Returning from his musical studies in Rome, Mark Elliot is distraught to discover that his sister has gone missing. Socializing with the strange residents of her apartment building & delving into the macabre discoveries that resulted in her disappearance, he finds himself thrust into the world of The Three Mothers, a tale of three wicked sisters who've ruled since the beginning of time. In over his head, Mark must put his reservations behind him if he wishes to survive the wrath of the remainder of the sisters & destroy the one pursuing him.

While this film does offer more of a story 2 the "Three Mothers Trilogy," I do find it 2 be a less competent film than its predecessor & somewhat of a disappointment given how the following film turns out when this film had enough promise 2 make me believe there would be more 2 come. It's still a great film, nonetheless, ofc, I just feel as if certain parts could've been more fantastical or just generally handled better. Still would recommend if u love the original like I do.

U might wanna wait on Cat since it's the middle part of the Animal Trilogy, even if they're not connected :imfine:

But, ooh, I can't wait 2 hear ur thoughts on this. I've had a bit of a complicated history w/ it myself, but I love it again now that I've watched so many of Argento's movies in close proximity w/ another, so, that's all that matters. :muffsmirk:

I'll probably end up watching it anyways since I'm only watching 2/3rds of the Three Mothers trilogy cuz I don't care about Mother of Tears. Hopefully I love this :aricry:

The only diff is that u'll have watched these in order :hagwink:

Can't blame u on the other, tho. In all technicality, it isn't as bad as I remembered it 2 be (which I'm gonna say has something 2 do w/ me watching a stream of the longer, uncut recent blue ray of it over the shit-quality, shorter cut I've seen b4), esp. when u consider a lot of OTHER shit that came out in the 2000s. I don't even think the actress that was recast 2 play Lachrymarum is all that bad like I used 2. The main issues w/ it is the fact that all the mystery & style is pmuch nonexistent from the film. U have slight throwbacks 2 Argento's earlier stuff, but it's 2 inconsequential 4 a film that's CARRIED by Asia Argento's performance, & I mean, she does a damn good job w/ what she's given & she's beautiful as hell, so, it's not difficult 2 get invested in her, but her charrie's existence is a direct contrast 2 the protags from Suspiria & this. In both of those, the protags r, 4 lack of a better word, stupid as hell, there r many others that make seemingly smarter/more sensible decisions than them, yet, bloop, here they r, surviving off of chance, whereas Asia's charrie is as Mary Sue as they get w/ divine interventions & no real danger coming 2 her over the course of the plot (despite her being pursued by the police 4 most of it). Diverging from her a bit back 2 the style, tho, I wanna talk about them deaths. LORT. It truly is a cold day in hell when Argento can't give u a stylish murder anymore & I gotta say, watching it uncut 4 the 1st time, the 1st death (which happens 10 mins in, btw) is truly an endurance test of how much ur willing 2 sit thru. I was even eating @ the time & was like, "Do I RLY wanna do this 2 myself?" But, I obvs pressed on & it doesn't get much better w/ special shout-outs 2 the deaths of the lesbians (Argento's always killed his gays, but this was a bit 2 much 4 me 2 shrug off this time) & how he even amped it up further w/ some deaths of children (& I'm talking about where u get 2 c a baby literally be tossed off a bridge & smack the concrete while going down kinda shit), & in theory, it makes sense w/ the "Fall of Rome" plot he was going 4 there, but @ the same time, there's no excuse just becuz torture porn was the thang when he made it. So, ya, @ the end of the day, despite this rant, it's not a 1/2 star, even tho it's definitely the worst of his films I've seen becuz I'm banking on his Dracula being even WORSE.

I'll hold off on Cat since Bird has a blu ray and wait for Flies inevitable release.

That sounds like something I'd give a 1/2 or 1 star to :cackle:

Dracula seriously sounds/looks like a complete piece of shit.

Wise decision :iseeyou:

More likely on the 1 star side, even tho, like I said, I've seen WAY worse :imsleep:

Help, Ik, I'm not tempting fate w/ that 1 :chloecry:

This is a good sequel to Suspiria that does a great job of expanding the story without being full of boring exposition. It's really mysterious at the beginning with several really well shot scenes, but it does sag a bit during the middle leading up to the climax. Still this is a really effective horror film and one of the better Argento films I've seen.

YASSSSSSS, u loving it >>>> :aricry: I TRULY don't get y ppl have given this such a shit rating all the time unless it's just becuz they can't get over it not being the SAME. as Suspiria, which, I mean, I can get, I felt the same way when I 1st saw the entire trilogy back when I was like 12 or 13, but guess who got over it? :casually: 3 things that I feel drags this a bit is how overly death-focused it becomes (it fits in terms of the narrative, but still, some of the deaths could've probz been done away w/ 2 make this tighter), how Kazanian's plot "ends" (even tho it's 1 of the few scenes actually shot in New York, it literally just makes me SNORT every time, esp. the "twist" in the scene), & the unnecessary sub-plot involving the butler & the caretaker (I get it, some1 had 2 set this place on fire, I just feel like they should've been a part of Tenebrarum's coven instead since she OBVS wasn't doing all the New York nonsense on her own, even tho we never get any definitive answer, u can just tell), which is y I've settled on giving it a 9.5/10 over Suspiria's 10/10, but still most definitely 1 of his best that is just BAFFLING how ppl have let it gone on 2 just get roughly 60% across the board. :distraughtswanson:
