Does anyone remember AFX's "Dust Rust Must Go" track cleaner? I have a half bottle left from my original racing days as a kid. I remember it working pretty well. Has anyone come up with a recipe to replicate the yellow goop?

If not, what do you guys recommend for keeping the track and rails clean from oil, dust, er... rust (must go).

I wonder if anyone has the formula for what this stuff was. It used to work wonders on my old track. What do you guys recommend using on plastic track these days?

haven't seen that forever...
I use Endust furniture cleaner ...
the one that has no wax in it. ... just cleaner.
it works well for cleaning older bodies too.

to prevent rust on the rails, I use WD-40

some folks use the WD-40 to clean track as well.
I don't care for that on the surface of the track.

I use "bumper back" for automotive bumpers. Apply thinly, wax on .... wax off Danielsahn.

I see guys selling reformulations of the old Aurora Red Racing oil in the little Testors Paint style bottles (I still have some of the original left). But no-one seems to make any mention of this stuff. It was (or at least i remember it being) great! Cleaned track and rails. Didn't leave residue buildup. Non-toxic. No bad smell. Reconditioned tires. AND it doubled as a floor wax and desert topping! It was great drizzled on top of pancakes too! ;)

Why doesn't anyone make this stuff anymore? I always thought it had very similar properties to a natural liquid soap. I still have half a bottle... anyone here a chemist who can reverse engineer the secret formula? Imagine Slot Lodge brand track cleaner!!

I do not remember the AFX cleaner as a kid. But then it never even occurred to any of us to clean our tracks back then.
Lately been using 320 sandpaper on a block, vacuum cleaner, then rubbing alcohol on a towel.
Noticed a couple days ago that HobbyTown restocked some of their AJ's stuff and bought this out of curiousity.
Tiny bottle, smells like turpentine and alcohol. Has a warning label so must be extremely awesome....

Jim, I love this stuff for Tjets. They tried to replicate the original Aurora formula and came close. Doesn't quite have that correct
smell but almost, plus the look and viscosity will take you back 40 years. Check it out on weebuy.

I didn't realize AJ's was still in business! Do they have a website you can order from? Or only through hobby shops & distributors?

Wish I had one of their old Zamboni cars! More for curiosity than actual usefulness.

I've owned AJ's Oscar The Track Cleaner.
I had him running well but he was a bit fussy in the pick-up/foil department.
Certainly useful for maintenance but there had better not be any kind
of real corrosion buildup or he just sits there.
Worm-gear driven and torquie, he pushed a block of ink eraser around while
dragging a bit of felt that wicked cleaning fluid from the body/tank.
It worked best when I dropped a Tjet magnet on the felt, dragging it
around for some pressure to it. :)
Cute and little more than a novelty these days.

I too, got curious about another track cleaner.

I had been on the hunt for this lil beauty
for many years and always found them to be
well out of my price range on the US Ebay.
This Faller track cleaning truck paddled ashore via the German Ebay.
Though used, it is in fantastic condition.
The level of detail in this Faller line is simply amazing. There is even
a driver inside! The cargo is actually a cast metal chunk of some
sort, providing the necessary weight to compress the two stainless
steel foils that scrub the rails clean. I was surprised by it's weight!

I am pleased to say that it works GREAT!

Seems to me, Bill Hall built a pretty cool track cleaner/rail scrubber
utilizing 2 Tjet gear plates and all their monkey-motion and , a sponge hair curler from the TM!
I thought the rig was slick as heck and would (hint, hint, BILL) LOVE to see it again! :D
