The bad guy
|
Wulfsahl, Helvanic Reich 8 April 2016 - 0800 hrs The Helvanic Navy was no longer allowed to produce submarines of such magnitude, to which Clemens Franzky had honored. But with the aging Fuhrer's condition worsening, his heir Anders Nygaard was now encouraging Helvanic military and paramilitary organisations massive rearmament. Among these developments was the Type 93 u-boat. Much to the chagrin of Hardenburghian, Ceroulian or Federative Navy commands, the Kriegsmarine was quiet about these subs. The Type 93 boats were designed and laid down in late 2013 with the program halted from the Autumn of 2014 to January 2016. Now doubt the three major Naval Powers were eyeing these developments quite closely. With other military developments going on within the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS, the Wismar Pact and the Borjes Agreement were no doubt concerned of another conflict started by the Axis, specifically the Helvanics. The Helvanic Navy were building new cruisers, destroyers and other vessels, mostly submarines. They were especially expanding their attack submarine arm from 160 attack submarines (conventional or nuclear) to over 576 by 2017. Helvanic ships were again putting to sea, but cruiser KMS Angreifer remained in port along with the older Battlecruisers and the other new cruisers. The sun had hardly risen over the horizon and the crew was already aboard the cruiser preparing for departure. Schiffekapitan Lars Medelsen, Commander Gustav Langfeld and Lieutenant Commander Reinhard Feldmann stood on the pier-side observing the sun slowly rise over the Port of Wulfsahl, to their backs was the vast cranes and roofs of the shipyards, to the north was the subtle glints of Dinsmark's capital, one of many modern constructs portraying the country's dramatic transformation. To their left was their new ship aptly named the Aggressor and she was a fearsome sight to behold. The cruiser, by tonnage could've been a battlecruiser along with her various weapons. However, the Kriegsmarine had classified her and her six sister ships cruisers. "I've missed the smell of the ocean" Captain Medelsen spoke, breathing in deep through his nose. He'd been ashore for ten months since the Battle of the North Sea in 2015, recuperating from his injuries. His destroyer, the Grendel, was undergoing repairs in Aslo, Tyrsway and by now was already at sea again. Medelsen had requested that his old XO Langfeld and his third-in-command be transferred to the Aggressor. "Indeed, Lars," stated Langfeld. "The bloody sea will probably take us though." "Jesus Christ, Gustav... Always grumpy as shit," Lieutenant Commander Feldmann replied, cheerfully. "Shut up, Reinhard," the 36 year old Commander retorted, smiling. "Well its time gentlemen, be getting onboard, and head towards the North Sea." Medelsen declared, covering his watch under his officer's tunic. The trio slowly walked towards the gangway, the seagull's screaming above were slowly blotted out by the sounds of industry across the dock beside the vast covered yards. As the came aboard, a Petty Officer and Chief piped them aboard and several Naval Infantrymen brought their G-67s to present arms. A young Marinegrenadier Captain stood silently as he saluted the three senior officers. "Herr Schiffskapitän , willkommen Bord des KMS Angreifer! "Vielen Dank Hauptmann?" "Hauptmann Rudolf Kretschner, Herr Schiffskapitän!" replied the Marine Captain. "Kretschner? By chance are you related to Herbert and Dietrich Kretschner?" asked Medelsen. "Yes sir, I am. They are my older brothers, sir." Medelsen motioned to the young officer to join the trio, "We shall inspect the ship." As the four approached the bridge, a Master at Arms opened the door and called, "Mannschaft! Stillgestanden!" Immediately the bridge went silent as the unison sound of boot heels clicking together were made. "Carry on gentlemen, quicker we get her ready, the quicker we can get underway," Medelsen placed his cap on the table that would seen be covered in charts and navigation maps. Medelsen took a deep breath and produced a white envelope from his inside pocket, opening it up with a letter opener handed to him by a keen seaman. The letter stated. "KMS Aggressor, you are to make towards Pansdrift, Rodarika as part of the South Atlantis Fleet Command, course recommendations are not included; check in every four hours, maintain course at top speed towards Foroyar. Do not engage BA or WP ships. Confirmation of arrival in Pansdrift will be committed by base command. Good luck!" Medelsen nodded to himself. "Easy enough" the XO replied, Medelsen hummed in agreement, folding the white paper up and placing it in his chest pocket. "Is she ready?" Captain Medelsen enquired aloud. "She is, sir!" Lieutenant Commander Feldmann replied, after checking the ship's systems, patting the shoulder of the helm officer. "Very good, please have the deck crew make us loose from port, once that is done, take us out to sea, helm" Medels ordered, as he left the bridge for his quarters. Langfeld began to take out the navigational maps from the table's interior in preparation for the journey across the world to Rodarika. As Medelsen entered his quarters he thought to himself that he was finally back at sea, doing what he was born to do. Placing himself on his bunk, he placed the orders letter on the side, caressing a framed photograph of his wife as he did. Unzipping the bag brought on by the crew, he produced his clothes, his books for reading and his computer tablet for when he was off-duty. He took a deep breath and smiled, this where he truly reached his potential. Lifting himself back up he returned to the command centre, by now the submarine was moving at 10 knots away from the pier side. Wulfsahl was slowly fading away behind them. As Medelsen made his way back to the bridge again, the officers and crew by now were anxious to hear their new orders. "Sailors of the Helvanic Navy, warriors aboard the Aggressor. We set sail, at last, after three months of being absent from our ship and our oceanic home, we return. Our orders are simple, take the Aggressor across the oceans to Rodarika where we will be attached to the SAFK. However if we encounter a hostile Navy we are to demonstrate the Aggressor's capabilities." The crew cheered, as it was time for pay back if need be. "Get us to flank speed if you please, Herr Halvaarsen," Captain Medelsen barked, the helms man lifted his head. "Aye sir," Halvaarsen stated as he pulled the levers on the engine contacts to full speed. The engines powered by a Dinnish Energy Nuclear reactor could be heard whirring. The Aggressor was now heading into the North Atlantis towards Foroyar, slicing the waves with a vengeance. |
