And don't you EVER step foot in his area again! Honestly? She probably hadn't planned on it. However the knife that was thrown and landed less than a few inches from her head, skewering into the ground, was probably a decent enough of a incentive to not. It didn't take what was there of the hooded figure to bolt and start taking off up the street, slowing after a bit. Hey! That person! They stole from me!Stop them! Thud, thud, thud Seriously? Briefly, the figure would turn her head, and would be met with the view of two soldiers chasing her. Had they been patrolling last year? Surely not, she didn't recall soldiers patrolling the streets last year... But maybe she had been smart enough not to get caught last year. Thud She'd let out a gasp as she fell back, her rear meeting the had ground that had been compacted from many a person traveling the streets over time. A scowl would form on her brow, and she'd look up long enough to realize she'd stupidly run into someone. A split second later and she'd push herself back up on her feet. "So-" She'd cut herself very short, realizing if she spoke he'd realize she was... well, a she. Had he seen her face when she looked up? Gods, she hoped not.... Subconsciously hands would reach up to make sure her face was still covered, and thanking the gods when it was, she'd look back briefly again. "Grab them!" That was about all the incentive she needed. One more quick glance would be thrown up to whoever it was she'd ran into, before she'd side step quickly and take off again. Not a moment too soon another street came up, and she'd turn up it, before being faced with a left or right option. Spotting an array of four wagons full of harvest goods in 2 x 2 format, she'd turn up the right toward them, slipping quickly between the two closest to where she, and soon the soldiers, would be coming from, before dropping to her stomach and crawling under the furthest, laying on her stomach underneath it and concentrating on her breathing. It wouldn't do her any good to manage to outrun them, just to be heard gasping for breath and caught anyway. She had a feeling they wouldn't give a rat if she was a she, the blonde had a feeling she would almost definitely end up dead. Thud, thud, thud Breath would almost be held as she pressed a cheek to the ground, straining her hardest to see them (or atleast their shoes) without being seen herself. "Where you think they went?" she assumed the other shrugged, because she never heard a response from the second soldier. What seemed like hours would pass as the two scanned the streets, though in reality it was probably less than ten minutes. Just to be sure the girl would wait until she was almost positive they had gone back the way she had led them, before crawling out slowly. Dirt that had made it's way into her mouth would be spat back onto the ground in the most unladylike manner, before setting to work brushing off the thick film of dirt that covered her front. The now clearly blonde wouldn't even bother fixing her hood back into place just yet as she still fussed with brushing off the dirt which was still covering one cheek, judging by the other, underneath it all would probably be almost white skin. Unbeknown to her she'd probably made the dirt worse, smearing it all down her chin too. Her mother would be thrilled when she saw this mess arrive back to camp.... Brown eyes would scan the area from under thick, extremely dark lashes that even for performing hardly ever needed the help of kohl to accentuate. Eventually gaze would fall back onto the cart she had just taken shelter under, and onto the contents of them. Surely they wouldn't notice a couple of things taken... There was so much there, surely they had plenty... |

"Then we're even" She'd smirk, tossing her hair over her shoulder to get it out of her way as she looked around, for a 'capital city' it sure as heck was quiet. That was a little concerning. Lower lip would be taken between her teeth as she stared at the entrances to the street for a moment, almost suspicious of the lack of activity. Though gaze would fall back onto him, brows raised, at the sound of her name. She'd nod in his direction, before falling into step behind him. A small, smug smile upon her face as she caught sight of him when he overtook, and the flush that had coloured his cheeks. I got a little... side tracked.... she'd press her fist to her mouth, hiding the childish laugh that threatened to escape from her lips at his glossing over of their noon. Her? You can't be serious If glares could kill, he would probably be dead. Hand would leave her lips and cross over her chest, lips pressed together in annoyance. "You have a issue with a her?" Now him, him she had seen. Clearly he hadn't seen her, though that was usually the way her tribe liked it. Apparently villagers were more likely to buy off someone they thought was 'one of them' than they were a gypsy, and that was where her... unique, for a gypsy, appearance came in to work. Lead the way Scowl would disappear as she shrugged before turning on her bare heel and walking back the way he had just tailed her from, toward the gates that led out to the fields and