Speakers and stylus!! Get the best you can afford!! Doesn't matter the quality of the table as long as it's in top running order. I have had 30 dollar p mount technics belt drive tables along side of vintage thorens td 124. Same cartridge, same stylus. (P mount adapter on Thorens for quick change over) A few tweaks with the equalizer and I would hear No difference in sonics! I would buy a table you enjoy looking at, then get the best stylus you can fit and afford, (Jico SAS comes to mind..worth every penny!) set it to "your" room and "your" ears with the equalizer and sit back, enjoy, and to hell with what anybody else thinks!! Speaker placement is important as you know. Also, for serious listening, the balance knob is important. Take this advice with a grain of salt. It's my opinion!! Though I did side by side testing with just about every vintage table you can think of. I settled on a few mid-fi idler drives that "I" like to look at and listen to!!

Nice gear there Kiwi. I too dig the cabinet. I really like the old furniture type stereo systems. They were made by craftsmen and look the part! I like the feet/legs on you cabinet. Whats on the right side?? Tuner??

When it comes to looks I'd really, really like is a wooden plinth turntable with one of those tone arms that look like NASA made it!!
I couldn't agree more about the Speaker and Stylus thing.
The old Radiogram Tuner is on the right hand side of the cabinet. Looks great at night all lit up!

Dave, that's just gorgeous! Where did you get such an old girl in such fine condition? Any idea of the date of manufacture? The cabinet is stunning and the radiogram face is beautiful. Ya know, LED lighting has it's place but there's still much to be said for the soft, warm glow of incandescent. Thanks for the peek.

On with the tunes....... over the last page or so were a few slightly heavier tunes and the recent mash up builds here got me thinking about music style mash ups. I've heard several performers absolutely fail in attempts to perform Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights over the years but for my money, Andre Matos nailed it with his Heavy Metal band Angra.

Was doing a little work in the cave and Highway songs kept bouncing around in my head.... Mostly it was this one by Deep Purple......Highway Star .........the first one is circa 2000's ,,,, the second circa 1970's..................

Micheal, at a guess I'd say the 40's. It was a 2 hour round trip to pick up the Radiogram. At a cost of $60. Right place, right time!!
Babooshka by Kate Bush was a great vid that got my attention as a young fella! Deep Purples slower bluesy stuff is great music.

Hot, tattooed blondes!! Yummy!!

The very sexy Devil Doll. This may raise the blood pressure?

Dave, ya can't have slots without music.... great idea. With a million "favourites" it's hard to know where to start. I guess I can't go past the Aussie boys Spiderbait and there kick-rump cover of Ram Jam's Black Betty. Great song with an equally fast paced clip..... enjoy.
