IMDB Blurb:
In 1960, a group of social outcasts who are bullied by a gang of greasers lead by Henry Bowers are also tormented by an evil demon who can shapeshift into a clown and feed on children's fears and kill them. After defeating the demonic clown as kids, it resurfaces 30 years later and they must finish it off as adults once again.

Copied & pasted (decided 2 post since I've been going nuts in the remake's thread as is) :dontdoit: :
After buying & starting the novel, I opted 1 rewatch since I happen to own it, but if I'm being entirely honest, just w/ only reading 2 chapters, I began 2 realize how honestly fucking ridiculous this adaptation is. Not only is it probably 1 of the worst offenders 2 any of King's adaptations 4 omitting literally EVERY adult element on display in the novel (after the novel already made me uncomfortable more than once w/out me having reached the iconic controversial scene, I can unquestionably attest 2 this), including basically all of the ongoing themes, all of the characterizations r easily distinguishable vestiges 2 their novel counterparts. I understand that there's only so much u can do w/ a 1000+ page novel that has a never-ending backstory that would make any writer shit their pants in intimidation, but it doesn't explain how essentially everything is handled in the wrong way aside from George's sequence & Tim Curry's casting (something that could admittedly be done away w/ since he verges on genuine OTT hilarity in scenes such as "Kiss me fatboy!"). U can @ least somewhat overlook the issues in the 1st 1/2 since the child actors on display r surprisingly more capable of encompassing the heart of the book than the adults r, but it still doesn't excuse how melodramatic & anticlimactic (ANY1 who's seen that ending knows what I'm talking about) the ft. is as a whole, leaving us w/ a ridiculous overabundance of Pennywise (something I'm still not sure of whether there is or isn't since It has only taken on the form of the clown so far) instead of tryna to make us fear 4 the lives of the Losers' Club as a whole & realize how indefinitely screwed they r for being given this opportunity 2 battle a thing incapable of being explained or even seen in it's actual form. Here's 2 hoping the newest adaptation gets it right whenever the fuck they decide 2 gift audiences w/ its presence, but I can already tell u if they keep things the way they r by splitting the 2 parts in2 the previous events (depending on whatever date they decide on re: 2 them updating the story or not) & the present events & leaving Will Poulter as the fucking clown (love the guy as an actor, but he just DOESN'T fit the bill), it's gonna suck ASS.

It is a great miniseries if you take into account it was limited by being on ABC and ignore its uninspired climax.

Oh, I can ignore certain aspects of it. I definitely don't expect that it should follow the novel 2 a T, given how truly wild the novel gets. I just can't fathom the utter drop in quality from the 1st 1/2 2 the 2nd. Like, yes, it had the utterly ICONIC representation of Beverly's return 2 her old home that's easily 1 of the best adapted scenes next 2 Georgie's death, but becuz the 1st 1/2 lacks some of the foundational shit, the 2nd 1/2 just comes off either mostly melodramatic (most of the scenes w/ the Loser's Club) or laughably bad (ie: "Kiss me, fatboy!"). I also understand y they had 2 predominantly use Pennywise in the place of many other fears of the individual charries, becuz some were just 2 much 2 portray on TV, & it's so fortunate that they had Curry 2 portray the motherfucker, cuz he's easily the big stand-out performance of the film. Not so fortunately, it goes hand-in-hand w/ the lack of development since the miniseries itself doesn't ever rly try 2 explain what It actually is. How the miniseries presents things makes it look like It is actually an immortal clown that changes shape 2 fit the fears of its victims, until it reaches the ending where it's like #BitchUThought & it's a ridiculous looking spider, when it's so much more than that. While Ik they couldn't get all the shit onscreen that would be needed 2 explain what It is, I still feel that they could've done a better job & conveying what It is, alongside actually constructing a spider that somewhat remotely resembles a spider 2 amp the fear factor of the end, cuz, even tho I'm not scared of spiders, I can tell u that that shit don't look anything like 1. :borde:

I definitely agree that the first half is much stronger cause there is a lot of creepy shit going on during the kids part. I really don't even remember all that much when they're adults besides for the st-st-st-studder which probably speaks to its dip in quality. I wish they would've just stuck with making It be Pennywise not just cause that spider is such a piece of shit, but since like you said there was no indication to the contrary throughout the whole mini. It definitely could have been better but I still love it though.

Ahhhhh @ "st-st-st-studder" :stonescream: But, ya, that's pmuch my thoughts on it even tho I disagree @ just making It exclusively Pennywise cuz they'd have 2 RLY change-up the ending since It does turn in2 a spider @ the end of the book, so, I can respect them trying 2 remain faithful, in that regard, it just needed the background of some explanation behind what It actually was 4 it all 2 make sense. :smh: Fair enough @ loving it, tho, I used 2 enjoy it more, myself even tho the 2nd 1/2 has always been pretty messy 4 me. I just hope that the remake is a more worthwhile adaptation like it's promising itself 2 be, cuz while I can accept leaving shit out, I can't accept them making a mess of it twice (esp. now that it actually has a damn budget). :flurbily:

"BUDDY THE ELF, WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?"
Tim Curry scares the shit out of me as Pennywise but that's honestly the most I remember about it. I need to rewatch.