in turn the forest beyond. It was a bit of a hike, but not unmanageable. It would probably be a hour round trip, if he didn't stop for small chat. Judging by the amount of small chat they were already partaking in, there probably wasn't much risk of that taking up too much time anyway. Gaze had been thrown over her shoulder every now and then, just to check he was still there and relatively close behind. Apart from that the blonde didn't seem too keen on stating much conversation. Occasionally she'd survey the area they were walking through, whether it was for knights or anything to steal was for her companion's imagination to runaway with. Despite the seemingly endless 'scenic route' to the forest, they had still seemed to make decent time. The sun was just past mid sky, so either they had traveled fster than she originally thought, or it had been much earlier than she thought when she'dfirst left off. It seemed even less time upon entering the forest before they heard the distant shouts of what was probably children, and general chatter of a camp. Glance would once again be thrown back to him before she'd lift her skirts half way up her calf to avoid any low laying branches or foliage. She'd already ditched her cloak, if her clothes needed mending too she'd probably be killed. "Alicia!" the blonde would cringe as two young, considerably darker girls ran into her almost as violently as she had run into the man following her, and she'd sigh. Well, that threw off her whole 'I can lead you there but I don't know anything about them' charade... Damn.... The younger of the two girls would receive a quick hug, since the young girl was already tugging on her skirts. Brown eyed gaze would look at the older of the two, and the older one would come to Ali, holding out her hand. "Take your sister and find papa" She'd murmur softly to the girl, hopefully words were barely audibly to their 'guest'. Reaching out a closed fist to the girl, Alicia would deposit whatever it was in her hand into the girl's hand, and close Gabby's fingers around it - hopefully before Kanai had caught a glimpse of the amulet. "Come" She'd look back at him, taking a slightly different route to what the younger girls had, which led to a very roomy clearing with a large bonfire in the middle. She'd shake out the hem of her skirts and turn to look back at him. "Were you hungry? Or thirsty? It's been a fair trip...." and she didn't know how long it would take the girls to find their father. For all she knew he was out hunting |

"Seems it." he'd respond with a small smile, as his pace would continue until they reached the wagon. Eyes would glance to her quickly as he and his brother had their back and forth, and he'd try to keep his cool in front of a stranger. It seemed that she, however, didn't really care for that route. Do you have an issue with her? Oh, please, please, no... Excuse me? Kaj would start, and Kanai would step forward. "Get back in the wagon, will you. Father'd kill you for striking a stranger, let alone a woman." What father doesn't kn- "Think I wouldn't?" he'd shoot his brother a smug grin, and Kaj would wave a hand at them before walking away. As they started back towards the fields and forests, Kanai's head would hang low. Sometimes, he wished things had been different. That he'd been born in a different way of life. Not that the farm was all that bad, he'd gotten to know how to live off of the land, and farm work was no easy task - he'd gained quite a bit of muscle mass over the years. But, his father and brother were almost unbearable at times, looking down on him. Every now and then, as she'd turn back to look at him, his head would raise. If she had attempted to start conversation, he'd at least show that he was willing to talk. The silence left him to his thoughts, however, and he'd follow her gaze off to the sides before returning it to the ground, checking every now and then to make sure he hadn't lost her. As they cleared the entrance to the forest, he'd stop for a short moment and take it in. As the children would run up, a brow would raise. Judging by their interactions, she wasn't just a guide to the camp, or a wanderer who knew their whereabouts. If she wasn't one of them, she was at least extremely close. "Alicia, hm?" he'd mutter, cracking a small smile at her. He'd thought it was supposed to work opposite - you'd give full names, and after knowing each other a bit, people gave each other nick names, or shortened. Shrugging mentally, he'd follow as she commanded that he come, trying to get a glimpse of whatever had happened between her and the child, but to no avail. Her offer of food or drink made him realize just how thirsty he was, and a hand would subconsciously rub his throat. "Water, if you wouldn't mind?" he asked, and continued to gaze around the forest. "Were those the children of the camp?" He obviously knew the answer, but the walk this far in silence had just about killed his mental capacity for the day, and he needed to fill the void somehow. If getting her to talk about the families here was the only way, then so be it. |

