And don't you EVER step foot in his area again!
Honestly? She probably hadn't planned on it. However the knife that was thrown and landed less than a few inches from her head, skewering into the ground, was probably a decent enough of a incentive to not.
It didn't take what was there of the hooded figure to bolt and start taking off up the street, slowing after a bit.
Hey! That person! They stole from me!Stop them!

Thud, thud, thud
Seriously? Briefly, the figure would turn her head, and would be met with the view of two soldiers chasing her. Had they been patrolling last year? Surely not, she didn't recall soldiers patrolling the streets last year... But maybe she had been smart enough not to get caught last year.
Thud
She'd let out a gasp as she fell back, her rear meeting the had ground that had been compacted from many a person traveling the streets over time. A scowl would form on her brow, and she'd look up long enough to realize she'd stupidly run into someone. A split second later and she'd push herself back up on her feet.
"So-"
She'd cut herself very short, realizing if she spoke he'd realize she was... well, a she. Had he seen her face when she looked up? Gods, she hoped not.... Subconsciously hands would reach up to make sure her face was still covered, and thanking the gods when it was, she'd look back briefly again. "Grab them!"

That was about all the incentive she needed. One more quick glance would be thrown up to whoever it was she'd ran into, before she'd side step quickly and take off again.
Not a moment too soon another street came up, and she'd turn up it, before being faced with a left or right option. Spotting an array of four wagons full of harvest goods in 2 x 2 format, she'd turn up the right toward them, slipping quickly between the two closest to where she, and soon the soldiers, would be coming from, before dropping to her stomach and crawling under the furthest, laying on her stomach underneath it and concentrating on her breathing. It wouldn't do her any good to manage to outrun them, just to be heard gasping for breath and caught anyway. She had a feeling they wouldn't give a rat if she was a she, the blonde had a feeling she would almost definitely end up dead.

Thud, thud, thud
Breath would almost be held as she pressed a cheek to the ground, straining her hardest to see them (or atleast their shoes) without being seen herself. "Where you think they went?" she assumed the other shrugged, because she never heard a response from the second soldier.
What seemed like hours would pass as the two scanned the streets, though in reality it was probably less than ten minutes. Just to be sure the girl would wait until she was almost positive they had gone back the way she had led them, before crawling out slowly.
Dirt that had made it's way into her mouth would be spat back onto the ground in the most unladylike manner, before setting to work brushing off the thick film of dirt that covered her front. The now clearly blonde wouldn't even bother fixing her hood back into place just yet as she still fussed with brushing off the dirt which was still covering one cheek, judging by the other, underneath it all would probably be almost white skin. Unbeknown to her she'd probably made the dirt worse, smearing it all down her chin too. Her mother would be thrilled when she saw this mess arrive back to camp....

Brown eyes would scan the area from under thick, extremely dark lashes that even for performing hardly ever needed the help of kohl to accentuate. Eventually gaze would fall back onto the cart she had just taken shelter under, and onto the contents of them. Surely they wouldn't notice a couple of things taken... There was so much there, surely they had plenty...

"Oi! Kanai! Wake up, we're here. Kanai!"
The voice had started off as but a whisper, but as it dragged on, finally snapped the young man awake. He corrected his posture in the horse-driven wagon they had been riding in - his slouch had apparently given the other man personal space issues, as he was pressed hard against his wall, holding the reins. A hand would rub his blue eyes, before running through a thick, but short, spiky mane of red hair.
"Father ever tell you that you sleep like the dead?" The other asked, facial features mimicking Kanai's own.
"Father ever tell you that you could wake the dead with that obnoxious voice?" he'd retort, and stretch shortly.

Helia was different than home. The town he came from was smaller, and everyone knew everyone. Del'ri was home to most of Hedroom's food production - wheat farm and cattle ranches. Here in Helia, the streets were bustling, the towers were stocked well with armed guards, and there was never a shortage of things to buy. Trinkets, treats, weapons. Everything that you could ever ask for sat pretty in the Capital.

The wagon would pull off to the side, just after the main gate, and stop fast.
"Okay, now, remember: Do not get into trouble. Father would have my neck if he found out he had to come back here to get you out of the stocks."
"Kaj, relax, okay? I've done this before."
"Yeah, well, just... Try to be back here for sun down? I'll sell the wares, and then I'm going to look for the Gypsies, see what we can bring back, or if they'll take what we have left."
"I'll keep an eye."

