I'd like to find the guy(s) who created the work around links and buy them a jug!

Great solution! I just hope PhotoBucket folks don't find a way to block this plug-in. They might soon enough. So what image hosting options have most guys moved to? Flickr has been working well enough for me... certainly faster than PhotoBucket ever was. But being free, I'm holding my breath for if/when they decide too decide to pull the plug.

My old trustworthy paid subscription cloud backup service, CrashPlan, just notified me they are getting out of the home user business by next year, and I have to migrate to another service. It happens, free or not! Perhaps I'll try Carbonite.

Today it occurred to me that if your links were broken, but you still had your pictures on Photobucket, you could just post a link to your album. People would then be able to see all of your pictures and it might be a pain to find the right ones, but that would be better than nothing. You could make looking easier if all of your slot related pictures were in their own album.

An addon that displays the MIA PB images.... pfffft, impossible! The Earth is flat and stars are holes in the sky! Everyone knows that.

Kev, if we had a "member of the month" program you would have just taken the cup. Good grief, what a gold nugget find! Works for me thus far using Firefox.

Can't help giggling at your find. I've long held a belief that where internet imaging is concerned, a way to display will always be found. The PB problem had me stumped after trying in vain to find the "backdoor" way around it. Hats off to the guys who found the work around. All da pretty pichers are showing again!

Ok.... now my nerdy part... this addon is very new, still warm & fresh outta the oven. It was developed by a small crew for Chrome. The Java language was then transferred into the Firefox version of the addon. I'm unsure how thoroughly it's been tested. I'm happy to have it installed in my browser but I would strongly recommend disabling the auto update function of the addon for now. In Firefox hit Tools/Add-Ons/Photobucket Embed Fix/More. From the "More" screen turn off auto updates. Call me paranoid but I've never been comfortable letting new to me software auto update. Am I being overly cautious?

Cheers,
Michael.

Hi guys. You may have noticed that some shared images via Flickr have the member's account name as a clickable link beside each image. The link is to the user's photo library, by default. Naturally several members expressed concern about this. Frankly I don't blame them. We wanna see their latest slot goodness but prefer that the 1972 photo of old aunt Betsie doing her birthday suit dance after ten too many drinks at the family reunion, remain securely locked away out of sight. Shame on old aunt Betsie!

What we need is the bare bones direct link to the image, minus all the fluff that links to the library (and Betsie). There are three or four ways to achieve this. I think perhaps the most convenient way is to modify the Flickr share link. Using this method enables you to choose the image size to be displayed in your post, as part of the process. Very handy if you store high resolution images at Flickr but want smaller versions in your post.

The shorthand version of the process is.... Flickr/Image/Share/BB Code/Choose size & copy link/Paste in Lodge post/Delete everything outside the [IMG] tags from pasted link.

Some screen caps to help explain...

It's kind of clunky yes? You see, PB & Imgur etc are designed for one primary purpose. To quickly share photos outside of the host. Flickr seems to me to be more in-house. In use it's geared more for viewing & navigating pics from their site. It's widely used by pro photographers as a show place for their work. As a free 3rd party host it works fine but that's not their primary aim. Make sense? When I have time I'll add details for a slightly faster method of obtaining the direct link if your images are stored at the size you want them displayed at.

I'm yet to move all my images to another host because I'm struggling to decide between Imgur & Flickr. I'm hugely impressed by Imgur's simplicity and speed but not happy that they don't maintain original file names. Flickr lets me keep the file names but is less graceful for sharing. Hmmmm.

Cheers,
Michael.

When I use Flickr I use about the same method a Jisp. In my case the only pictures that I have stored in the cloud are the ones that I might expect to link to and those have already been edited so they are the correct size.