A just as irritated glance would be shot at Kanai as he interrupted. Had he thought she was incapable of defending herself? How... belittling... As his brother turned from them she'd poke her tongue out, arms still folded over her chest, followed by a huff. She would have loved to have gone on a just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I'm useless, find your own damn way to camp then tangent, however the ship for that thought process had long since sailed. Instead she had spent most of the walk back quietly seething, and taking her anger out on kicking any inanimate objects that had happened to cross her path. The little blonde would start as he uttered her whole name, and hard gaze would fall upon him. They didn't usually give full names, not until they knew the person, it gave them too much leverage over you according to her people. "What of it?" She'd stare up at him as she'd pushed herself off the ground, before nodding at his request for water and leading him further into camp until they reached a trailer that was clearly just for food and drink. Taking a water skin off a ledge of the trailer, she would remove two clay cups too, filling them and passing him one before replacing the skin to it's spot and taking a sip. She'd watch him curiously over the cup until he spoke. It wasn't that she hadn't wanted to talk.... Or, not exactly anyway. She just lacked conversation starter sills unless she was being a smart ass. "Yes, they're m-.... the leader's daughters....." She'd murmur softly, staring at the ground as though to avoid his gaze. They had no issue referring to the girls as her sisters among themselves, but she knew the questions would follow. They're your... sisters? and what happened to your parents? almost always followed, and though what she'd cut herself short of saying was probably obvious, she clearly didn't want to face that conversation. "What did you bring?... I don't know how long away our leader is, and your brother said he wanted to be gone...." She'd scratch the back of her neck lightly with her free hand, eying the bag he'd brought with him as she shifted - almost slightly uneasily. Unless he played her game of clueless, and refused to show her... That would just be tedious, and annoying... Idly she'd reach for a loaf of bread, breaking a piece off and offering it to him. It would be a long trip back if he didn't eat.. |

What of it? Had he sounded harsh when he said her name? He hadn't meant to, though with how rocky their meeting had been so far - he wouldn't of doubted it. "Nothing, I just... Thought it was nice?" It's a name, it doesn't sound like anything but a name. He'd sigh at his probably miserable attempt to blow it over, but would follow as she lead to the food tent. As she handed the cup to him, he'd nod and mutter a soft "Thank you.." in an attempt to not anger the girl any further, if he had. Cup would swirl absent mindedly in his hand as he watches the minuscule waves crash against it's side. As she'd speak of the children, a half smirk would form. "Your leader's daughters, hmm?" He'd attempted to put her stutter in there, though as the words came out, it actually made sense as it's own statement. The realization of this would cause him to frown momentarily, and he'd take a small drink of water. "I'm sure there's a few weapons in there, most likely," he'd state, swinging the bag down and onto the tent floor. "From what I recall, that was something that the leader seemed to take a liking to. Most of them were straight from Father's bench." He'd open the sack, and pull out one of his fathers blades. "Back at training, I use two of these. They're very sturdy." he'd speak to himself, and place it back, pulling out some jewels and trinkets. "These look like came from Mayaf, perhaps Liam, from the coloring." As she offered him the bread, he'd nod a thank you and take it softly, tearing a bit from it and eating it. Once he had swallowed, he shook his head. "Pay no mind to Kaj. If he has to sleep in the wagon, surrounded by heavily armed Knights for the night, it's no skin off of my back." He'd laugh, and ran a hand through his hair. Would serve the bastard right, too. |

Nothing, I just... Thought it was nice? faint, slightly confused frown would cross her features, before she shook her head lightly. Strange person, this one was, though his brother had been too.... Maybe it was inherited? She'd smile slightly at the thought. Brows would raise at his smirk, lips pressed together as he mentioned her sisters again, she would shrug slightly. She probably didn't need to follow it up with yet another 'yes, his daughters' comment. She'd nod slightly at his thanks for the drink, before eying the bag almost curiously. Gaze would almost gloss over the blade, though as he pulled out the trinkets she'd eye them curiously as she covered the bread back over and nodded again. "Alicia, you had your mother worried sick" yet another cringe, as she turned to face the direction the obviously masculine voice had come from. The man approaching was fairly heavy set, though not from over indulging in food, and stood a foot taller at least than the blonde. Dark hair had been embellished with semi precious stones woven into braids, coins, and a few