Life Like "M" chassis Resurgence

Everyone, Seeing that Mattel has, for the most part, killed off the venerable 440X-2 chassis and slots for good. Dash is pretty much a hopeless one shot and done deal...........Walthers has made it known that.........IF..........they receive enough encouragement from the hobbyists, they might be interested in bringing back the old "M" chassis. The only way we can effectively help this happen, is to do an "email mail-in" campaign, that they begin production of this chassis again. We also need to mention that it should be made available to reliable slot car resellers in bulk, with bulk parts for those chassis made available to those dealers as well. Parts do wear out!!! So,,,,everyone get your keyboard warmed up and send your nicely worded email with the aforementioned bits to this email address; NPD@walthers.com Please, do tell them that you are a member of the Slot Lodge and that you are very interested in using these chassis for your race program, custom builds and for replacement parts for the older chassis that you have with worn out parts. This information is on FB, SCI and a couple of other places. Have a good day!!!!

Yup! Get on it folks. I first read about this elsewhere and have already sent an email to the product development crew at Walthers. Truth be told I practically begged them to start reproducing the chassis. If you have run the "M" chassis before you know what a blast it is and if you have not, you don't know what you're missing. I can only reiterate Poobah's request for as many emails as possible to be sent to Walthers. Face it, we are all very fast to to shake our heads in disapproval when a chassis manufacturer bites the bullet - now is the time to get behind a company who are considering bringing one back, a mighty fine one at that. If the word on the street is correct, this will only happen as a result of enough requests reaching the company.

All the best,
Michael.

HWP, I've not read anything regarding further activity from the company but that means little. Can only hope they have received enough requests to nudge them to a favourable decision for slotters!

Cheers,
Michael.

You might want to drop RichD a note asking. I think that he was the one that posted this up originally. Or he knows the guy that did, he may have more info on the progress of said petitions..........

I have not heard any more about the Lifelike M chassis. My club is no longer running a class that uses that chassis but I do have plenty of spare parts for the M chassis just in case. As for the Dash cars HOCOC runs those with 16 ohm armatures along with Aurora T-Jets in its T-Jet SS class and with the 14 ohm armatures in a class with JL/AW cars. Last week I got an old T-Jet SS chassis out of storage to see if I could coax a little more speed out of it. The car was a real dog to start with and I did replace a number of parts to bring it up to my current standard. I did skip using CNC top gears to save money, but I lapped the original gears one more time. The car was still slow, I had just gotten some Dash 2 lamination 16 ohm armatures and I took one of those a random and balanced it. The car is now quite fast, it turns my 50 foot MaxTrax in 5.7 seconds. That is with a TransAm type body, with a Fray style body it would be a bit faster. Dan is now working on his second batch of 10,000 cars, so you should not write the Dash cars off as yet.

It's a bit like writing to Santa. He never writes back and you wont know the answer until Christmas morning. Systems normal.

My greatest fear is that some idiot corporate bean counter will become a slot car expert and take a fairly rock solid performer and turn it into a steaming pile.

I see that pickup shoes for the Lifelike M chassis are now difficult to find at a reasonable price. One dealer is now asking for $3.99 a pair. Ouch! I understand that you might find better prices on ebay, if you do buy a bunch.

Since the original post Harden Creek Slotcars has purchased the rights to the Lifelike line of slot cars. Here is a link to the letter announcing that fact; http://www.hcslots.com/lifelikehoracing.html No further word has come about as yet...............
