white, the power of the elements, of the gods had come upon him. He looked to the sky and called out a thanks prayer to Peteras and then turned his glowing eyes to the invaders of his city, jumping down off the tower and landing lightly on the ground. The gods anger burned against him but even with all of their power, they could not fight the combined power of nature, at least not without their brother Bestia. The god’s fate was now sealed but they stilled tried, believing they could defeat this weak aluid king. Terram threw large boulders at the king but they were simply knocked aside or sliced in two by the king’s sword. Vestas summoned a whirlwind to surround the king and sweep him away, but instead the king stood there, his eyes glowing brighter now and raised his sword, with one motion he slashed through the winds as if they were paper and at once it disappeared. Then Lympha called forth a giant wave and the water wrapped around the kind and quickly froze into a clump of ice, but the kings eyes grew even brighter than before and the ice immediately melted and sploshed to the ground, the king himself was completely dry. Finally Ignus stepped forward, his eyes turned to flame and his body lit ablaze and he pointed his finger at the king and the hottest fire of all camed from it and spiraled toward the king, the fire enveloped him and Ignus believed he had won. But suddenly the fire blasted back out at them and they were knocked to the ground. They immediately looked up to see the king standing just as he had when he landed. Then slowly a small rock floated up and started spiraling around him, then a droplet of water formed and started swirling, then a small flame formed and did the same, and a small sphere of wind formed and followed its twins, and finally a bright light, almost blinding formed over the kings head and it grew brighter and brighter until even the gods needed to shield their eyes. The king then, sacrificing his energy took his sword hilt in his hand, pointed it to the ground, and drove it into the ground. All was silent for just a moment until a massive earthquake began, and four great cracks in the ground spread out from the sword, now stuck into the rock, and the great light grew to be brighter then the sun. The gods saw the chasms forming in the ground, the clouds overhead, and the blinding light before them and they realized their doom was at hand. At once Vestus was swept up in a violent whirlwind that he had no control over and he was locked away in the whirlwind as it dropped into one of the chasms. A mighty wave rolled up and pulled Lympha in and she was enveloped in water and ice and was locked away at the bottom of a small stream of water at the bottom of the second chasm. Terram was pulled up inside the third chasm and boulders fell on top of him. A whip of fire lashed out and grabbed Ignus and pulled him down into a dark, fire burned world and he was locked away in this world and the gate at the bottom of the fourth chasm closed. (It is believed that lava, or “liquid fire” came into the world from the fiery dimension.) And almost as soon as the four chasms opened they closed, with their prisoners locked away forever. All that was left there were four cracks in the ground and a small hole at the intersection of them, the sword and the king had simply disappeared. The king had sacrificed himself to save his people from complete destruction and the sword...well no one knows what happned to it, some say it was sucked into the ground, others say it simple disappeared, not to return until needed, and some others even claim it was stolen. Whatever happened to the sword, one thing is true, it wasn’t the end of the sword, or the power of Pateras. But it had served its purpose, the threat was now gone, peace had once again been restored. Thus was the gods prisons formed, never to open again. Last days of the Aluids With the defeat and imprisonment of his children completed, Pateras gathered up the pieces of his child, Bestia, a buried them in a tomb that the Aluids had once used as a mine but they then carved out a great tomb for Bestia, and for a decent burial he ripped the top of the nearby mountain off, crushed it in his hands and he threw it out over the entire battlefield, the entire city, , and the nearby coast and they were covered by earth and rock; a mass grave for all those dead. [It is believed by historians that the “Mass burial” was in fact the first mega volcano in history erupting and that ash and lava flowed out of the volcano and covered the land and into the ocean for several miles in all directions.] And with all of this done Pateras mourned for his slain child, the remainders of the Aluid race mourned as well for Bestia and all those who had fallen to the gods wrath. But once the mourning was complete, Pateras, seeing his world scarred by war, knew that the Aluids would never be able to grow in this land, time would be required for the land to heal some of it's scars. So Pateras broke a piece of the moon away and placed it in the middle of the great waters, dividing it into two great oceans, causing a new continent to form on the opposite side of the world, he then took pieces of his children’s creation, plants and animal specimens mostly and loaded them onto a large ship, an ark, that he had told the Aluids to build. Finally with great joy the last of the Aluids boarded the ship, never looking back at the scarred and dying continent. Pateras shut the door and a large wave formed and pushed the ship across the great waters to its final destination. Thus was the great exodus from the Hamatrian Continent, which would not see life again for thousands of years. When the ship arrived on the shores of the new world, Pateras, too exhausted to do anything else, told the last of the Aluids to once again multiply as they had done before the war. He also told them to take the specimens he had taken from the old world and begin life once again on this new continent, the Aluids agreed to do this and was given a new mantle, a mantle which would give them the true rights to the planet and all in it, Human. And so with all of the world at peace once again and his world in the hands of a better race than his own children, Pateras, so exhausted with all that had occurred since his creation of the world, fell asleep once again, not to wake again until woken. And taking Pateras’ last blessing the Human Race began to once again build on a new, fresh, and clean world, hoping that the threat of the gods would never again befall their race. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I assume you know the rest brother, humanity spread far and wide across the vast new continent, without the gods interference life was hard, but the human persevered, man always seems to do that; surviving and exploring. But of course it could not last, for fate would not allow man to continue down their path and so to once again sharpen man’s survival skills, the heavens rained fire and for a second time a fragment of humanity was chosen to return to the land of their ancestors. Although the human race never returned to their ancient technology level of the Aluids with inventions such as a flying machine, weapons that spouted fire, and extraordinary tools of building, it was required for the survival of our ancestors, the Aluids, whose name is now forgotten to time and history. Do you wonder why I am telling you this entire story, brother? To help you understand what is at stake, what almost happened, to OUR ancestors, this letter is an act of warning and I pray that you will take it to heart and mind and realize the dire need the whole human race is in. I feel an ancient threat may soon return, and in full force. This was confirmed by a dream I had almost a fortnight ago and because of it I stayed in solitude with my books and research to understand its meaning. You may wonder what the dream was and I will tell you. Darkness over the world, gaping holes and swallowing floods and raging fires and four people standing among these terrible images surround me, a lone man, these beings preparing to crush me, but a small point of light shines in the distance and I run for it. To my right and left I see other people, a great host of people, running for the light as well, some friends, some enemies, and some I never knew, but all going to the same place. But I do not reach the light, I trip and fall into darkness, no one else comes back to help me. I trust this letter will find you soon brother, it is the only warning I can give you, for I feel this is the last time you will hear from me. We are preparing for the worst here in our mountain monastery; I pray you will do the same, for I fear for the survival of you and your family; our family. Goodbye my brother, all of my prayers and blessings go with you, You Brother Edited by DeadlyInsanaty, May 10 2012, 12:27 AM.