other pieces for show. As the man strode toward them, carrying the younger of the girls that had greeted them upon their arrival, his hard stare was fixed solely Alicia. "I told you I was going into the city..." She'd murmur, head bowed as she drew in the dirt with her bare toe again. The man, her father, would watch her for a few moments before sighing and looking at the man behind her. "Who's that?" She'd glance behind her at her... companion, shrugging again. "Claims he's Kinsai's...." She'd murmur, voice still soft and head still bowed slightly under the man's hard gaze. "Where's your cloak?" She'd shift uneasily, looking up at him, before looking over at Kanai and narrowing her eyes in a "don't you dare say anything" glare. She'd look back at the man, biting her lip lightly. "It got too warm... I took it off and must have misplaced it...." He sighed, shaking his head. Well it was partially true at least.... It had been warm afer her run in, and she did take it off... "You'll have to go cold then... You're telling your mother" He'd finally turn to their guest, with Alicia following suit, clearly written upon his face that he hadn't believed a word she'd just said. "Renado, what does Kinsai have for us this time? and what's his prices?" His hand would be extended to the boy, and he would watch him for a few moments before looking toward the wares he had started to pull out. |

Eyes would adjust to attempt and decode her facial features. Everything was so.. light, to her. Had he finally broken through and forced a frown? In a sick way, he viewed it as an achievement, even if he had done it out of pure confusion. As she'd shrug, a small grin would find it's way to his lips, and he'd absent mindedly do the same. Well, there was her 'tell'. As the masculine voice would call out, a hand would instinctively raise to his back, and knees would bend. As she turned, he'd ease slightly, hand lowering to his waist. It was obviously someone she knew.... and her mother? Well, that reaffirmed what he had believed on their way here. As Alicia and the new man conversed, he'd straighten himself in an attempt to give off proper posture and be polite. Her voice seemed so small now - after all of her wise cracking and rashness, this man seemed to quiet her almost with his mere presence alone. As the attention was focused on him, eyes would widen slightly. Claims he's Kinsai's... Claims? Was it not all that apparent? Not that it would bother him if it wasn't. Where's your cloak? Oh, this ought to be good. As she shot him her glare, eye brows would raise, his attempt at a 'Hey, you got yourself into it...' silent retort. When the man had finally ended his scolding session, and had turned with hand extended, Kanai would meet it with his own. "Kanai. Pleasure to meet you, Renado." He'd begin, and after their shake had ended, he'd kneel back down to the bag. "Seems Father packed more of those blades that you fancied, having a better turn out with them than he is, I'd hope?" a smile would show through as he produced the sheathed blade again, unbelting it and sliding it out so that the saw like ridges in the blade were visible - Kinsai's trademark. He was actually very impressed with himself - from beat down 'little brother' to 'lets get down to business' in almost no time at all. Maybe he should take up this Merchant trade and see what he could do with it. "We've also some items of religious value," he'd continue, pulling a few of the trinkets that he had shown Ali out, "And, this..." He'd saved the best for last, reaching into a small flap of the bag and pulling out a dusty old book. He had feared it would end up...misplaced, had he shown it to the former. Better to do business with the business owner than someone running the table in his absence. The leather that bound the tome looked ancient, and by Kinsai's best guess was most like Shadow Draga skin, as the hue - which now looked a odd colored, light purple - had most likely once been a dark violet. Etched on the front cover was a single mark, of which had been a language Kanai, nor his father, could decipher. "Father acquired it by accident in a trade with a Scholar from Mayaf. The lettering inside is of the same language or glyphs as the mark on the cover," he'd state, opening the pages carefully, as not to avoid damage. "Perhaps, someone of your knowledge of the world could translate what it is?" A smile would be cast to the man, and eyes would fall behind him to Ali. The second part of the question racked him... What was on the list? "We're in need of some poultry, ours have gone to just above sustainable levels. If we're to keep an income from them, we'll need at least another Hen." He could recall his Father groaning about it before their leave. "Otherwise, we're just here to see what you have, if I may be so bold as to ask to browse? From what I'm aware of, Father never came seeking coin. Only an exchange of interesting items." |