The two bid farewell, and Kanai would stroll into the main market place, a small serrated knife concealed under his tattered shirt - for emergencies, of course. This was going to be amazing. Speed increased as he made his way from shop to shop, making sure that he picked up every statue and trinket he could find for a closer examination.

As he was making his way around to the fresh foods, he heard a distinctly angry call. He paused momentarily, placing his apple back on the cart and straining to hear. After a moment, he would shrug, and return to his food, until another. This time clear.
That Person! They stole from me! Stop them!
Who? Wha? Me? He began to turn, when a force impacted his back. Yup, this is it. Kaj is going to be livid. Hand would make for the knife, as he turned fast. Seeing nothing at eye level, gaze would drop to the ground.
So -
"Hey, buddy. Watch it, will you! You could have been hurt!" Grip would release, and a look of astonishment would take over as his would-be attacker would raise and run again.
Grab them!
"Them? .. Whoa, whoa, hey! No! I'm, I'm just.." Son of a bitch... Well, they had it in their heads that they were together. Eyes would follow the last of the stranger rounding the corner, and he would tail after.

As the 'left or right' came up, he hadn't been quick enough to see which the stranger had taken. A raspy breath, and a glance shot behind him would signal that he didn't have much time to react. Left, left, left. His brain shouted, and he followed, finding a small alley way just around a bend. It didn't exactly have the best eye shot of the cut off, but at the very least, he could listen for safety. It wasn't long after he had curled into a ball, and hidden in the darkest corner he could find, that the voices started. Through the rest of the busy voices, he couldn't tell if they were exactly the same he had heard prior or not - but they sounded angry, and that was all he needed to go off of. Breath would be held for what seemed like forever, and finally he would swallow his fear. Had they really gotten that good of a look at him, anyway? They were probably more concerned with the man that just stole. What would he be, an accomplice?
Don't put it past the Draga Knights, Kanai... You know all too well... he'd think to himself, as he slowly crept out of the alley way.

Once in the light, he'd brush his pants off as best he could, attempting to get the dirt from the alley off of his lower back and behind his legs. A quick glace would be cast towards the split in the road, and then a double take. That outfit looked familiar... But.. A woman?
"Hey! He'd yell from his vantage point, and continue brushing as he walked towards her. Following her gaze from a distance, he'd shake his head. "Isn't that what almost got you... I mean, us.. Into trouble last time?"
He'd stop a safe distance away, and kneel down with his toes.
"What was all that about?"

you could have been hurt now she was, hopefully, safe in her hiding spot she was able to recall what the man she had ran into said, and had she not been in such a precarious situation probably would have laughed at the irony. She had no doubt he'd realised by now if she'd been caught she would currently be facing a whole new world of pain.

isnt that what almost got you... Us... Into trouble last time? the blonde would spin to face him, eyes wider than saucers as she stared him over. A soft shit... would escape her lips as she realised it was the man she had just run into, and she'd hesitate before taking a couple of steps back, could she outrun him? Probably not... He hasn't run for as long as her to begin with, and he could probably over take her just from the height and pace difference. Though as he crouched she would frown in confusion, head tilting slightly as she marginally relaxed. It would take him just long enough to get up, to give her a head start if she needed it.
"Us?"
She'd finally ask, looking back at the cart in question before sighing. Had she not been clearly caught contemplating it she would have taken a couple of vegetables at least, they went a long way if you used them properly. Eventually she'd look back at him, almost laughing. They thought he'd been with her? Did they really give her that little credit? His hair stuck out like a sore thumb, he'd be noticed in no time, though she kept that to herself.

what was all that about?
She'd grin in reply, shrugging while the clearly amused face stayed well on.
"just having some fun... Old man thinks I took something, I think he forgot where he put it"
She'd smile and shrug as she spoke in a almost child like tone, he didn't really need to know she had actually taken something from him. None the
Less a amulet he claimed had some form of
Magik infused. Naturally they wouldn't be able to trade or sell it here, though she had a feeling somewhere like Mayaff it would gain a good price.
"why are you back here?"
She'd eye him suspiciously, tensing to run again. He probably wouldn't be dumb enough to call the soldiers if he was suspected too, but better safe than sorry...

Legs would tense slightly as she stepped away. Aw, come on, I don't wanna do that again... A sigh would escape, and he would loosen himself. Why run after her? So, she almost got him arrested for theft. It's not like he'd ever met this woman before, or would probably ever again. After a short scolding for her actions, they'd both be on their way and done with it.

