Hi guys, just keeping you all in the loop. PP, it was Java and I made contact with the guy I mentioned in my previous post. He's been amazingly helpful and patient thus far and earlier tonight sent me a sample script to try and use within [FLASH] tags. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get it working the way we'd like. I'm unsure if it was due to the way I tried to use it, or the script itself. I've sent him a screen cap of my result including the way in which I tried to use the script. I offer no promises but I'm very hopeful that with this gents help we may just find a way to get this working.....

Hi guys,

Advanced apologies for tech jargon below, I do try to keep it to a minimum.

The problem with PhotoBucket videos not playing is an odd one that recently came to our attention again. It’s not a problem with the Slot Lodge as such because the videos are supposed to open in a new tab directly from PB. I have the same problem myself on my desktop PC but not on our laptop or our kid’s computer, all running Firefox. When I checked some time ago, they worked on an iPad without incident. I think the problem lies with an add-on, possibly the Shockwave Flash which is considered a threat when not kept updated. Even when running the latest version it is still known to cause problems at times.

Other than trying another browser I’m short on solutions for now because I can’t 100% identify the problem. A quick and dirty workaround that I’ve been using on my desktop box is to just copy/paste the video link/URL into my media player. A media player doesn’t rely on add-ons to play video. Obviously I can’t explain the process for all media players because there are too many. Below are screen caps of the process for three popular media players for Windows systems. If you use a different player, the pictures should give an idea of what to look for in your player.

Note: If your media player won’t play the video there is possibly a problem related to the mp4 video codec or it isn’t installed. In this case I would suggest installing VLC player because it uses its own internal codecs.

Windows Media Player.

Bog standard on all Windows boxes and needs no intro.

Hit “Open URL” in the File menu

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema

MPC-HC is a juiced up version of the little known Media Player Classic that shipped with early versions of Windows. The Windows version was an excellent player but ran out of steam and support as video formats evolved. The crew at MPC-HC picked it up and gave it the attention it deserved. This is my default media player.

Hit “Open File” in the file menu

Paste the video link as seen below.

VideoLan VLC

VLC is a very well known and highly regarded media player. Its feature packed and is the only player I know that comes with its own internal codec set. This means that a current version will likely play anything thrown at it, straight out of the box.

Hit “Open Network Stream” in the file menu

Under the Network tab, past in the video link as shown below.

Hit go!

Any problems, comments or further suggestions please just add them.

All the best,
Michael.
