Classic 1970s disaster movie about a fire that breaks out in a state-of-the-art San Francisco high-rise building during the opening ceremony attended by a host of A-list guests. An overworked fire chief and the building's architect must cooperate in the struggle to save lives and subdue panic while a corrupt, cost-cutting contractor tries to evade responsibility for the disaster.

This movie actually has some terrifying moments, an all star cast, and it's very entertaining. The special effects still hold to this day. The only bad thing is it's poster.

Just being a few mins shy of 3 hrs, it's quite a commitment 2 sitting thru it all if ur some1 that isn't the biggest fan of disaster films, much like myself, but I was having me a #FayeDunawayDayâ„¢ & thought I'd finally give it a bite w/ how much Michael had been wanting me 2 watch some of these. I mean, it's impressive, there's no denying that. It's got an all-star, easily recognizable cast & it has the soft & glossy look of a sweeping melodrama from the 1950s & the technical prowess of an action-thriller from the 1980s, so, aesthetic & performance-wise, it hits the nail on the head. I do think it's a bit 2 long 4 its own good @ times, tho. Like, there were moments that could've been shaved off 2 quicken the pace a bit & @ least 2 entire sub-plots that could've been removed from the film entirely w/ how little they add 2 everything (the 1 w/ the receptionist & the 1 w/ the mayor, 2 be precise), but it's still incredibly well put 2gether 4 the most part & easy 2 c how it was 1 of the film's that got the ball rolling on the US's "disaster kick." 1 glaring problem I had w/ this, tho, & what ultimately knocks this down from an 8/10 down 2 a 7/10 is how little it gives a fuck about it's charries. U have the stereotypical staples of "The Man In Charge," "The Man That Fucked Up," "The Children That Won't Die," & then, aside from small side charries like firefighters or security guards or police, absolutely EVERY1 else r just 2 pairs of a couple. U have the main couple, the couple most related 2 "The Man That Fucked Up," the old couple, etc. It's never-ending & a lazy ass attempt 2 get me 2 give a fuck about these bare bones charries that r already desperately doing the best they can 2 hide behind all the big-name actors on display. This carries over in2 my next most prominent problem of the deaths. U know what 2 expect when u get in2 these types of movies. Ppl r gonna die, it's just the nature of how these things go. Becuz u already have cardboard cut-outs that never get any development that ur forced 2 work w/, u'd think they would've tried overcompensating by making the deaths pack a punch. But, ur wrong! Named charries die w/out rhyme or reason (1 of those previously mentioned sub-plots r literally just set up 4 deaths) or w/out any kind of build-up, leaving deaths 2 either be addressed in passing or be shoe-horned in2 the denouement, making this feel like it's more of a "Play-By-Play Of A Firefighter's Duty," ESP. w/ the way the film is prefaced w/ the out-of-place log-line dedicated 2 firefighters during the opening credits, instead of being the fantastic film it had the potential of being. Becuz WHAT is a story w/out developed charries other than poorly strung 2gether pieces of plot? :shushieturner:

I agree with all of your points. I feel like it's the slasher film of disaster films due to the way the deaths are kinda placed. Especially the one with the subplot you were talking about, even if that is one of the better scenes imo.