Us? As the question was spoken, he'd nod quickly. Even if it wasn't directed at him, he was slightly irritated by the whole situation.
"Yes, us! I almost had one of those Draga Knight's swords to my stomach. Thank you for that."
Another sigh - he was forcing this one, placing emphasis on just how unimpressed he'd been at the whole ordeal.

As she answered him, eyes would roll slightly. He could hear that inner child, that light hearted view on what had just occurred. And, while it was almost funny, he'd still almost been hanged for something he didn't do.
"Old men tend to misplace things," he'd start, "But most times they have a least a little help. Especially around these streets."

He stood, and stretched his legs behind him one at a time. If she was a thief, he didn't want to take the chance of all her little thief friends being around, and being caught off guard. As he stretched his arms, hand would make for the knife, discreetly unlatching it for an easier draw.
What are you doing back here? What am... What am I doing? Really?

"My brother and I have come from Del'ri to trade some things with the locals, and possibly find one of those roaming camps. They have quite a few... interesting... things about them, sometimes." Might as well not make the situation any worse. If she did have back up, and he acted aggressive, it'd only make it harder to get out of. Eyes would scan for anyone that appeared to be taking too much of an interest in their current situation, but nothing that seemed too out of the ordinary crossed his path.

"Wouldn't happen to have any ideas?" he'd ask, gaze finally setting back on her. She did almost get him killed, he was hoping that there was at least some honor among thieves, and she would perhaps tip him off in the direction of some good finds, or a nearby camp.
"I mean, aside from watching as old men lose things, you seem pretty... Well versed in the area. All I need is a point in the right direction, and this whole situation can be forgiven."
Aha! If Father could see me now, maybe he'd allow me into more advanced training with Kaj... And not stick me at home with Mother and Aya.

Arms would fold across his chest, and an eye brow raise.
"Or, we could try the running thing again. But, I think we both know that size isn't on your side with that one. And, I'm sure the reward on catching a thief is pretty good, right?" a devilish smile would take hold, screw being diplomatic. He knew he wouldn't give chase, but that didn't mean she had to.

As he reinforced the us she'd go wide eyed again, looking him over once more as a small oh.... would escape her lips, and she'd bite the lower one.
"sorry bout that..."
She'd murmur, but had they honestly thought-? Wow they really were stupid....

As he mentioned old men having help she'd shrug, shaking her head
"perhaps he did"
She'd smirk lightly, though she'd also be watching his movements wearily. The last thing she needed, or wanted, was a slit throat. What had her parents said before she left? stay out of trouble, Ali Yeah eight... Apparently trouble was her middle name.

As he mentioned roaming camps her smirk would falter and gaze would be looking him over once more, had he figured it out already? Surely not... She looked nothing like a traditional gypsie, though that was probably due to not being born by gypsies... What would her parents say? Turning up covered in dirt, with a person in tow. They'd be thrilled...
"Who's asking?"
She'd look him over with suspicion clear on her face, hopefully he wouldn't connect her with them but just see her question as interest in why he wanted them. Shifting uneasily and moving to, what probably looked like rubbing her arm, she'd hold her wrist lightly. in truth she had her favourite dagger strapped there.

As he mentioned not running shed grin back, looking at the ground as she pointed a toe, idly drawing something in the dirt with a bare toe.
"If you can prove you aren't one too, I'm sure they'd be thrilled"
She'd look up at him
With a
Amused smirk, brow raised, surely he wasn't that dumb? But the threat had made her think, and clearly he was thinking she was going to try something, or there wouldn't have been threats..

She'd catch his gaze scanning the area, and her amusement would grow. Did the thieves around here work in groups? Maybe that was why her neck was still in one piece.
Regardless, there was no harm in letting him think there were more, since he was doing the threatening....

As she muttered her apology, shoulders would raise and fall quickly.
"Water under the bridge, I suppose. I'm still breathing. But, you really should learn to be more careful." he'd mock in his scolding manner, a small sigh escaping as she smirked and spoke again.
"And, that. You should learn to stop doing that."

Arms tensed again as her gaze turned colder, more concentrated. Had he struck a cord somewhere? His fingers tingled, and eyes scanned the surrounds again. Why did it have to be a woman? If this was some run of the mill con, I'd have no issue slicing him from head to toe...
"You want a name?" Or, perhaps she was after a reason? He had thought he went into enough detail with the 'Traders' speech, and giving names could be dangerous... Not only for him, but for his family.