The man would nod in response to the boy's question, and Ali would smirk. "They do the job on the rare occasions we need them to" Amusement would light up Alicia's face once more, as she considered mentioning those in Liam had shown particular interest in the blades he was producing. The man showed about as much interest in the 'religious' artifacts as Alicia had, though both their gazes focused on the book as he brought it out. His hard gaze would fall on Alicia again, and bows would raise in a "what?" expression, as though she didn't already know all too well just what the look was warning her against doing. "Alicia?" She'd sigh, shrugging it again. They hadn't spent much time educating her to read - much less interpret glyphs and symbols. She had no doubt that he wouldn't mention it to the camp though, their people were hugely superstitious, they left magik to the gods. "someone back in Mayaf might have use for it...." She looked back up at the man, and he'd signal her away. Disappearing for a few moments she'd reappear, holding a small pouch of silk, before emptying the contents into one of her outstretched palms and pulling the chain up. "It points to north... Magik for magik" At the end of the dangling chain was a clear glass pendant cut in a round, and bordered with gold. Clearly the item hadn't gained it's bearings yet, as a teardrop shaped ruby was buzzing around the inside of the glass, until it settled where it was pointing north, and as it did she'd look up at Kanai with raised brows. If nothing else it was pretty... 'It's protected by magik too, it doesn't break" As he started mentioning poultry, and eventually coin, she'd hide a small amount smile of amusement. Clearly her father was amused too, as he made no attempt to hide his smile. "We'll take the blade, we have four hens to spare, you can take your pick. Think on the compass, Alicia will show you the rest." He'd signal for them to move off, and Alicia would drop the glass disc back into the pouch, handing it to her farther before signaling for him to follow. She'd lead him to yet another trailer, the condition was lacking a fair bit compared to the rest, a small door opened out to a cage attached to the outside of it, clearly so the hens could wander in and out or be locked in during travel. There was another cage on the other side too, and two sets of much larger scaled legs could be made out pacing from under the wheels on the opposite side. "We have two giaza too, nasty things" she'd mutter, shooting a look of distaste toward the other cage which kept the animals in question, which made it clear that was why there were two separate cages. They'd lost a couple of hens from those birds and weren't willing to loose anymore, a trade gone wrong on her father's behalf. |

A small smirk and a quick nod would follow Renado's response. Certainly there was more to it than that - but, he was just a 'simple farmer,' and he'd allow his father to think that until he otherwise saw fit. As the man seemed to ask for Alicia's input about the book, a brow would raise. Was she the driving force behind all of this? The answer to the question didn't particularly matter, but it was a small attempt at getting inside the minds of these people. To Kanai, they seemed to live the life - not being tied down anywhere that people didn't treat them with dignity, the freedom to be what they wanted - within broader limits than he. He'd nod to her as she spoke. Yes, chances are someone there would, his father had gotten it from there, after all. Perhaps someone who studied the teachings a bit... under ground.... Could decipher what was happening, without threatening to hang the person who brought it to them. A small shrug would be given to himself, it was out of his hands now. His gaze would follow as she left the two men alone, a kind of awkward silence filling the gap before she returned and revealed her compass. Kanai's eyes would instantly light up, and he'd step closer for a better look. It points north... Magik for Magik. Always? Fascinated, he would watch as the ruby finally settled. If his Father had no care for this item, he would take it off his hands, no problem. "Has that last part been tested?" he'd inquire, more to try and keep up the charade of knowing what he was doing. He had to admit, so far, he could of fooled himself. Her father's words brought him back to the realm of reality, and he turned to look at the man just in time to see the smile, and second guess himself. Was he failing? Oh, Father would have his neck if he messed this up... "Aye, sir. Thank you..." he'd mutter softly, thoughts fast forwarding to the crack of his Father's whip. He'd judge by Kaj's reaction.... if it was bad, living on your own with no income at 18 winters wasn't horrible, right? He could probably run away and avoid detection. That was assuming there would be someone attempting to detect where he was, which was a long shot with his family. A shaky sigh would release as he'd follow Ali, stopping when she did to eye the Hens. As she spoke of Giaza, he'd turn and follow her gaze to the animals. "Nasty things. Ever been bit by one?" He'd pull up a sleeve, and turn his arm to show his wrist. Just below where his hand would bend, a thick mark would paint the features - something of a brand, he'd imagined. Though, no one else in the family had one, he was sure it was a move by his father when he was younger, and thought best not to mention it. Just below the strange marking was another - red, with what appeared to be many tiny marks inside. "They have a lot of teeth. A lot of sharp teeth." a laugh would escape as he said these words, and covered the mark back up. He'd kneel in front of the Hens, eyes glazing over each one slowly. "Any birth defects, or health issues with any of them?" he'd ask, and turn slowly to look at her again. Hopefully, they wouldn't screw him over too bad. If they did, Kinsai would stop providing the blades, he was sure. Hopes were that was a chain of events they didn't want to happen. |

