I hate calling technical support lines! Really, really hate it! My job is extremely technical, so I normally know much, much more that the guy on the other end of the line. Last time I had Sky Broadband problems, the lights on the box were on, but the power light was off. There was obviously some issue with the router, but Oh no; the guy on the other end of the phone line wanted to sell me a new power supply! "So how come the other lights are on, then? Where's the electricity for those coming from - liittle electricity pixies living inside the box that haven't died yet?". "But your power light is off......" Eventually I insisted on speaking to a grown up, and got him to send me a new modem. Worked perfectly ever since. I know they read from scripts, but it begs the question why they can't employ technically competent people instead! |

Apt timing on the thread... I've had one of the most frustrating computer days of my life... I have to submit the information for 10 corporation tax computations (as fun as it sounds) and the software that I need to use takes about a minute to update the screen every time I click anything... Spent about 95% of the day looking at a timer on a screen & only 5% working (although my desk is looking quite tidy!). The information was already all prepared & just needed to be imported, but only got 5 done all day with another fun day of 5 to go tomorrow - As a result, I've needed to spend the whole evening working on the stuff I should have been doing.
