The empire of Valiere grew to a point where it sought out to expand its reaches overseas. Sending several ships over the Shrouded Sea, braving the treacherous elements that come with the expedition, they made it to a completely unique continent, clustered with an abundance of uniquely shaped islands and peninsulas. The Valiere people sought to colonize those islands, but unbeknownst to them they were already inhabited with the Burzan people, a hardy and strong people; caramel in complexion and were all a unique people, horned and furred as if they were animals themselves. As the empires hands weaved through the islands the smallish colonial governments sent ships to the capital and other defensible places, along with allies of the people of Burza. The colonizing ships of Valiere were quickly destroyed by the allied forces of Burza and the other racial kingdoms that neighbored the massive nation.

Unlike Valiere, the Burzan people knew that their strength came from their cooperation with other races and that it was necessary for them to unify. There, in itself, was Valieres mistake. Within their own empire there was a status quo, the “lower races” were put in their place and were used according to their strong racial traits and what they were known for doing. In the end the Burzan people moved swifter than any other and broke the mighty Valiere Empire. Every protectorate around and inside the empire was left a husk and stripped of all resource. As for the massive cities and forts that protected the heart of the empire they themselves were left husks, broken and burned, nothing left for any thief or brigand to pilfer. The Burzan people were known for being efficient and precise but since they were dealing with an entire empire it was best for them to wipe the land clean of the filth that inhabited the continent.

It was only by the good grace of the people themselves that the heart of the empire was spared. They roused the royal family and every arm of the council from the fortress-like castle forcibly and gave them to the Burzan generals in exchange for their word that they would spare their semi-fair city. It has been three years and at the only safe refuge for the Valiere people every family with power feels as if they should become the one to lead the Valiere people into a new age. While there is no royal family and no king to settle the needs of the kingdom, a new council, one far more pure than the last has taken the reins and will choose the next successors and those who will lead the Shattered Empire into an era greater than the last.
