So..... you got some killer footage of your favourite set of wheels tearing up the track? You have footage of the same track tearing up your car? What, you also have footage of how you built it and detailed the body? No way! You even have footage of how you wired up the what-cha-mi-call-it that you use to time laps? Bring it on! We want to see it and thank you for your effort!

Still shots will always feature heavily at The Lodge but we’re also quite partial to moving pictures. This guide will step you through the process to embed video from YouTube into your posts. If you use a different video host and experience trouble, drop me a PM and I’ll try to help.

Like the picture posting guide you’ll find the method in both shorthand and a more detailed screen cap version. The shorthand.......

YouTube>Copy video full URL (address)>The Lodge thread>Advanced Edit>Flash button>Paste URL>Enter video height * >Enter video width * >Preview>Post

* After pasting the video URL you will be prompted for the video H & W. The default value for each is 250 which is the size of the square embedded player, not the video resolution. Your video most likely has a much higher resolution than what will be shown in the embedded player but it’s a nice & fast trade off between quality and load time within a thread. Feel free to use higher values but keep in mind that if anyone wants to see the video in its original resolution they need only click the YouTube logo in the bottom right of the player. I’d suggest that a max H & W of 480 should work well within threads.

Screenshot guide:

Head over to your video at YouTube and copy the full address (known as a URL) from your browsers address bar. It will look something like this, below.

Back at The Lodge, start your new thread or reply to another. If replying, you must use the Full Reply Screen option found beneath the Fast reply pane. Hit the “Flash” button at the top of the pane. Note: this is probably the first time in your life that you have ‘flashed’ in a video without being arrested and placed in prison. Savour the moment below.

Below, paste the video URL into the window by right clicking or using Ctrl+V on the keyboard. Hit the OK button.

You’ll now be prompted for the video height followed by the width, below. This is not the actual video resolution but the size of the embedded player that will appear in your post. See the * asterisk note earlier in this post for an explanation.

The edit pane will now contain the video URL wrapped in the required tags for embedding. Go right ahead and hit the “Preview” button. The preview pane opens above the edit pane and shows exactly how your post will appear. Below is the preview pane showing our video. The preview pane is fully operational as it would be in your post so hit the play button if you like.

All good? Excellent..... hit the Post button and you are done. Phone your parents and tell them of your new found fame as a video producer, director and star. Oh, and thanks once again for sharing.

All the best,
Michael.