Has that last part been tested? a brow would raise and she'd look him over, though something about his expression gave her the feeling he wasn't trying to be smart. "Technically... It will, eventually, break... Apparently the magik creates a shield, which takes the damage instead of the compass, I spose eventually the magik will give out but either it will be a long time or someone who studies magik should be able to restore it...." A glance from the corner of her eye showed her the slightly uncomfortable look on her father's face, which didn't seem to let up until their conversation ceased. Gently her cup would be placed on the step entering into their caravan of food storage, before leading him off. As he asked if she'd ever been bit, gaze would fall upon his arm with a slightly amused look before looking up at him "I'm not dumb enough to go in there" She'd smirk, looking back to the hens and laughing softly. "I suppose that's a no then" Pitty, she wasn't overly fond of the things, and really neither was anyone else in the camp. Luckily they had managed to set up the enclosure so that, apart from to give them water, they really didn't have to have any contact with them. The nesting boxes were accessible through the side that the hens were on, and food could be thrown through the bars. As he asked about the hens, she'd shrug, stating in a very matter-of-fact way "We don't have use for animals that need pampering, they've been hardy enough to deal with traveling across countries and haven't lost weight or gone off laying.... The black one is our leader's daughter's though, so she's out..." And Alicia wasn't terribly keen to be the one who broke to them she'd traded their only pet. Gaze would shift curiously to them, brows raised again. This clearly was either his first time, or one of them. "How do you plan to get them home?" She'd smirk, maybe he had a different idea of 'fun', but to her trying to transport four chickens with no cage, or wagon, didn't quite fit the idea of 'fun'. She'd drag it out for a little bit, before offering him the opportunity of staying the night and taking their cart back into town the next day, it would be far too late even if they did leave immediately to make it back before dark.... They'd probably be pushing it to make it back to the city before dark, and she wasn't keen on the idea of traveling those roads at dusk. |

I guess, technically... Oh, here we go. Mentally, eyes would roll toward the sky, though as she continued to explain he was able to hold it off from becoming a physical reality. How often were they going to use it, anyway? And, out of those times, how often would it be dropped? They should be able to get quite the longevity out of it. As she would begin to move away, Kanai would follow silently. At her comment, an eyebrow would raise. "Just was a case of wrong place, wrong time." he'd state in a kind of matter-of-fact way, before following her gaze to the Hens in the coop. "So, thank you for the offer, but I'm good on the demon birds," a soft laugh would escape, and he'd kneel back, returning to inspecting the hens. A nod would be given as she spoke of the Hen's health, a quiet smirk attached when she told him which was off limits. "Wouldn't want to upset the leader's daughter, would we?" He'd shoot her a small smile, and return his gaze to the animals, pointing at one of the more plump ones to the back. "I think Father would like that one there," he'd say, moving so that if she wanted a look to confirm, she could. Now... how was he going to get it back to Kaj? Brows would narrow in a concentrated look, and he'd stand, hands on his hips as he looked at his newly acquired purchase. "Let me think on that. Renado said that you had other things to show me?" posture would remain the same as he turned to face her, gaze shifting from the woman to the area behind her. "While we're browsing, I'm sure I'll come up with something." He hoped, anyway. Skies looked as if they were getting dark, and though he had brought some protection, he wasn't too keen on the idea of fighting off would-be muggers in the middle of the night. Perhaps they would let him make a camp a little off from them, and sleep in their woods to return in the morning? Would give him more time to figure the transportation out. "If, I mean, that is okay with your agenda?" Wouldn't want to seem pushy in a place where you were vastly out numbered. Although, these seemed like pretty easy going people. It didn't seem like they had much of an 'agenda' to keep, if he was completely honest with himself. |