A deep breath in, and he'd finally speak again.
"My name is Kanai, and I come from a family of soldiers and traders. We make a few trips to Helia a month to trade some of our goods, and look for others that we can trade back at Del'ri." There, nothing to specific. Besides, if she did know where the closest camp was, hopes would be they'd remember his father.
"We've visited them before. Well, I haven't personally, but... It's not too difficult to tell what clan I belong to." Both of the males in the family had inherited their father's hair and eye coloring, and Kanai's skin tone was almost an exact replica of Kinsai's. Some often thought him the older, as he bore a slightly stronger resemblance to the man, even if Kaj did get his height. All of these traits had, apparently, been passed down from male to male in his select tree. Father would always say, We have the Pure's blood running through our veins. Kanai wasn't much for bed time stories that passed off as religious fan fare, but he did see his family as an oddity, if anything.

As she poked fun at his threat, Kanai's cheeks turned a slight red color. Did he just get called out by a thief?
"No one caught me misplacing things. I'm sure, once they found out who I was, I could explain the whole thing away." Sometimes, having a career soldier father was a help. Mentally though, he'd slap himself. Not too much information... You don't know what she knows...

Her motions would send him on alert again, though he would try not to show it off. Steady your breathing... Just keep eye contact.
"If you're not certain, you may just say. I just assumed that someone as skilled in being undetected as to crawl under a cart..." he'd smirk, and laugh silently before continuing, "May know their way around the woods near by. And, our favorite family group did love our things from Del'ri. I'd hate to be the one to deprive them of our returning business, no?"

And that, you should learn to stop doing that
She'd smirk, walking casually toward him, head tilted slightly to the side and smirk still on her face till she was in reaching distance. Dangerous, but if he was going to do anything she figured he'd have done it by now.
"Bother you?"
She'd ask softly, smug look crossing her features as she looked up at him. How she stayed serious long enough to get a job done was probably beyond her parents.

Though as he, granted unknowingly on his part, brought up her family and wanting to trade with them, a step back had been taken so she could look him over. You want a name? well, she had, though as he started prattling off about his family she'd sigh, a small amused smile creeping back onto her lips as she shook her head lightly.
'Which gypsies are you after, I have no use for your family history."
Though, she supposed he probably had no idea... He'd never been there. She'd sigh, may as well have some fun. He didn't need to know that she probably knew whom. Was it his brother that traded with her family? Surely there weren't that many here that shared his unique features...

Gaze would notice his cheeks flush, and smug smirk would return. She'd shrug and fold her arms across her chest.
"They never caught me misplacing anything either"
Though she'd tilt her head in interest at the last of his words.

As he spoke both brows would raise, the still amused look upon her face.
"who said I don't know anything?"
She'd tease, gaze falling toward the entrance to the alley they were at, and hesitating for a moment. There weren't many women... or anyone... walking around in a hooded traveling cloak... She'd silently curse, one hand disappearing up her sleeve, probably to hide in her clothes underneath her 'prize' from today's escapade before she'd throw the cloak off to reveal a floor length red skirt, with a top made from the same material, one sleeve hanging loosely off her shoulder. Cloak would be thrown under the cart, by the time they found it she'd probably be long gone. Apart from the dagger strapped to her forearm, her outfit probably looked like any other woman's clothes who was wandering the street.

She'd eye him suspiciously one last time before apparently convincing herself he wouldn't try anything, and kneeling on one knee to remove the strap from her arm, to strap it to her calf, before standing up again and eying him one last time.
'Do you have everything you need?"
Surely his family had let him know unless he was with someone they already knew, they'd all be suspicious of him.... And clearly he wasn't someone they knew, because apparently amongst all the other dark haired, dark skinned members of their group, she stuck out like a sore thumb....
"Or are we waiting for someone else?"

Brow would raise and muscles tense slightly again as she smirked and came closer. What was her game? Gaze carefully caressed the crowd again, but upon seeing no one take an interest in her approach to him, he eased. There was no way, with all of these people on the street, that this girl would attempt anything on him - not without back up. At least, he'd hoped that would be the case. It'd be one thing to explain to Mother why he had to kill a woman - it'd be another entirely for Kaj to have to explain to Mother that he'd been killed for being an idiot.

"Only when the end could mean a rope 'round my neck," the words came out in a near whisper as he studied her smug features. As she'd step back, he'd start slightly. Had he surprised her? No use for your family history... eyes would roll, and he'd stare off to the side in thought for a moment, before returning a flustered look to her.

