My Father John Howard Hovendick just past away 2-3-2017 at the age of 79 and now is at rest in Heaven. RIP Dad,

Here are some pictures of his models he built during the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.

My Dad got Glaucoma at the age of 62. He could still see but, it was hard to build models detailed
as he liked to do them. He grew up on a farm and retired back in his hometown. He turned to collecting
farm toys instead of building models later in life.

I know my Dad is smiling right now that his model builds are being posted here for all of you to enjoy and
be inspired by.

Some of my Dads models were stored in boxes and got a little dirty over the years. Will have to carefully clean them.
This Chevelle was lightly dirt covered and sure cleaned up nice. :)

Al,

My hope is to get others that have Models to come to the Slot Lodge and post pictures up here as well.

I'm a slot car builder first but, love model cars as well for inspiration. Do it! I may build
a few like Slotto does from time to time as, my Dad left me some unbuilt models as well.

Randy,

You might say my Dad was a bit more conservative than me....just a bit. He could build
anything & that is what I am doing but, ANYTHING in my world has a little Crazy added in.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo, there was this one box with models in it from the garage
that a Mouse got into & Water caused cardboard to stick to the roofs of some cars. This is
one of those cars. Cleaned up real well with soap & HOT water, a toothbrush, a soft dry towel and a sponge.

The 68 decal on the trunk took a tiny beating but, over all it displays very well I think.

My Dad hand painted his early model bodies & had it down on how to get rid of the brush marks.

Oh boy oh boy, where to start!!?? Gorgeous models Bob. Clearly your dad refined his skills over many years. The 68 is totally off the chart, I can't stop gawking at it. The yellow Yami brings back memories. I built a Yami many years ago in my youth. Ummm, my version was custom decorated with glue finger prints, blobs, drips & paint runs. It's all good fun and part of the curve.

Keep em coming as time permits mate, many thanks.

Cheers,
Michael.

Edit: Me thinks Kev is gonna like the 68 also ;)

oh man, memories. ...
I think that Ford was a three in one (3 in 1) kit that actually could be made into way more variants.
I'm pretty sure I did a street/drag version.
long gone now though.
thanx

I'm glad you guys are digging this as much as I am. Have not seen many of these models myself so,
after opening boxes after boxes of models my jaw dropped from the "Model Time Capsule".

Here is a 60 El Camino that had some dirt on it and the paint didn't handle the scrubbing very well.

Bob,
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. That's a great collection you have inherited. He would be happy I'm sure that you posted pictures of his old builds. I love them all esp. that Chevelle. Great paint!

I remember drilling holes in the front grill of an Orange Willys slot car. Maybe when I was a
small guy an image of this one got imbedded in my brain?

Only a light soapy toothbrush scrub on this one.
