I used the course sand paper wheel on the dremel and ground down the back side ever so gently until I could see the shiny insert start to dull and begin to melt. Then I used a sharp #11 blade to make a hole and to clean up the situation. I did this while watching the Cream reunion concert from 2005.
Thanks Slotto. It's not the answer that I might have expected which is exactly why I asked. Lesson filed away for reference.

Cheers,
Michael.

After weeks and weeks of trying to get the paint right, I finally get something I can live with.

I had stripped this car more than four times before this last time because of wrinkling paint.
The paint even wrinkled this last time on the second coat. I let the first coat rest more than five days!
As soon as it came from the can and touched the roof and drivers side front quarter, I saw the peeling.
I let is sit for 2 days after that and just now went at it with the 1000 grit wet. While sanding I could feel the flaw peel away.
I washed and dried the body and looked, no flaw! WOW what a relief. I then went at it with 5000 wet and what you see above is the result.
The paint is Rustoleum enamel. Normally I would not use enamel but I couldn't find a decent purple in the laquer auto paints section of the parts store.

Throughout this process the body had snapped apart in five different places more times than I can count.
I almost crushed it many times because of all of these problems. I kept my cool and set it aside and repeatedly chanted "serenity now, serenity now!"
While drying off the body, she snapped apart one last time. Thank GOD for super glue and baking soda or this car would have been scrapped months ago!

Now it's time for a little assembling...
Stay tuned...

I like it !! ..... White interior ? Furry white FUR interior !

When I was a teenager, mom let me paint my room that shade of purple with white curtains and bed spread.
Fuzzy black light posters, yes including the pirate ship one of course.
Rush..Caress of Steel on vinyl. Stereo with every stray speaker I could find wired to it.
Oh yes, and incense...don't forget the incense in the owl burner.

I chose to paint the seats dark grey and the dash body color. White would have been a better idea.

Bel Air is going to turn out really sharp and worthy of a road scene display or a drive-in diner.