"I've never been, personally," he'd sigh. She obviously knew something, and if he had to give more information to get what he wanted...
"I don't know, the big one? The one that trades with Kinsai Tael of Del'ri. I've never been, and if we're being frank here - which, I can tell that we are, - I've no use for their family history, either." Perhaps that came across a little more cold hearted than he had hoped... But if it got his point across.

As she spoke about not getting caught, both brows would raise quickly, and fall back into place. Well, she was right, in a sense. She hadn't been caught.
"Was a little close of a call, though, eh?" he'd retort, before watching as she took the cloak off to reveal her actual outfit. Well, that looked a little gypsy like, and would probably explain her 'knowing something' comment.

"I.. Th- the wares, they're back at the wagon. My brother has them, if you'd care to follow?" Great going, Kanai. You probably just angered the head mystic or whatever is important in gypsy society. It would be your luck. A loud sigh would be heard, his admission of defeta, as he turned his head back towards the way they had come.

"It's just by the main gate. Kaj has visited the family before... Might be better to take him, yeah?" The words were more a thought to himself, but were spoken audibly for her to confirm. He'd turn his gaze back to her, attempting to smile genuinely.
"I mean, unless you feel confident we wouldn't be kicked out at the sight of strangers?" maybe she'd confirm his suspicion.

"Oh come now, you're in no more danger. I won't try kill you of you don't try kill me"
She'd laugh, watching him with arms folded over her chest. Though as he rolled his eyes she would frown, pouting faintly.
"That's rude"
She'd take up a similar tone that he has used to scold her mere moments prior, before the smirk would reappear.

She'd raise her brows and nod as he admitted having never been, though when he mentioned Kinsai a brief look of surprise would cross her features. Though it would be replaced with a amused laugh as he claimed the big one?. Well, wasn't he a ray if sunshine? She had to almost literally bite her tongue to stop herself poking it out at him.

She would almost laugh again at his reaction to recognising her clothes, and she'd arch a brow in combination with a smirk in his direction
"just a little"
Clearly he was used to playing 'by the rules', and clearly she found that amusing. As he started mentioning the wares, she would nod slightly, amusement lighting up her gaze.
"It wouldn't make sense to go trade without anything to trade... Lead the way"
She'd smile, casually making her way toward him - and as a result toward the exit of the maze she had led them into.
"Ali, by the way"
She'd call over her shoulder

A single brow would raise as she told him that he was in no further danger. That's what someone who wants to put you in danger would say... the thought was only fleeting, he pushed it from his mind almost immediately. She'd of killed him by now, if she wanted to. Seeing her pout and scold him, a small laugh would erupt from his chest.
"I - I'm sorry. I just assumed we were past the point of being 'rude' to each other. I get called a thief, you get an eye roll, thought it'd make us on even ground."

He'd smirk, almost to himself, when she'd comment on the close call. Only a little? Well, she did have a point. These were soldiers that had been stationed as city guard - so they couldn't have been the brightest of the bunch, else they'd be out on the front. Even so, was it really wise to push your luck in the capital city?

Wouldn't make sense to go to trade with nothing to trade... Cheeks would get rosie again as she spoke, and he'd nod slowly. He'd turn to follow her, catching up to her mid stride and nodding.
"It's a pleasure, Ali." He'd say softly before over taking her, and weaving down the crowded streets.

When they finally arrived at the wagon, the bareness of the land around it made his stomach sink. Kaj wasn't back yet?
What the Hell took you! A voice called from inside the wagon. Or, maybe he was. And who the Hell is that?
"I got a little..." eyes would shift uneasily to Ali, and then back to where the voice was calling from, "... Side tracked. And, this is a guide that I enlisted to help us find the camp."

Kaj would storm out from behind the fabric holding the wares inside. A quick smack would land upside Kanai's head, and then he would look to Ali.
Her? Kanai, you can't be serious. A sigh would escape the older man, and he'd walk back to the wagon, producing a bag, before returning and throwing it at Kanai's feet.
You've already messed up the time line. Go, and come back, but make it quick. Sig-ha save you, if I have to stay the night in Gods forsaken place. The family crest is in there, it'll be the proof you need.

Rubbing the area that had just been attacked by his brother, Kanai would kneel slowly, and throw the bag over his shoulder.
"I'll be as fast as I can," he'd say low, before looking to Ali, and mimicked her response back at the alley way, "I've got the wares, lead the way."
