Upon her arrival at a prestigious dance academy in Freiburg, Germany, American dancer Suzy Bannion immediately realizes that things aren't as they should be. Witnessing a former student fleeing from the academy & receiving speciously altruistic assistance from the aloof staff members, she must rely on her own wits as a series of gruesome accidents afflict those that come into conflict with the academy. With little to no one to turn to, Suzy must rise to the occasion lest she wishes to fall victim to the sinister forces at work within the academy.

The film that introduced me 2 the giallo sub-genre, it's 1 I will cherish 4 a long time coming due 2 how surreal & nightmarish & oddly beautiful the film itself is. Ppl criticize it 4 being more style over substance, but a disagree since it was intentionally shot 2 be more ethereal & dreamlike, which is y it's become such a terrifying classic. #NotAllFilms need 2 be completely straight-4ward 2 be fantastic, so I think some haters might wanna pump the brakes or just go 2 the "sequels" if they want more of a flourishing story. :mhmok:

I completely agree, there are plenty of giallos that deserve the criticism of style over substance but this isn't one of them.

An amazing assault of colors set to tremendous music from Goblin. So many outstanding sequences in this all uniquely filmed by Argento who by refusing to put his camera where conventional wisdom tells you to has created something so unique that even 40 years later has never been matched. It's simply a one of a kind horror film and I don't understand people who don't love this or at least admire the skill put into this film.
