Anyone here a fan of Jeeves and Wooster? I'm on a Jeeves and Wooster kick right now. It's so cute and funny and lighthearted.

I've never seen it, or read the books, but this is the second person I've seen mention the show in a couple of days, after 17 years of never having heard of it
Weird.

lol that mention was probably from me too as I know you on LJ.
It's a story that was originally written starting in 1917, and the last story was written in 1978 or something, but they're set in a sort of timeless between wars kind of time. It's about Bertie Wooster and Jeeves. Bertie is a young man, too comfortably rich for his own good, never worked a day in his life. He's very easy going and affable, but not particularly intelligent. And Jeeves is his valet, who keeps him out of trouble and looks after him. It was made into a tv series in the 90s, and it was done brilliantly. It starred Hugh Laurie (House.) as Bertie and Stephen Fry as Jeeves. I love how though it was written so long ago, and the tv show is almost word for word, it's still really funny to a modern audience, in an innocent, historical, sort of way. It's just so cute.

Oh, I know where "Jeeves" is from, and this is it. Also, both Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie have special non-erotic places in my heart. I love them so. |

I am a massive - and I do mean MASSIVE - fan of Jeeves and Wooster. While the Hugh Laurie & Stephen Fry TV series is impressive enough and they've certainly got the atmosphere spot-on, there just isn't the fierce, diamond wit which is on every page of the books. I've read my way though what I believe to be most of Wodehouse's portfolio and I've yet to be disappointed; every observation is so perfectly worded so as to be light yet hilarious. Often you can see where such writers as Pratchett and Adams got their inspiration from. I also highly recommend the BBC radio adaptions with Michael Hordern and Richard Briers, which do capture the spirit perfectly. I like to listen to them when lying in bed with the lights out. |

Where can one find a *legit* dvd copy of the Fry/Laurie Jeeves & Wooster (preferably without buying online if possible)? |
