So I'm seriously considering learning how to hunt using a bow (a bow because it's far less dangerous and, I would imagine, less expensive than a gun). Hunting is something I enjoy immensely in video games, but i'm not certain how I would take to it in real life, so I would like to find out. I absolutely love anything that puts my skills to the test, especially my hand-eye coordination and physical abilities, so I think it's something that I might do well to get into. I really don't connect with society or other people very well, but i'm in complete harmony with nature. It's my element, and I think this could really be a hobby that might make my life a little more interesting and give me something fresh and new to get excited for.

So, since your dad and brother hunt, I wanted to ask, how expensive it is to hunt exactly? I don't know whether they use a bow or guns (or both) but i'm just looking for a general idea here. I definitely wouldn't get into deer or big game hunting anytime soon, but rather focus on much smaller game at first, like birds and rabbits. I'll also need to find out where I could go to learn how to shoot and get a hunting liscence, and whether or not it's cheaper to hunt for your meat rather than buy it at the store. I think that would just be the coolest thing, to provide my family with meat rather than having to purchase it.

So yeah, would you be able to give me just a basic idea of how expensive hunting would be? I'll see what info I can find myself as well of course. :)

Well it usually expensive for them because they travel a lot to hunt, they buy lots of tree stands, and they bought ATVs. You'll probably need a gun for birds and rabbits, I've never seen dad try to hunt birds with a bow. They use Both guns and bows. Guns require a license to own, and as for where you'll go for a hunting liscence in Canada, I dont know.

I'm watching an awesome series on youtube called Winchester's Deadly Passion, and it follows this girl who travels the world to hunt. I've seen her use a bow for turkeys so I imagine it would be fine for other birds too. As for equiptment cost, I would probably want to do spot-and-stalk hunting, which is exactly as the name suggests, so I wouldn't need to buy stands or blinds or any large equiptment like that. That would probably be the very cheapest way to go that also involves the most skill.

I think there's somewhere in St. Catharines where I could get a hunting lisence and learn to shoot, so i'll definitely look into it. If I can afford it, it might be something cool to start during the summer. ^_^ However, I am a bit worried about the whole skinning process... I think I might not be able to eat the meat from my kills after seeing the live animal beforehand, lol, but perhaps it'll just take a bit of getting used to. I definitely won't just hunt the animal for sport.

If you don't eat it, it'll be wasted. At least hand it on to your mom and let the others eat it lol XD I've helped Nathan skin a deer before and it was actually kinda cool.

Oh for sure. Like I said, I won't hunt simply for sport. The meat would have to be used. My mom already said that she could never do skinning though. XD It would probably be up to me. If not, my step-dad might be able to take care of the preparation after I take care of the hunting part (he took care of a fish that I caught before) so maybe that would be a good trade-off.

Ok, but you should still learn to do it yourself so you don't inconvenience him.
Wanna rp? I have to leave around 6:30 for a store meeting.
