IMDB Blurb:
In 1960, a group of social outcasts who are bullied by a gang of greasers lead by Henry Bowers are also tormented by an evil demon who can shapeshift into a clown and feed on children's fears and kill them. After defeating the demonic clown as kids, it resurfaces 30 years later and they must finish it off as adults once again.

Copied & pasted (decided 2 post since I've been going nuts in the remake's thread as is) :dontdoit: :
After buying & starting the novel, I opted 1 rewatch since I happen to own it, but if I'm being entirely honest, just w/ only reading 2 chapters, I began 2 realize how honestly fucking ridiculous this adaptation is. Not only is it probably 1 of the worst offenders 2 any of King's adaptations 4 omitting literally EVERY adult element on display in the novel (after the novel already made me uncomfortable more than once w/out me having reached the iconic controversial scene, I can unquestionably attest 2 this), including basically all of the ongoing themes, all of the characterizations r easily distinguishable vestiges 2 their novel counterparts. I understand that there's only so much u can do w/ a 1000+ page novel that has a never-ending backstory that would make any writer shit their pants in intimidation, but it doesn't explain how essentially everything is handled in the wrong way aside from George's sequence & Tim Curry's casting (something that could admittedly be done away w/ since he verges on genuine OTT hilarity in scenes such as "Kiss me fatboy!"). U can @ least somewhat overlook the issues in the 1st 1/2 since the child actors on display r surprisingly more capable of encompassing the heart of the book than the adults r, but it still doesn't excuse how melodramatic & anticlimactic (ANY1 who's seen that ending knows what I'm talking about) the ft. is as a whole, leaving us w/ a ridiculous overabundance of Pennywise (something I'm still not sure of whether there is or isn't since It has only taken on the form of the clown so far) instead of tryna to make us fear 4 the lives of the Losers' Club as a whole & realize how indefinitely screwed they r for being given this opportunity 2 battle a thing incapable of being explained or even seen in it's actual form. Here's 2 hoping the newest adaptation gets it right whenever the fuck they decide 2 gift audiences w/ its presence, but I can already tell u if they keep things the way they r by splitting the 2 parts in2 the previous events (depending on whatever date they decide on re: 2 them updating the story or not) & the present events & leaving Will Poulter as the fucking clown (love the guy as an actor, but he just DOESN'T fit the bill), it's gonna suck ASS.

I just don't know if I can - it's hard. I love this movie but the new film is just so much better on nearly every level. And I very much prefer Bill Skarsgard to Tim Curry as Pennywise. So I'm afraid I'll now hate it.

See, Tim Curry is the reason I love this movie so much. I mean, it's Tim Curry.

It is, but Skarsgard is easily the scarier Pennywise. He scared me in a way Tim Curry's never did.

I've heard many people say the clown derails the new film, the savior is the kids and the stand by me esque feel

Can't relate. The book made me hate this, but since it's been 2 yrs since I've read that or watched this last & have altered the way I view things since then, I'mma revisit this before I c the remake 2 get a better grip of where I stand on both whenever I watch that (even tho, lulz, can't even be a full comparison since the sequel is probably gonna be like 3 hrs long, so, it has just as much potential 2 drop the ball if they don't put in enough effort in2 the adult portion). As 4 the comment in the other's thread about Skarsgard topping Curry's performance, I'mma call some bullshit on that, esp. when Tim Curry basically singlehandedly made this miniseries as iconic as it is. That isn't 2 discredit Skarsgard or 2 disregard ur opinion, cuz I've loved him ever since Hemlock Grove, so I can understand if he truly did serve, & he may very well be on the same level as Curry 4 diff reasons if the incongruent marketing/reception is anything 2 pass judgment on (gotta give the remake some props 4 somehow managing 2 impress ppl despite the utterly abysmal marketing), but calling him better than Curry just becuz u prefer him? #IDTS Not when Curry is responsible for Pennywise even being considered a horror icon in the 1st place. #HeDidTHATâ„¢ #DontEver4getIt :letsnot:

You can't compare an R rated can do anything movie with a 90s tv miniseries that did amazing things with the content limitations.

Well let me put it this way. Tim Currys Pennywise never gave me nightmares. Skasgard actually managed to give me one last night. :rip:

That said I'm not discrediting Tim Currys performance. But his take was just not on the same level in my opinion. And it seems like the majority of the audience was saying the same thing. Skarsgard just managed to be fucking terrifying on every level.

It freaked me the fuck out as a child. The weirdness and even the low budget 80sness is what made it scarier than Freddy and Jason in many ways.

I am looking forward to seeing the remake though, so I'll let you know what I think.

I also think "It" was scarier in the remake in general thanks to having a higher budget though. They used its other forms in such terrifying ways too. It wasn't just Pennywise that made It scary as fuck if you feel me.

I also wouldn't say it's a remake. Unlike what happened with Carrie it definitely feels like it's own beast/adaptation of teh book from what I know of it.

This, one hundred times this. The scariest bit was definitely in the shower when Pennywise came out of the floor, or even where he hides between the clothes where he snatches a child, it was definitely freaky
