IMDB Blurb:
How far would you go for a million dollars? Would you spend the night in a haunted house? When twisted billionaire Stephen Price and his devilish wife, Evelyn, offer six strangers one million dollars each, there is only one rule to the game: they'll have to survive one night in a former mental institution, haunted by the ghosts of the inmates killed there, and an insane doctor who did unspeakable things... At first, everyone is having fun, thinking that the whole thing is a joke. But once the entire house automatically seals itself shut, they realize that this is no joke.

Even tho I'm well aware of the shortcomings on display here, I do feel as if this film deserves more credit where credit is due 4 the areas that it managed 2 exceed @ while upholding the whole toxic love triangle angle the original introduced. There's no doubt that this film got a little 2 involved w/ the supernatural 4 its own good & the "Darkness" literally makes no sense in the context of anything, but it's still a remake I love, despite its messiness. :casually:

This was fairly enjoyable but it really does get way too involved with the supernatural for its own good.

It's even worse in the original draft w/ bitches falling thru the floor & getting caught up in dead bodies & shit like yyyyyy :wah:

Had the ghosty activities just been left 2 the doctor, his staff, & some of the shapeshifting ghosts, I think it would've just been much better overall cuz less was definitely more here :gorl:

:yikes: I'm glad they took that out.

The parts with the doctor/nurses were good, definitely could have lost the darkness and I probably would like it better.

Ya, there were some good things about the original draft, but it ended up much better onscreen :lolxd:

Glad we agree on that cuz Jeffrey Combs as Dr. Vanacutt was the most spot on casting ever & he was barely around, so he made even more of an impact :icant:

Since I just rewatched again  :

The things I hate most about this movie:
A) #TheDarknessā„¢ Like...I won't EVER be able 2 understand the thought process behind that poorly constructed piece of shit (even if I got what they were going 4 w/ the Rorschach imagery of it) when they could've done something much simpler if they wanted 2 attempt going all out in the finale #RoseRedSaysHi
B) Sara. What a God damned Mary Sue, nearly ruining Eddie in the process w/ her convenient ass expositions who only exists 2 serve the same purpose Nora did in the original, even tho Carolyn Craig is MUCH more effective @ being the "damsel in distress."
C) The plot holes. As incredibly effective as the tension among the charries is 2 the point that I'd say its 1 of the strengths this has over the original (Ruth's utter irrelevance as a charrie supports this), the film doesn't do a great job of balancing the tension so that audience is manipulated in2 believing that the charries r the 1s responsible 4 the more blatant horror (ie: the murders) so that the "twist" of the house being more involved past common scare tactics could be a more novel approach 2 the ending.

The things I love most about this movie:
A) The acting. These motherfuckers knew how 2 chew thru scenery like no other that it's such a shame Ali Larter got stuck w/ such a shitty charrie, as she's even able 2 have glimmers of hope here & there. But we ALL know this was all Geoffrey Rush & Famke Janssen's show. The tension is @ its peak when they're going back & forth & even tho idk the opinion of any1 involved w/ the original, I do believe both Vincent Price & Carol Ohmart would've been proud 2 watch these 2 go toe-2-toe w/ their own charries in terms of marital dysfunction.
B) The house. Taking a daring move 2 technically not even make it a house (in the traditional sense) allows this film 2 do what the original's titular entity is sorely lacking in: personality. While they both deliver on eye-catching foreboding visuals (assisted by some fantastic set design), the macabre history of the Vannacutt Institute gives the director every opportunity 2 play w/ subtleties in a way that the more OTT scares can't, giving the audience a good sense of HOW evil this place truly is by not doing much w/ the "house" or ghosts that roam the halls 2 get its point across (until the ending, ofc...).
C) The 90s. It's SHAMELESSLY 90s in a way that u just know it was influenced by Scream's more pop culture-heavy approach 2 horror, but it manages its inspirations FAR better than most horror films that subsequently followed the resurgence in slasher films during the time as it's not afraid 2 make fun of itself (aka: the ENTIRE convo about the house manipulating a computer) & it's not afraid 2 be a little more gruesome than the ever-increasing watered-down horror films had been in the late 90s.

The image itself was bad enough but they had to go and throw their god awful colors on it.
